Neither side will accomplish what they want. Ukraine wont be demilitarised and turned into a puppet and Russia won't be removed from the territory its taken.
Neither side has the power or technology to break the dead lock. We are looking at a 1916 situation where both sides make minimal gains for horrendous casualties with the defenders having the advantage.
Russia has patience and a large population. That’s all it needs.

Ukraine spent the entire summer fighting very hard and broke through the first Russian defensive line in a single place, I just don't see them having the strength to remove the Russian army.
Both sides have been claiming the other is about to collapse and is running out of men since this started and it seems neither is about to collapse or run out of men. I suspect that this war is going to last a very long time yet.
When the bulk of fresh replacements are 40- 50 year olds, it cant be very confidence inspiring for Ukraine. The Russians have been planning their next 2-3 years of mobilization’s. Still burning up ethnic conscripts. They have close to 10 times the man power to burn.
