It’s really crazy to think about. Didn’t confirm but rotomoto said 18 dudes are on factory or factory “equivalent” teams for A1. You would expect all those guys to make mains.
Then you add DF14 that makes 19. Deano 20, hill 21.
Thats not counting moranz, starling, harlen, Noran. Cartwright, masterpool for the last spot.
Jett might be a notch above the field but I don’t see how we can’t say this isnt the deepest field 1-22 ever.
Because Jett. That’s why.
I posted it in a different thread, but the field is deep.

It's definitely strong for the start and injuries or lack of them will be the difference. I sure hope we don't have any fallout before A1 and it stays that way.
That list is old racer heavy. Strong resumes’ of riders at the end of their careers turning laps to cash checks. There are 4 fast riders, same as always.

Name your 4 please
Barcia’s the oldest dude on that list, followed by Eli. You really think those 2 are ‘turning laps to cash checks?’ Pretty goofy take.
Jett, Webb, Tomac, and Sexton. Who else is going to win a Main? Ferrandis is probably my favorite rider of the last 20 years so I hope I’m wrong about him. It’s the same every year if you’ve been watching the sport for a while. “Deepest field ever…” until gates start dropping.
So everyone but those 4 dudes is only out there to cash checks? You’re not making your goofy take any better you know.
Jett, Hunter, Sexton, Tomac.
The rest aren’t out there to collect checks. I think what he means is there’s a lot of veterans that are not gonna be up to speed and probably won’t make it.
They’re all out there to cash checks so my take isn’t really valid and is goofy. I believe the field isn’t that deep in speed for 2024. There are a lot of experienced riders with strong resumes’ who are at the end of their careers and no longer as fast as they used to be on a Supercross track. Tomac and Webb are exceptions. I stand by the rest.
Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, Cooper Webb, Ken Roczen, and Justin Barcia all won main events this year.
Four of those guys are some of the oldest in the class.
Sexton 24
Webb 28
Tomac 31
Plessinger 27 turns 28 January 25.
Cianciarulo 27
Ferrandis 29
Wilson 31
Jett 20
Bogle 30 turns 31 March 23.
Anderson 30 turns 31 February 17.
Stewart 31
Craig 32
Cooper 26
Nichols 29 turns 30 March 22.
Hill 28 turns 29 May 7.
Barcia 31 turns 32 March 25.
Roczen 29 turns 30 April 29.
Hunter 24
The 450 class isn't exactly stacked with young talent.
Oldest 450 field ever? 3 guys under 25 and only one under 24?
Maybe I missed something about Bogle... but will he ride the AMA SX championship in 2024?
🤔
1985 was the deepest field of potential winners and champs. Ward, Glover, Lechien, Rick Johnson, Johny Omara, Mark Barnett, David Bailey, Keith Bowen, Bob Hannah, Scott Burnworth, Goat Breker. Eight different winners in an eleven race series, the championship could have gone a lot of different ways going into the final race. Nobody won more than two races that year, you literally never knew who would win. Last year was 17(?) races with 5 winners, and realistically you could pick between three riders every race who could win? Logically it really doesn't look like there could be more than five winners this year either, maybe as few as three. Sexton Anderson Ferrandis and Webb may have trouble with new bikes, Tomac coming back from injury, and a lot of those riders on this year's current list are never going to be close to winning. All are great riders, maybe former champs, but competing for wins or podiums this year....I don't know.
A deep field isn't only about winning races. This thread is about making mains.
Multiple guys like Cartwright and Harlan made all but 3-4 mains last year. There's not enough spots on the main gate for them this year. LCQs might be some of the best racing in 450 this season
Thread title should read: "Some used to be bad Dudes......"
Interesting......I usually skip LCQ's in the highlights recap.
LCQ with Chiz, Nichols, Starling, Bloss, Noren, Cartwright, Clason, Josh Hill, Wilson, Mcelrath, Harlan, Moranz. 12 guys that are used to making the main pretty much every week. Only 4 can make it through.
Pit Row
Great point. If one of the mid tier riders ends up in the LCQ they will have a tougher time getting to the main than last year too.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe in the 80s.
Is Josh Hill racing?
Roczen is still only 29, he feels like he’s been around forever!
He was listed under MDK in the Vital Silly Season Feature a while back, but I just took a quick look and MDK is no longer listed. His name is also not listed.
If he doesn't line up, there are still 17 riders listed that should be taking 17 of those 22 gates.
Edit: Typo
No. Justin said Josh is taking time away, but he might race a few.
Thanks Mav, I thought I had read that somewhere hence me asking to make sure I wasn't going senile.
Bogle will race the 2024 UK Arenacross championship with Starkvarg.
He did turn pro at 15.
I saw that, but I'm not sure if that series conflicts with the AMA SX series.
The 1999 lineup wasn't bad either. Included the Goat, the King, and 3 premier class world champs....among a lot of other bad guys.

There were five winners this year (Tomac, Sexton, Webb, Roczen, and Barcia).
Plessinger had a win up until he made a silly mistake.
Anderson can win races.
Add Jett and you're now up to eight riders that could potentially win a main event in 2024.
Cianciarulo, Stewart, and Ferrandis are potential main event winners.
You're now up to eleven riders that can/could win a main event.
There are twenty-two gates and you can make a legitimate case that half the field could win a main event. It doesn't mean it's going to happen, and statistics proves that, but the field is deep.
Post a reply to: Some bad Dudes will not make the mains in 450 this year
