Most groups that I see on Facebook that are populated with "Core" guys have seemed to have beef with Jett going back even before his missteps at the beginning of this season.
To me with the fact that he is a way better outdoor guy would make me think the core fan would be all about Jett because that's kind of a throwback instead of being a Supercross specialist.
For those that say he still hasn't done enough, the guy has won the last 6 championships that he has entered fairly handily. If he never wins another race he has already cemented his position as an all timer. I think he should come in expecting to knock the veterans off their perch.
I happened to stay in the same hotel as the Lawrences in Salt Lake City last year and granted it was a limited amount of time, but I saw him at breakfast and had a couple short convos in the elevator. Jett was always very respectful to everyone around him and most the time in the elevator he would always defer to Hunter and definitely treat him like the big brother.
Your avatar indicates you were around in the 90's. What did you think of McGrath back in the 90's?
Yay, another Jett thread, but here I am like a moth to the light.
me too but in my defense i’m at the NVDMV on Flamingo and still sitting here with the riff raff well after my appointment with no end in site … so i’m desperate enough to look at anything new that pops up 😂
There's a thing that haters gonna do, but I forgot what it was.

A 450 MX championship and one SX race constitutes an all timer? People are over it. They are sick of seeing nothing but Jett everywhere they turn in the sport they love. No sane person actually hates Jett. They are just sick of him.
A fate worse than death, good luck.
The fans of our sport generally like to root for the underdog and for the veterans of the sport. Jett is no longer the underdog and not yet a veteran.
I think it's very similar to when Carmichael came into the premier class and got booed a lot. When Carmichael was lowered down at the US Open in Vegas with a crown and cape there was a lot of booing then. Then in a few years after he was pretty much dominating everyone, there was loud cheers for him.
The hate towards Jett is why there are so many Robots out there. Look at RV now VS when he was racing. He knew what could happen. And of course the people who dislike Jett label anybody as a nut hugger or whatever term, if somebody defends him or says a positive thing.
I think that is in part due to the way the world has become so seemingly single sided. With people assuming that if You do not like thing A than You must be in love with thing B. But in the real world , things are not so black and white. Its just the more vocal people tend to be more passionate with their writing/speech/etc. And that seems to make a lot of people think that everything comes down to a simple love or hate, yes or no. With no middle ground.
This subject has been beat to death.
For the record, I do not hate Jett. I was a fan from the point he crashed chasing Ferrandis years back...kid had/has heart and talent. Though lately, he's harder to "like" because of some of his actions. One example: the Ando incident.
What we hate is the over-exposure, 24/7 in your face coverage.....so we mock it.
We're also fed up with the annoying over-bearing "super-fans"....so we mock them.
Hunter is another story...don't like the guy.
Too much of anything is just that, Too much.
Gen Z kid, foreigner, some proper attitude for a motorcycle racer, very aggressive manager, more popular with girls than any other rider in recent memory.
I agree. I think Jett as a rider is rad, it's just too much exposure. It feels like the Jett Lawrence AMA supercross series at this point.
Jett’s parents had to eat out of garbage cans so Jett and Hunter could eat organic vegetables and steak.
Jett hate? Less donuts, fan fests, merch, useless hype and crying... and more racing.
Now I think you're talking about 2 different things. The real moto crowd that doesn't like Jett, doesn't "hate" him. We do want to see young stars do well...BUT;
1) The media is the one over-talking and shoving this kid in everyone's face on the broadcast. If you don't already notice that without me attaching a video for proof, then you are blind to it and are fan-boying over Jett anyways.
2) The booing "hate" that Jett got last weekend was all his own fault. He's the one who tried to play tough guy and disrespected a former champion over nothing. Anderson was racing and wasn't going to let Jett by, so Jett cried about it to his face and grabbed his helmet. Big mistake. Especially with a veteran of the class who isn't afraid to get physical on track and pays AMA fines annually.
It is the accent...
Not a Jett fan, but he is cool. Young brash kid probably rubs the experienced guys the wrong way a little bit. Full respect for his work and talent. Living his life his way and I have no problem with that. A little too much hype by the promoters probably has a bit to do with it, but Jett can't really control all of that. I did see that his dad had shut down some of the things the promoters wanted to do with Jett during opening ceremonies which was refreshing to see.
Angel Stadium in Anaheim is still McGrath's house (the floating caricature of MC is still proudly flown there)
Next, team lawrence should never have allowed #18 to answer any question about McGrath's 72 wins. IF the young lad would have said: "Why are you asking me, I'm a rookie and nobody will ever beat that record!" . . . he wouldn't be in knee deep in the pile of shit he finds himself in today. The Anderson helmet grab was the straw that broke the camels back.
The fans at A2 have been going there for decades and seen new superstars shine and burn. and the cycle continues
Pit Row
I’m showing my age here a bit but, he reminds me too much of this guy. Can’t stand Jett.
Even Ricky said he regrets doing that stupid "New King of Supercross" entrance with the throne and the crown @ the 2001 US Open Supercross.
An undefeated 450 MX title
Well, the avatar should also tell you that I'm originally a Michigander, so Stanton and Swink were my guys. Coming off the first year at Peak Honda I thought Swink was the next in line and better than McGrath. Probably three quarters away through the 93 season I saw the light and could tell there was a seismic shift in the sport. After seeing MC in the pits bringing a 10 year old girl up to sit on his bike and gave her a crossbar pad I could tell he was a good dude. Unreal talent plus good dude, what's not to like.
Side note: By the time they got to Pontiac in 93 they had Stanton mic'ed up for the parade lap and well before Jeremy clinched Jeff accidentally called him the champ.
Makes no difference. One 450 motocross championship does not make you an all timer. Ask all the guys nobody talks about. Mike Keidrowski, for example. A four time AMA motocross champion that is absolutely a legend, but definitely not an all timer in the eyes of the majority. Also, the only rider to ever win a 125, 250, and 500 motocross championship besides Jeff Ward.
Didn't JMB also win all 3 plus 250SX ?
This, 100%. Both he and his brother are great riders, people are just tired of them being forced onto them so much. I believe if his “camp” would have allowed it to grow organically, there would not be near the backlash, shit talking, hate, or whatever you want to call it.
6 championships and being an undefeated 450 outdoors means he has to be brought up when greats are talked about.
Does that put him on Mt. Rushmore? Let's pump the brakes on that but when you do something that only 2 other people have done you are pretty damn special.
JMB won a 125 world championship. Not in the US, though.
Perhaps it is continued mis-steps seen as demeaning to his competition. Perhaps a maturity thing, but the hate I think you see is everyone getting tired of it.
- Letting Roczen by at SMX and then joking about it as a gift.
- Challenging the King's record
- Grabbing Anderson's helmet, then subsequent text messages about tickets to the Jett fan zone.
- His media crew buffering his direct communication with other riders, as Jason Anderson complained about.
Any one of these would be concerning, but all of them are a pattern and not excusable with a "he's young" argument.
Personally I'm annoyed by all this, but not "hate". I'll reserve that for my future ex-wife.
-Kurt
Ok, I do remember he won the 250SX, 250MX and 500MX in the same year, I thought his 125 was an MX title not a MXGP title.
I agree with a lot of what you say with the over exposure but that is life in 2024.
As far as the Ando incident, I brought it up to Blair on Main Event Moto that I thought both parties did exactly what they were supposed to do. The circle of life says the young bull is supposed to challenge the old bull for dominance and the old bull is supposed to fight off the young bull. I want to see both sides do exactly what they did. Sometimes no one is wrong.
