I put my name on a 24 yz250F 4 months ago. One finally hit my local dealership in Central, Illinois. They did get an anniversary one in today. They won't be getting anymore until January-February.
When he called me telling me I can come get I went straight to the dealership. I was dam near speechless when they rolled it out. It is so nice...I've never been lucky enough to own ANY motorized vehicle brand new until now.
My last bike was a 2003 YZ250F. I sold it years ago. I haven't ridden in 10 years. I am looking forward to getting back into it.
What tips/suggestions do you guys have to keep this bike 'new' as possible looking? I will wash it before putting it up each time.
As far as mods which would you do first?
I'm leaning towards a full FMF exhaust system. Maybe an aftermarket CPU from twisted development.
Which maps do you guys suggest downloading? Do I get all the aftermarket maps from the app itself?
Any information would be appreciated. This tech stuff is all brand new to me.
Use shout stain remover as your bike cleaner. If you haven’t rode in ten years I would ride the bike stock for awhile and determine if you want mods or not. It’s going to be light years better than your old Yamaha.
Thank you for the information!
I had another buddy tell me these new 250f's are equivalent to what a stock 450F would have been back when I quit riding in 2012ish. If that's the case, she will definitely be stock for a while. Up until 2012 I had been riding four-wheelers/dirt bikes since I was 10 years old.
Grease the bearings bikes don't come shipped with proper grease in the bearings. They ship with assembly lube to just keep them from rusting and shipping restrictions.
Check the air filter is oiled. Check tire pressures adjust levers adjust bar position
Skip engine mods until you get your skills etc back for awhile.
Acceptable mods would be poss grips bars tires. Chain n sprockets.
Which grease do you use for your bearings?
I'll check the other items. I picked up some oil and a new filter to change once I break it in.
A hour after that I'll change the oil/filter again. They are saying the first 3 hours it needs changed every hour.

Enjoy man. Rode that bike a few months ago and it was amazing. They released some GYTR parts now too for it and that Akrapovic in that line looks real nice. Would be my choice over a FMF
1. Congratulations! On the new bike and for being back in general.
2. Greasing everything when clean is always a good idea. Read your manual, learn the common torque settings, go over her proper.
3. Download the Yamaha Power Tuner app and understand how to use it: This is essential before throwing on a pipe or anything else. There are also good setup/suspension tips in there too now for trackside tuning.
4. 7447 Scotchbrite when washing on the aluminum frame and swingarm (assuming you don’t seal it up with graphics before riding/dragging boots all over it).
5. Read the media reviews and use some of their map suggestions to expedite the process. Keefer usually has some of the best Yamaha maps, and the DR article has a Stevie/Tokarski map that works quite well. Enjoy!

I had a 23 YZ 450 and the air filter wasn't sealing tight enough so i rigged up something to pull the cage down tighter. Don't know if that was addressed on the 24 250 but if not the twin Air Power Flow kit would be a good investment. Laying the bike on the side when changing the air filter so you don't drop any dirt in not a bad idea as well.
Welcome to the Blu Cru! I can tell your excitement, congrats!
For mods, man the bike is insane stock, ride it and break it for a few hours. Exhaust because it was very raspy, maybe some ear plugs. Mapping with the app and do so much.

Enjoy the new ride!
Put gas in it and ride it. It is already 10,000 times better than your last bike. Not sure why you need an aftermarket ECU- just use your phone to tune the stock one.
Dude the bike makes more than enough usable power stock. Just tailor sag/fork height to get the bike handling how you want.
Grease everything. Dielectric grease the connections (especially if you pressure wash).
If you can, use non ethanol gas. Saves lots of headaches with fuel pump/injector problems.
for sure
I'm going to run VP T4 gas in it. That's what I've had a lot of people tell me to run.
The highest-octane gas stations sell in my area is 91.
Your decision but if it were me I’d run pump gas, and the bike stock a bit. Then take the extra money you’ve saved and take some riding lessons. Been around a bit and saw a ton of people get gung ho on parts, bling, and do dads then go out and huck something they shouldn’t because their buddies are, and game over. Good luck! Congrats on the bike.
Thanks again everyone!
I'm loving the bike!
Congrats! I’m also getting back into riding from a long break. Had my first time on a track since 2010 in November on a 2004 YZ250. Would love to try a modern bike to see how it feels.
How does your new bike feel compared to when you road 10+ years ago?
This as a MC mechanic for 40 years. I have tried others and went right back to BelRay
That's awesome! I'm glad you're getting back into it man
My old bike was a 2003 YZ250F I had stage 2 hot cams, bored out, full exhaust, race fuel, and triple clamps on it.
The bike was amazing. I could rip through corners in 3rd gear. Prior to having it built I wasn't able to do that.
This 2024 blows the 03 out of the water and it is still currently stock. I am amazed how far things have come. I ended up selling the 03 back in 2009.
When the time comes, I will build this bike/motor just for the heck of it. I am just out having fun. I don't get to ride too often, but just being able to do it again is nice.
If your running t4 run it 2 gallons premium to 1 gallon of T4
It will clean up the pump fuel for the bike. I can beat on a,bike a little bit and pumps still good for my yz250f. I only run race gas on race days and when i need to get rid of it. Even then im usually 50/50 and i have a mod motor. Overall id save the money for tires ect.
Thank you for the information!
What are some good tracks/trails to ride near Chicago? I'm about 3 hours from Chicago.
