Yes boys and girls the geniuses are going to open the roof that was designed to open at Glendale SX next week.
Unlike last year when they barely cracked it open and the CLOUD of Chinese fireworks stayed the entire event and we don't need to mention combined with the eye tearing race fuel ⛽️ and exhaust that was also in the mix.
It was a real mess and I had bloodshot eyes for 3 days as I also wear contacts that didn't help.
I called the stadium today and actually talked to a real person and she was well aware of the situation from last year and told me it would be 65% open unless it rains and she can't control the weather--she was very cool.
The Toronto race always came with a free case of carbon monoxide poisoning with cost of admission I remember the few times I went.

I love the call out for "chinese" fireworks hahaha, like USA made fireworks are better for your damn eyes.

I don't know anything about how stadiums work, nor am I a Vital MX doctor or speech analyst like many people...
But with last year being so bad, why couldn't they open the roof once they saw the problem starting or persisting?
Is it some insane, super time consuming procedure to open the roof? Is it not possible to open the roof with the camera / other stuff setup? Was the weather so bad they didn't want to open it even temporarily to let smoke/fumes out? I appreciate it may not be as simple as pushing a button in a modern convertible car.
if you open the stadium up halfway through, you're basically admitting there is/was a problem and that opens you up to lawsuits etc
better to just do nothing and ignore everyone's complaints... apparently

What round was it where a bunch of fans got sick a few years ago? Glendale is my favorite stop of the season, and I'm sure they'll get their first 2" of rain in 4 years next Saturday.
I posted this in another thread. I have been to every single SX ever held in that stadium since they moved it there from the baseball stadium downtown, about 2016?
In years past, they have had the roof slightly open just like they did in 2023 for fume-gate. And there were no issues in any of those previous years.
In one previous year, 2019 I think, there was rain and they had the roof closed completely. And there were no fume issues.
Opening and closing the roof is not a major action. It does not take very long. But I don't think fume-gate was as simple as "they shoulda opened the damn roof further!!" Yeah, that might have been a smart reaction if they had realized there were heavy fumes, but something else was going on last year that made it different than all the previous years. I think last year, because of it being an April race instead of the usual Jan/Feb, it was warmer and they had something calculated wrong in their heat/AC/Ventilation equation. I will say, I nor anyone I am aware of, realized there was an issue until the next day when their eyes and throat were still irritated. I didn't see or hear anyone complaining during the actual event.
Good chance of rain Tuesday-Friday, but clearing out by Saturday and clear the rest of the weekend.
So they should be able to open the roof, Saturday high temp around 60 so not too bad.
PHX has had over 2” of rain in the last 30 days.
and yet … most people didn’t have any issues last year. The race was run late last year in spring and there were other impacts to the air quality that were environmental, but, sure, it was fireworks.
My wife and I have also been to every race at Glendale. We always sit club level and we were not the only ones complaining of issues during the race. On the walk from the stadium back to the Renaissance across the street, in the elevators and hotel lobby, it’s all anyone was talking about.
I have to say, San Diego was a perfect environment. Enough to throw a wrench in the works without it being a slogfest.

I actually smelled the heavy exhaust fumes before I entered the arena going up the stairs to the entrance.
I was like WOW 😳 there are some strong FUMES coming from inside and it got worse as you entered.
Then after the pre-race ceremonies with the Chinese fireworks there was a LARGE cloud plume from them, it never left during the entire event!! 🙄🤬.
I remember after going to the men's restroom and looking in the mirror and my eyes were bloodshot red like I'd been hanging around Cheech and Chong all day....

Minneapolis 2022. Wonder if they'll ever go back... It was really cold that year so I have a feeling someone made a poor decision/was negligent on ventilation that affected thousands people because it certainly wasn't cold inside the stadium.

Yeah, '22 Minneapolis was awful. My eyes were trashed for 2 days after. Ever since my racing days I always make sure to wash my face and eyes right after a racing event because of all the fumes. Mine wasn't as bad as what sounds like some people dealt with.

That pic was how they had it during the daytime schedule. They had it wide open for the entire night show. Fumes didn't seem bad at all to me and I haven't heard of anyone with negative effects.
Phoenix is really having some stadium roof issues lately, even at the other stadium.
