The start people are only blaming Friese because it’s Friese. Jett does that exact thing nobody cares. The one on Deano was bad though and deserves a penalty.
Just tells me about the character of that person. If they'll blindly defend the actions of a dude who's an outright danger to the other riders, they're probably a POS just like Vince. There's an entire career's worth of evidence. Its not just Saturday nights race and the start on the heat. Argue over that start all you want. You're missing the point
look at where they are in the corner vs where Vince initiated the move, it was 3/4 down the start straight. he's a clown
RV says it best. "We wouldn't be on the outside."
The problem with Friese is frankly the same problem I had on a motocross track. Only good/great in a few areas but not a complete package, which is dangerous when everyone else around you is closer to a complete package.
Here we have Friese, who barely made the main and is starting on the way outside, getting the holeshot and does what anyone would do if they were on the outside and got the holeshot. You would control the corner and not give a rats ass about anything behind you. That is racing.
The problem with Friese is he's just not good everywhere and the inconsistency and unpredictability coupled with mental processing challenges and you get The Friese Effect. There's a rhythm and a flow in professional motocross and Friese interupts that flow with his inconsistent talent.

That is a pretty interesting take and I hadn't thought about that angle, at least as clearly or directly, as I am now you've spelled it out 👍
Obviously he's an incredible starter, much like Mike Alessi was, and his riding is clearly way ahead of 99% of the riding world, but it's a given we're talking compared to other elite talents.
All the arguing aside…
Why is it that we see the same guy involved in the majority of “on track” incidents in the 450 class?
Man....I sure wish I had Friese "inconsistent talent", everyone here is a lying to themselves if you don't say otherwise. Who among us wouldn't want the ability to make an SX main event.
It's a good take by Villo...
Bottom line, Vince makes things interesting....good and bad.
Wrong. Racing incident and actually the domino effect of Hunter running into the back of Vince is actually what caused the other riders to crash. Even JT agrees the start issue was a racing incident. If it was anyone else, it would just be a first turn crash.
The Deano situation was clearly blatant and VF needs a legit beat down for shit like that.
It looked to me like Friese was not far enough in front of the guys on the inside to move that far over to the right.
I hope his season is over from his crash so he doesn't end anyone else's season or career.
they just hate vince
I think he’s a dangerous rider, I don’t like him and his antics at all, but in this one case, at the start of the A1 heat, I think he was in his rights to cut across the way he did. I also think it was a stupid, selfish and dangerous move that reeked of desperation. But since he was clearly ahead at that point, he owned the track and could go where he wanted.
I don’t hate the guy, but I don’t like the way he races. I think a race season would have fewer injuries and better racing without him. The only thing he brings to the table is drama, but good CLEAN racing has plenty of entertainment to offer. JMO..
Hope all is good with you!
How come all the other times riders have had that same jump, they didnt cut so hard in and cause this? He lacks judgement or just doesn’t care.
he should control it of course but not turn right so abruptly.
the dean thing is just dumb. Totally cheap and no race craft. Dean should be upset.
when someone shows you who they are. Believe them.
Here's the only way I think anyone can get across to Vince Friese
Anyone remember how that worked out in the end...?
How far ahead do you have to be to "own the track"?
Still under power...
Vince and Hunter start braking, Vince starts leaning over...
Vince leans over more and starts squeezing Hunter...
Hunter has nowhere to go...
Contact!
Well…RC laughed at RV because he thought it was an overly aggressive cut in. Also…Friese did NOT get the holeshot. He was 2nd. He would have had the holeshot had he stayed a little wider and avoided the contact that slowed him down. So…even though he had a wheel and could cut everyone off with his short sighted overly aggressive move, that Hunter should have seen coming, it cost him a holeshot and the holeshot $. Then his cheap and dumb ass takeout of Dean cost him the race and a separated shoulder. As of now Vince has the exact same points as I do in the SX standings because of that. Zero. I guarantee they spent more on parts and tires from running the main then the $300 more that they made then the rider taking 5th in the LCQ that didn’t make the main. …and even more riders and fans hate him. Good job Vincey.
Pit Row
Those freeze frames would total maybe 1.5 seconds at best, but it does amplify how hard Friese dove for the white paint on the inside, rather than potentially going in at a more traditional mid turn and taking a mid to late apex, when riders get a good start from the far outside.
The second to last shot is the one that has me annoyed. Probably the angle but Vince looks like he’s damn near aimed for the tough blocks he’s cutting over so hard.
Watch the video, you can see when they start braking by the weight transfer from rear to front, Vince started leaning in as soon as he started braking, he was fully committed, from the second frame I posted, Hunter had no options.
Because that is the angle be needed to box off Hunter.
Another angle
Vince and Hunter start braking, Ken still under power...
Kenny starts braking...
Hunter has no options from here...
Nice shot of the finish line!
Nobody's going up the inside of Vince!
Great photos!
“Owning” the track is whenever you’re ahead, VF was getting close to a full bike length ahead at one point. What I want to make clear is that while I think VF owned the track at that point, I also think that the way he dove to the inside was a shit race move, it was stupid, dangerous and turned out bad for everyone nearby. There’s still an obligation to be a decent human, even if you’re leading a race.
If he wasn’t an idiot at the start, VF could have had the holeshot, if he wasn’t still an idiot a little later he could have had a top 10 (top 5?) finish. But he proved to all of us, twice, that he’s just an idiot.
He was never a full bike length ahead at any point, it was a shit move, but a racing incident.
His move on Dean Wilson has been done by many other pro racers in supercross and motocross, it's an accepted part of racing, if it wasn't accepted the AMA and FIM would be penalizing and banning racers.
What I don't like is pro racing affects amateur riders behavior, amateur riders doing this during amateur races or on practice tracks cannot be accepted.
Your third pic is interesting in that is highlights how much he was changing direction compared to the entire rest of the field who are still going straight and in unison.
The Hunter incident was just ambitious/desperate, The Wilson one was aggressive no need to take him all the way to bails given how much space that corner had.
The front view shows it better...
Vince starts coming over
Hunter reacts...
contact...
It won't change, at least have some respect for the rider you take out...
