Nylon fasteners can be used in some non-critical areas...
i wish i could buddy but they wouldn't fall for that, i sell a few bits of titanium, the wife does the books and knows the prices so i have no chance lol i end up getting the same every year, a fox hoodie and new boot socks, at my age the excitement of birthdays and x-mas has gone, might be time to trade in the wife for a younger model
Trading your wife in for a younger model, is significantly more expensive than buying a new bike and replacing all bolts with titanium bolts!
Some of the nicest titanium is the stuff you cant see…

Way cool! Do you have a chromoly Webco in your collection?
OP…you have way too much money.
My question is: is there a single bike available to the general public that would really benefit from $6000-10,000 worth of titanium parts? I mean…seriously? Unless you’re a money-earning pro…what does it matter? Your ROI can’t be good?
But…it ain’t my money!
He has every make.
Way too much money? 😂 I’m an out of work foreman for a commercial plumbing company. I’m recovering from shoulder surgery and, I’ll be out until at least March. But, since you raised the question, I’ll answer it.
Will titanium make my bike faster? No.
I don’t need my bike to go faster. I ride single track in the PNW. I also take the occasional road trip to California to ride in the open desert.
Will the titanium catch tank I purchased help keep me from losing coolant. I’m certain it will. The plastic IMS coolant catch tank looks like shit. The carbon fiber ones I’ve seen aren’t much better.
As far as the amount of money I spend purchasing titanium, yet alone any other bike parts, I eat clean. I quit eating garbage. I don’t drink anything other than water and, coffee.
I don’t eat fast food. I don’t drink alcohol. Energy drinks are unhealthy AF.
I didn’t realize how much money I’d save until I cut all that stuff out. Granted, I haven’t drank in several years. Between spending $15 a day in the morning at Starbucks, $10 at the gas station getting energy drinks and, buying lunch which is another $15. That’s $200 I saved weekly by packing my own, healthier lunch. Getting up earlier and, making my own breakfast and, coffee. Then add in cutting out all the junk food purchased with the groceries. I’ll estimate that at another $50. $1000 a month minimum I’ve saved by changing my habits. Imagine saving that over a few years. I make steak and, lobster at home instead of dining out. I work hard to fill my freezer with salmon. I occasionally, spear fish for other sources of meat.
As far as I’m concerned, I purchased my bike seven years ago. I’ve always been a Honda guy.
I bought it knowing I would never sell it. The ROI is only applicable if I was looking to sell it. Since I’m not looking at selling it, ever, why wouldn’t I try to make it as nice as I can? I’m not making monthly payments on it.
With my injury, I missed out on fishing most of an entire salmon season. That’s another hobby I love. That’s another hobby I have funds set aside for annually that I’ve applied to my bike this year.
Sometimes the answers are pretty simple. My kids are grown, I have a decent job that I’ll return to and, I cut out garbage from my eating habits.
You don’t need to defend your reasons Chance. Hope the healing is on schedule. 👍
It’s actually going pretty good. I still have my sling on until Dec 15th. After that, I start physical therapy. The pain has mostly limited itself to nights and, mornings when I first wake up.
The part that sucks the most is I’m only averaging about 3 hrs of sleep each night. I have to sleep sitting up and, it’s so damn uncomfortable. Then I’m usually nodding off during the day. Other than that everything is, going according to plan.
In the meantime, I’m just watching parts pile in until I can use both hands. I swapped my pegs out the other day. It was such a pain in the ass. Took me awhile but, I got it done single handed (you should try it some time 🤣).
Here’s the pegs. I was pretty happy with them. I just need titanium pins now. Haha.
After I was done though, I was like fuck this shit. I can wait until I’m a bit better and, back to scrolling Vital I went.
I figured so. Crazy how guys get excited about nuts (and bolts).
ive got some titanium bolts but the bigger things are what I like.
In this pic I have a 1744 creations Ti cone pipe and some Nihilo Ti billet pegs.
Not in this pic I have a Pro circuit Ti2 pipe and Titanium subframe from the factory team
Chance...my post was actually "tongue in cheek", not at all to be critical...but maybe it didn't work out in print. Congratulations on your life/health decisions, and having the personal discipline to hang with it...with your eyes on the prize.
Your decisions make perfect sense, and although I don't have the discipline that you exhibit I hope to gain more in the area of spending stupidly daily on things add up, and that are basically not good for me in the first place.
Good for you on the life changing decisions, I’m currently trying to adopt more of it into my daily routine.
stocking with it is where it really matters and I’ve struggled to keep on top of my diet and consistency on it all.
All good man. I had no issue answering your questions. It can be tough to tell at times looking at words on a screen. Thanks
It’s tough, it took me about a month to get consistent.
I felt so much better. My energy levels were way up. I started working out again.
I dropped from 258 to, 202 within six months.
The only downside is having to get new springs for my suspension 😂

You took a picture of the shelves at Home Depot.
Just kidding. Damn man!!
Coolant catch tank showed up.
Lots of trick looking parts on that bike
Speaking of linkages, I cleaned up the casting flaws a couple weeks ago. Figured while I was at it, I might as well refresh the swing arm. Such a pain in the ass but, I’m happy with how it turned out. The chain guide was cleaned up using a Dremel and, various bits.
I figured it was also time to throw in a new axle.
Lots of eyesores lol. I still have to torque the bolts down. Shoulder started bugging so, I’ll deal with it tomorrow.
I managed to install the titanium catch coolant tank awhile back. It was a Bitch to install with the oversized tank as I mentioned in another thread.
Thankfully, I had my little helper Casper. He works for peanuts. Literally.

One piece I’m super happy with, although it’s not titanium, I got this from AJ. I can’t thank him enough. It really felt like Christmas when I got it.

Hi Damien.. I have one of the last NOS OEM linkages left, if you are interested. I removed the casting lines, but haven't used it because I found an NOS HRC linkage.
What did you do to "refresh" the swing arm?
mike
That's a step too far!
Hey Mike!! I hope you’re enjoying the new year.

The clear anodizing was scratched up and, had a couple decent gouges in the aluminum.
It was very, very, time consuming.
I started out gently using a 100 grit flapper on a Dremel. After getting the clear coat off I switched to a 80 grit flapper in the Dremel and cleaned up the gouges on the swing arm and, the chain guide. It took a lot of patience. Once I got them close, I went through various grades of sandpaper.
I started off with 120, 220, 440, all the way up to 800 wet sanding. After the wet sanding, the aluminum was very polished looking. I took it back with red Scotch Brite pads and, a ton of elbow grease. It took nearly nine hours total. I also installed new oem bearings in the swing arm and, linkage.
Yes, I’m interested.
Email coming your way.
Happy New Year, Damien! I asked about the swingarm, as the trickiest part is avoiding the polished look even with sandpaper/ Scotchbrite pads. Trying to get the brushed look back, the best results I have had is with dry #220 or #150 sandpaper and no water or WD40. When I try to use the red Scotchbrite, it still looks too polished. I need to touch up where I sanded off the older rear caliper guide after I weld on the new style guide.
. I kinda regretted going to to the wet sanding but, with the scotch Brite, it didn’t turn out too bad. I’m planning on getting the typical, Renthal DID, swing arm sticker from Throttle Jockey soon. With that clear they use in their decal, I’m fairly certain it’ll look better.
Grey scotchbrite and a spray bottle of distilled water works wonders on "flat polishing" aluminum.
Thanks, I will give that a try.
