There's been a lot of cussin' and discussin' on here about the podium interviews and the lack of personality displayed by the riders because of the sponsor plugs. There doesn't appear to be much time for extra discussion because of the restrictions of TV. Maybe this has been suggested or tried already but why couldn't Feld throw a table and 3 chairs up on the stage after the TV and in-house PA interviews and have a post race press conference for the industry and local media like moto gp and some other forms of motorsport? Not trying to take anything away from Guy B's Perspsctive feature but it seems like the rider's would appreciate answering a question one time and being done in 5-10 minutes. All of the media outlets could play it on their site and maybe clips of it would end up on the local news if they cover the race. This probably wouldn't work for the 250s but it would be simple for the 450 guys. Good, bad, or worn out idea?

Or a video editor could have a list of all the riders main sponsors and while they are being interviewed, scroll them across the bottom of the screen.

Great ideas! I would love to see something like that. Another plus would be companies not having to worry about their riders failing to mention them Smile

Fans would win
Sponsors would win
Riders wouldn't have to rehearse (and screw up on television).

This type of press conference was done for many years. The promoters decided to stop doing it because of lack of participation by the media. Noone would ask questions in the press conference. Each individual writer would still go to the riders one by one after the p/c was over. The writers wanted to ask their own questions, and try to get "scoops" for their stories.

Also some media members would skip the p/c altogether to get a jump on the guys who went. They would hit the pits and start interviewing the 4th-10th place riders at their rigs.

Also should be mentioned that they were live on the webcast. Near the end they even tried salvaging it by bringing up 1 rider at a time.

I always enjoyed listening to them.

Now someone please post the epic Yamaboy photoshop pic!

Is there any reason the Feld can’t just tell all of the teams that sponsor plugs will not be allowed in interviews? MotoGP and World Superbike do a really good job with this stuff. They have a quick post race interview by one of the TV race commentators. You never hear any sponsor plugs, other than a "thank you to my team," just the rider’s thoughts on the race. Makes SX look like amateur hour by comparison.

Yes. Common sense. Why do any of the teams have sponsors? For visibility and sponsor mentions when they make it to the podium.

Try doing the same no-sponsor-mentions rule for NASCAR. If they did that, you'd see a major league revolt.

Apparently it's done differently in Europe. But that wouldn't play here.

Will always be a part of the interview. Spoken sponsor names stick with people more than a scoll at the bottom of the screen.

Solution? More TV time and better questions! "What does this mean to/for you?" Really.. can't do any better than that? What do you think the answer will be? "Well Erin, being on the podium again, means that I get to answer your same questions week in and week out."

Time is the only thing that will get better podium interviews. However, I think the only reason they even do the podium interviews (for TV) is to give a rider time to spout his sponsors as it is an obligation to do so to make them happy and rightfully so.

There are plenty of interviews by others that are longer and done better because they have the time to actually talk with the riders after they are done with the TV interviews. Such as GuyB's great stuff.

LOL If they do that then they won't have time for the races just the post race interviews.

There is a BIG difference in NASCAR post-race interviews and the atrocious post-race interviews in SX/MX. Honestly, they shouldn't even be called interviews anymore. They should call them what they are...post race sponsor plugs.

Don't bury your head in the sand, Steve. This is something that really needs to be fixed.

Here is the first random post-race NASCAR interview that I could find...

"Visibility"? You mean all those sponsor logos plastered all over the bike and rider from head to toe that are especially clear when standing still on the podium? Everybody I know from outside the sport, that has seen a a podium speech thinks it sounds ridiculous.
