The down vote button is nothing but troll bait. People get off on down voting even posts asking for prayers for downed riders. I don't know if its bots or what, but it's just stupid.

Maybe a poll will help convince the mods...

Poll

Should Vital ditch the down vote button?

Downvotes don't concern me personally but I think the only way to make it so people don't serial downvote is to show who's doing it . Edit : l normally don't bother downvoting but I couldn't resist this one . Wink

If they are NOT going to moderate the forum (way to many trolls) on a regular basis then leave the thumbs up/ thumbs down buttons. Now if they are going to start moderating by Vitals own posting guidelines then yes get rid of the buttons.  Better yet, get rid of the "start a Poll" button. Cool

The trolls around here don't need bait... They just continually post stupid shit.

Or you can be like @mxaddict and spend most your day finding every post someone make and downvoting it. Makes him feel warm and fuzzy inside.

PS. there is a way to see who downvoted you if you look at the HTML code.

I love both being downvoted and downvoting others.

Funniest part of Vital.

I don't care, but have to admit is irritates when you see someone posting something 'heartfelt' about their kids or family and you see that get downvoted...  but for example, if this gets downvoted, who cares Smile I downvote personally if someone writes something about two strokes bringing them back, as I think it's such backward movement, even if I grew up and still love the CR250, but it has no place in modern society.

I lol every time a mundane post gets down voted. I wish they were public purely for the entertainment value.

So my vote is keep the down votes, make them public, minimal moderation, and let shit fly!

Without downvotes you wouldn't know how many women see each post.

I get it, the occasional few downvotes on posts that in no way should get one can be irritating.

But, setting those aside, I like the feature.  I think it saves a lot of time, for posting and reading through threads.  You can agree with someone without have to quote them with "I agree" of "X2"....

It portrays then general consensus of the the people on the board.

I like it.

On a side note; It would be nice to dogear threads you want to follow, is that possible / already in play?

I think when I first began posting here, I had this belief that we were all kindred spirits who shared a love of the decidedly reckless sport of motocross, and as such we also had an affection for living bold lives and being rule-breakers and mischief-makers. Therefore, whenever I got downvoted, I felt kinda bad.

That feeling is long gone now.

I've now come to understand that a significant percentage of Vital's membership is comprised of easily upset, mindlessly conformist, reflexively obedient, hand-wringing little sheep who just want to be told what to do by all the "smart people" who run this sports "governing bodies."  Therefore, I not only don't mind the downvotes I now consistently receive, I actively seek them and feel kinda bad if I DON'T get them.

So then, I say keep it, and keep it anonymous too. Those who need it to express their viewpoints won't have the balls to engage otherwise, and that would ruin all my - whoops, I mean OUR - fun.

You must be a sad, sad person to get off on that. This must be why the French guys are always assholes in movies.

My post was motivated by ignoramus down votes in the rider down thread. It's not like I normally get pissed about them. It's just a stupid feature.

Might be time for another hobby or a second job. Who gives a fuck about Internet forum down votes. It'll be okay!

It blows me away how many grown adult males on vital get offended enough to comment or make a dedicated post when a stranger on the internet disagrees with them.

Truth is, most everyone has some interest in the up/down votes of their posts. Anyone saying otherwise is full of shit …it’s human nature to seek approval/disapproval from others. Yes, some may care more or less than others.  Whatever..

When I see a good post downvoted I often wonder what’s wrong with people.

I 100% think we need to be displaying down voters..

As long as there are people like you, it'll remain impossible to be sad on Vital.
