So Barcia was also penalized apparently…. Adding insult to injury for Thrasher….and…Friese should have been banned for life….All good for Hunter though…..

Credibility with the AMA went out the door years ago. Guys missing entire rhythm section and speeding off track with no consequences, cutting entire corners, etc.

Would be nice to have a press conference with the AMA so they could explain the reasoning for penalties and reason for different rulings without vital members trying to reason them by using their interpretations of the rule book…maybe it could be a weekly feature where the press gets with them each week when the penalty report comes out??
Hunter fan here and I agree this is total bullshit. If the whoops were so "gnarly" that they had to mow them down, then how is a rider able to completely skip them at least twice from what I saw? If they are so gnarly pros can't ride across them, then how is a rider not gaining an advantage by skipping them completely?
Hunter could have easily stopped and re-entered the whoops safely at any point.
Barcia's looked way more accidental and legitimate than both of Hunter's detours.
remember when Musquin went off the track in a mud race, and just hauled ass over a pond and rejoined the track in first, and NOTHING happened.
SMX is the only sport where leaving the defined course rarely hurts the participant.
Okay…So when bambam leaves the track he is behind Cade and Tristan. Then when he re-enters he is ahead of them. So ….2(riders passed) + 1(per rules) =3. 2(his finishing position) +3 = 5th place…and no main…and Benny getting the Beta in the main for the first time in manufacturing history…. Yea…just give 4th to barcia….nobody will notice. Fucking ama….
Yep, number 3 on that list above was completely ignored for Hunter. And I'm not anti-Lawrence at all... But it was egregious.
I disagree, it looks like he only got ahead of one rider, the other was at best even with him if not ahead a wheel.
Yea…it’s sort of funny that some are saying he lost time by referencing live timing…..like live time is A. Always accurate…and B. Updated at the beginning of the whoops and again at the end of the whoops. They show Hunter in the whoops on lap one(when whoops in best condition) and he is struggles more than me after a full bottle of Bacardi. Then watch the pace he rolls by them the 2 times they show it. It’s not even close and those trying to argue it need to either set down the crack pipe and go to the emergency room now….or…leave the HRC rig because parents should not be helicopter parents when their kid is one of the best professional motocross riders in the world.
So …Justin’s mom….you think the tie goes to the rider breaking the rules. If it’s close then you don’t give the one breaking the rules the benefit of the doubt…you give it to the rider following the rules…in this case Benny who lost out on the main. However…nobody on Beta has the influence or names of Troy Lee (or kid) and the GasGas team. Heck…most industry people don’t recognize anybody on team Beta besides the riders…
…and I think you are wrong….it’s 2 imo. Heck…he gained over 2 bikes lengths in reference to Cade… who is right there. Also…the momentum he gained off track helped him pass the other 2 in front of him. Just watch it. That’s more then a 1 rider pass advantage also.

Heck…why not? If you/your team has status or pull then you know the AMA will let it slide or at least under punish you.

Again; Hunter went off track at the whoops twice. First time he went over a tuff block and lost a few seconds. Second time, he lost 9 secs and two positions.
Now please, anyone of you, tell everyone how he gained time and deserved a penalty that matches these offences. I look forward to your rational and logical replies, but instead I expect you’ll just downvote and go on to repeat this bullshite on other threads about a hundred times.
The real penalty was having to watch that disaster of a race.
So I have a bit of a question regarding the Barcia situation:
This penalty report is obviously issued after the race.
The penalty for Barcia, if it would have been a 3 position penalty, would have knocked him out of the main.
When is the decision for these penalty's made? Did Barcia end up getting last gate pick?
Hey…this is what I was talking about^^^. Someone that uses live timing….lol….to come to the conclusion he wants. First time…Hunter went over the tuff block and then proceeded to go faster then he had gone in the whoops previously and to gap Anderson more then just before the whoops…but hey…why believe your eyes. Then he dumped it going in to the whoops(they show the clip in the recap of him picking his bike up right there and 2? riders going by)….gets passed as he picks up his bike…proceeds to exit the track on purpose and again rolls by the whoops at a higher speed then he could go through them. You don’t get to exit the track to make up time from your own mistake. ANYBODY that watches him go through the whoops on lap 1, when they were in the best condition, and compares his pace to when they show him rolling by them can easily see he is going faster bypassing them(and it is the rider’s responsibility to not accelerate/go faster)….thus gaining an advantage over staying on the track. Plain to see….unless you don’t want to….and you don’t want to. When you say he lost 9 seconds and was passed by 2 riders….that’s his fault and irrelevant to then after rolling by the whoops faster then you can ride through them. If I fall and loose 20 seconds then can I cut part of the track and make up some of the time because I made a mistake?? That is the point you are trying to make. That or you are trying to convince us that Hunter rolled by the whoops sooooo slow that he lost 9 seconds and 2 positions….lol.
btw…I don’t care that it was Hunter….I care that the AMA can’t be fair to riders across the board to save their life. The AMA is pathetic.

Racing means race the course provided. Sorry, but even if you don't pass another rider WHILE skipping the whoops (or any entire section) it doesn't mean you aren't gaining an overall advantage. If I decide to skip the whoops, even if I don't pass someone, I just had several seconds to relax and not have to deal with a tough set of obstacles. That is a clear advantage and cheating.
Doesn't surprise me one bit that "Hunta" got a pass....The new normal for this sport
If you go off the track put it neutral get off and push to the safest point of re-entry or get docked a lap or re-enter right where you went off if possible. None of this cruising next to the track bullshit .
Okay…great questions so I looked….and this makes the AMA look even more likes fuckheads. You can watch the broadcast and they are talking about Barcia and they show him AS he picks his gate before Cade and Jason. You can see it. So the penalty is laughably after the fact on paper showing him 4th in the lcq vs 2nd. THAT is why they did the 2 position penalty instead of the correct 3 position that it should have been….because they didn’t give the penalty, despite every fan watching the LCQ saw the passes while off track and even with the long break before the main, until after the whole race. I’m sure barcia is heart broken that history will show a 4th in the LCQ vs a 2nd. If I were Benny and Beta I would be fucking pissed. Nicely done ama…. 🤮

When I watched it was like hey wait a minute. Thinking about if he would have tried to re-enter and got hung would it have been a hazard to traffic entering them?
