I would be a horrible live commentator and my English is nowhere good enough to be on TV. I’m only good enough to entertain a few of you on Pulp once in a while because I can say what most people in the industry can’t. That’s about it.
I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit. Also, I’m glad to see you posting here.
I would imagine that comment is coming from someone built like a Tweenkie.
Last years resolution was to ride 1,000 miles in the dirt on my emtb (yes I know the analog guys will laugh) and dump 20 lbs. As of last Friday I'm at 1,065 miles and 18 lbs lighter (220 to 202) This year I'm going for 1,200 miles and 15 lbs. And the usual drink more water, eat healthier etc.

Who knows the money is pretty bad out here and if my checks keep being 974.00 short that doesn’t help. Must b the new metric math 3,800 mi turns into 2,288 paid mi. I would like to try a couple pro ams but that would throw me out of the 125 class. I need neck, back injections forgot shoulder I can’t lift that arm hardly. To score a point or 10 at 57 yrs old. Then Profeshenal is legit. Haha my phone automatically spells it.
- buy another full size dirt bike
- keep up with my new jogging & exercise routine
-quit booze forever
-stop obsessing about keeping my cars and bikes spotless all the time
-rest more (learn to chill once in a while)
One of the reasons for this post was to see other people’s plans were. Maybe learn something I haven’t thought about or maybe do something different.
One thing I left off my list was to get my garage back in order. One side is gun stuff and reloading. The other dirt bike stuff. At one time I had it in pretty good shape. Now it’s like a bomb went off. When I only had a YZF and a jug of Rotella it looked pretty good. Now with a two Hondas and a 2 stroke Beta I’m covered up with all different types of oil and crap. Boxes with take off parts, springs and handlebars on work benches. Restoring a 97 2 door Tahoe hasn’t helped either.
My wife said next time I leave for a few days to go ride, hunt, fish etc. She is going to clean up and organize for me. Which means I’ll never find anything. So now ya know the reason I haven’t take off to fish a Bass Tournament in a while!!
To stop being such a puss about hitting jumps. And everytime I do jump something I spent weeks overthinking I say, "Damn that was so easy!". Made it over all the jumps on the Fox/Pala main two weeks ago without incident, so that's a step in the right direction. I swear it hurts more to case and smash into jumps instead of jumping them.
Now that's a resolution worth keeping. If you have the room and once you get the servicing side up and running, you might consider doing consignment/brokering sales. Be nice to purchase a bike that someone has gone through it top to bottom. Wishing you success, and that you lived closer.
Picked one up in June. Just coming up on 1,000 miles. These things are a blast!
For 2024 I want to ride and race more “Baja”.
The fact that you say what most can't is why you would make a great addition to the booth. It would spice things up rather than the same old weekly rinse/repeat. Your insight shows in your posts here on Vital. Your english is fine.
I'm reminded of the time years back when Dennis Miller was in the booth for NFL games. Like him or not, he was a riot and loosened things up.
Get to 20 miles a week running and 2 hours a week on the bike. Lots of other things to accomplish but life will pull me into those. Gotta make myself run and ride.
Coming back from a bad injury, need to get fitness back . Starting from zero at this point. Have barely moved since August.
Spay painting my first custom helmet,
Thank you, that’s a great idea to keep in the back pocket once I’m able to expand and get some room. Appreciate the good words.
Start riding again. Stopped when I was 21 when we had our first kiddo. Was about to start again in 2020 then COVID happened, wife and I both though our jobs would be safe and both got laid off within 6 months of each other, had to sell our house due to issues not seen prior to purchase/renovation being started.
We’ve made up for it now 3 years later. Our business will be kicking of Jan 1 so plenty of time to lose some pounds and actually have a career that will allow me the time to ride. Here’s to everyone achieving whatever their goals are!
Yell at my kid less at the races. (By racing my own self .)
Declutter.
Keep not drinking.
Work on the home track.
Make the kid a sick edit .
Give more support to my daughters gymnastics .
Be nicer to my wife.
Before you be nice to your wife you may take a page out of the professional bass fisherman, Bill Dances handbook. If you wife is pissed off. Go buy a new Tractor, your wife will still be pissed but you will have a new tractor.
"More Baja" Is my everyday resolution. I should add to MAKE time for the more important things in life like.... more Baja to my resolution list. I imagine this happens to a lot of guys but I swear the older I get the harder it is to get time to do the things I really want to do. Life just kind of takes over and it seems like plans get made for weeks and months ahead of time. Don't get me wrong I have a great life and am blessed with lots of family and friends but I do miss those 2 week plus trips into Baja with zero plans besides whatever the day brings. For years I spent every spare moment I could down there living in a tent and some crappy car or truck and fishing or diving for food. Always worried that if the truck or car broke I didn't have the cheese to fix it. I've come home from Baja with an eighth tank of gas and 17 dollars left in my pocket. Now I have a camper and small enclosed trailer completely dialed in for extended trips down there, and some dinero to spend. But I can never seem to get the TIME to disappear from my responsibilities for 2 weeks or more. Time management for more life experiences past the day to day grind needs to be on my resolution list too. Free dinner from around 1980
Pit Row
Need to make time for more of this, albeit in the lance with a shower, shitter, microwave, thermostat and therapeutic mattress lol
Plan to do more racing, did 5 sprint enduro/harescramble races this year and had a ton of fun. There is so many series going within 2 hours of me that im going to hop around and do the rounds that look fun.
My wife had the same plans, she tried a few sprint enduros this year and ended up getting the championship only racing half the rounds, her new goal is rehabbing her ACL after she gets surgery next week.
Right every open to the public track in Texas that I haven’t road yet.
Cardio - gotta make a hard push in my mid 50’s… ain’t getting any younger 😂
That’s a good idea I,m in my 50,s too. I don’t believe in training to ride a bike. But I don’t want to get tired & watch 125 riders pull away. Not saying I can beat a top 5 kid from the mini o,s . Wi. Will hv a real fast 125 class this yr. I think running a steep hill is the fastest way . It gets it done quick if you don’t hv a lot of time.
That’s the main problem isn’t it, when you’re younger you have loads of time but often not a lot of money, as life goes on (hopefully) you do better financially but never seem to have the time to do the things you want to with the money. It’s one of life’s strange paradox’s 😄
Mine are simple. My health. Been struggling with chronic back pain for a number of years now and I plan to step up my stretching routing next and add in gym time including more swimming. It all helps.
The other swerve is more serious. I have malignant melanoma. A shit type of skin cancer. My first surgery was a little over a month ago. Plastic surgeon removed a 1 inch square block out of my right cheek bellow my eye.
I have 5 more surgeries to get the rest of it off me. Thankfully they are all smaller than the first one and it has not spread to any vitals.
More time with my family.
Garage clean out and reorganize...I've been procrastinating for a year now.
Win the damn lotto...
Aix-En-Provence is a lovely place, stayed a night there on my honeymoon trip the the French 250 GP at Arbis in 1991.
And rescaling is on my agenda too, bigger workshop and smaller house..
Enjoy racing with my son for another year, we did a full season of EVO racing this season, and i picked up an RM500 to race in pre 85, and a race in Belgium.
At 58, 'next season' isnt always guaranteed, but i will be ready, 13 race weekends and a bunch of commentary stuff lined up.
As race time for us is family time too, its a win-win.
After deciding to go back to college online, I've found myself in a position where I can't afford to race too much in '24 but should have a ton of time to train for when I do have time so hoping to make it count:
Race 6-8 times this summer (maybe a couple in the fall if my course load is manageable)
Top 5 B at the Florence 100, a larger regional race in Kansas for those unfamiliar, I've got 8th the past 2 years.
No DNF's all season
Hopefully, time and resources willing, do either an amateur day at a national or another GNCC. If I'm really lucky, both.
Because for some people that's the start they need.
My goals are to enjoy riding twice a week, maybe a race or two, less side business this year to enjoy more of my summer.
