Your first racing trophy

First race, first place in 125 amateur class,1976. Thirteen years old, but I guess it took me eight years to earn it. Started riding at five years old. Already knew how to ride pretty good before I ever lined up.

early 70's at Ascot was my first ever race. i was on a Yamaha 125 enduro with the lights taken off (what a pile) I got 3rd O/A my first race and a little trophy in the 125 beginner class. not sure what it meant to me because SoCal was pretty wide open back then and I could go home after school ever day of the week and jump on my bike and ride in some open field for hours. What did come of my first race was that my dad caught an interest in motocross and a few months later he took me down to the Suzuki shop and bought me a brand new TM125 (sweet!!) We started racing every weekend with that bike

I got a 3rd place trophy in 1972 in my second race.The race was put on by our local club the LOOSE LINKS .I was 14 and raced the 250 class.There were only 4 classes mini,125,250, and open.No A,B,or C .We ran 3 20 minute motos.The track was laid out by club members in the dunes which was covered with grass,but would get very whooped out.Our local news paper did a full page report with pictures,My little brother won the mini class,my other brother and my dad raced the open class, and my mother was one of the score keepers,and grandma and grampa were there to watch.This was the begining of almost 40 years of moto for our family.I have been at the track with a total of 5 generations of family members.I still have the trophy and the newspaper article.Because of moto my old man was one of my best friends thru out my life.

First race ever. 15 or 16 years old, around 1968. Place was just an open area by what I think is Perris Raceway, which was not a motocross track then.
Hi-Jinx Family Motocross Club held it. I crossed the finish in the 250 class, on my DT1, in second and they handed me a cold Coors beer.
I never made it to the trophy presentation which was held weeks later and far from where I lived, so I found the crumpled beer can, straightened it a bit and glued it to a piece of wood...my first trophy. I wish I still had it , but lost it in a move sometime.

May 23rd, 1982. 5th Place in a mud race. There was a young girl from the town next to me who I was introduced to between motos. I didn't think much of it at the time. I loved the trophy because it was the only one I ever got that had the date of the race inscribed on it. I married the young girI in 1986.

Won my first race and went on to a string of Wins.Absolutely hooked me and I still cant get it out of my system.

My first trophy was for 4th place in a hare scrambles in the 250 class at Buckeye Motocross Park in NE Ohio back in 1974.

I couldn't believe it because I personally thought I rode like shit.

Won my first race..100cc class..Rhinelander, WI. 1974 One of about 8 or 9 "special" trophies I bothered to keep. Wish I had known that "The Pipe" was building his trophy jump at his track, I could have driven over and contributed a bunch to the bottom of the pile!

1976 CMC Carlsbad 125 Junior 2nd place

Took 3 months of racing, I didnt think Id ever get one.

DeAnza Cycle Park 1987, 2nd place, 80cc Beg....next month I took 1st place ... I've been kicking ass and takin names ever since...

September 1979, Middleboro, Ma. on a RM 50. I won, but only because it was crazy muddy and I was the only won that finished.

1979, was racing 80cc novice at Saddleback, went to Indian dunes for my first CRC race and they let me race begginer and i won, ig got a finishing trophy before that at the Santa Clause Gran Prix at Escape country before that though.

I was in third grade, it was my third race, and I got third place . It was at the Santa Clara P.A.L. track sometime in the 70's. Im too old to remember what year but I still remember that day.

1999, I was about 14 or 15, probably about my 5th or 6th race. It was a 5th overall, 125 Beginner. It was a cool day.

2nd place.... 3rd race... 125 begginer on 1987 CR125 at Canyon Raceway Phoenix AZ.... Rememebr it like it was yesterday!!!!


Oh and I still have the trophy in my office!!!!

I started racing in Aug of 1977 and it took me until June of 1978 to get my first trophy in the open novice class at Southwick,I think i still have it somewhere here,I got a bunch more the next few races then I made amateur and it got hard again,It took me almost a year before i got a trophy in the amateur class.

June 1978, first ever race, 250 Junior, first place. Still have the trophy, wish I still had the 78' CR250 Honda!

4th place, 1972 100 junior, something around my 3rd race, I think. (My avatar is from the race). Kept me coming back. Took me about another 2-3 races to get a 2-1 for first win. And I still have all of my trophies except for couple that GFs made off with.

My first race at Friday night Indian Dunes. I had a 400 Husky Cross and was an off-road guy and all the MX guys at school were givin me a hard time. I went to the Dunes with them and got 3rd. in 500 Beginner. It was great!

First race at OCIR in 1974 - 3rd place 125 beginner and still have that puppy.

Won my first ever race, September 1979 - 80cc class, riding a YZ80F.
Not the 4 stroke kind either.

Raced for a year before I got one, took a bike change to get one, the 1991 YZ125 was miles better than the 1989 YZ125 because I went from getting mid pack to getting top 3 against the same guys overnight.

August 1976, Albuquerque NM. It was my second race in the 83 cc novice class, I got a 2nd. At that point, I was hooked. My first race was a disaster, I crash so many time that I lost count. I was so excited/nervous I just couldn't stay off the ground. I was racing a 1975 XR75, a few months later I got a '77 YZ80D. That YZ80 rocked!
