Arizona finally received some good precipitation as it rained 3 days and you know what that means-- the Sonoron Desert has perfect riding conditions. Cool

Confession: As someone born and raised on the East Coast, I always feel so sheltered and envious when folks post about the desert riding scene... I'm 36yrs old and have been riding dirt bikes over 2/3 of my life, yet desert riding is so foreign to me, due to obvious geographic reasons.. Seems like such a fun and unique riding discipline that I doubt I'll ever fully understand, unless I move out West..

Arizona is the farthest east I've lived as I grew up in Southern Cal. Moved out here 32 years ago because they were closing tracks and riding areas back there and wanted to live the dream of riding out of my garage like the old days.

Well Arizona has grown a lot since then and now there have been a lot of tracks that have closed and it's getting harder to find riding areas like when I first moved out here it when was wide open.

There still are some great areas to ride but you have to know where to go.

You got that right--nothing better than a moist Desert!

Supposed to get some more of the wet stuff for the weekend. I'm here visiting my poor old Dad in Southern Cal as he's by himself for Thanksgiving but I didn't bring my bike and it's supposed to dump here tomorrow! Woohoo

Were those trails in the back country of the Sycamore creek area? They look familiar. We used to ride at Sycamore back in the early 2000s. I was there a couple of years ago and was super bummed about how much junk and debris there was along the staging area heading down to the main wash. Broken glass everywhere, dump sites, even a couple of shot up motorhomes. It was so pristine back in 2001, 2002 by comparison. Sad Maybe they have cleaned up that area since 2015? Guessing that is a big part of why they are closing these areas down. OHV folks are paying the price because so many dirt bags from the city are making a mess of things (guess this last sentence could apply to politicians too)

Bro I feel ya. Been in Michigan my whole life so rain is just a thing that always happens. Wet tracks are just a part of riding in this area. The thought of riding on rock or hard non sandy terrain is just foreign to me.

Right.. Dude above posted a pic of a rutty track, and all I could do is smile.

I love the desert pics, have never ridden in one and hope to someday. But my idea of a “trail” is a lot different.

WoW good memory those last three pics are from the back trails in Sycamore Creek and you're right that area has gotten roached out over the years and the Flawless single-track is now a big rut.

We don't ride over there much anymore because of those two things. I have seen in other states where they have a specific tractor that fixes single track I forget which state it is but sure would be nice if somehow all our money that comes from the gas tax could be used in maintaining some of the trails I know that's probably some kind of far-fetched dream as some politician probably needs a new SUV. Angry

What bums me out is Sycamore Creek used to be so close to my house and now I have to drive farther but oh well it's still worth it. 😎

The southwest desert is so awesome to ride in because it's so wide open and diverse.

It is fun. Very different from moto but, fun. Smile We are spoiled out here on the west coast for sure.

When it rains in the desert it isn’t rock hard....it becomes a perfect traction. There is nothing like wet desert single track or making turn tracks in a wet desert. It’s the best thing ever.

I’m headed out to ride the high desert tomorrow morning. They got 6” of snow last night/ today, but it’s done raining/ snowing until Sunday evening. Should be good for Saturday, but we are riding all three days.

Good on you for coming to spend time with your dad, I hope my kids will be so thoughtful when I’m old.

Okay boys last four weekends have been epic out here with only last week the first time we had some dust.
There's supposed to be some rain in the forecast for three days straight!

The Moto Gods are raining down in the Valley of the Sun...😲
Can't wait for the weekend I get excited with a moist Sonoron Desert....😎

Always good to end the day at the local bar for some much-needed grub and brewskis.... 🍻


Last weekend was the first time we had some mechanical issues this season.



Jimco was riding Don's (RIP 😟) Husky 450 and the clutch failed halfway into the ride.
Well it was a good time for a lunch break and Kimbro came up with a brilliant idea of draining oil out of his oil filler hole on his Beta which we had to completely lay flat on the ground into his Tupperware that he used for his sandwich. 😲

We used that oil to put into the EMPTY clutch Reservoir and we bleed it until the clutch came back and Jimco was good to go.
What I did not realize was I now had a flat front tire that I did not know till we took off again!
When it rains it pours hahaha

After we had already lost a bunch of time Kimbro decided it was best just to pump some air into it and stop a few times to get back to the vehicles.

Ended up taking two more CO2 cartridges and I made it back to the van mostly on a flat tire-- 20 + miles of fun.... 👺🤣

You all should definitely put it on your bucket list. Growing up in So Cal. I have ridden desert, beach, plus most of the well known tracks (Glen Helen, saddleback, carlsbad, Indian dunes). Moved to South in my 20's. When my son got 16 we loaded the van and spent a 2 week trip riding in So Cal. Still remember his reaction when riding wide open across a dry lake, along the waves, and when we showed up at Pala and 10+ pros were there.

I grew up in Fountain Hills... nothing beats the smell of rain in the Sonoran Desert from the creosote bushes or the traction after or while it’s raining! looks like you guys had fun... what part of the valley are you guys riding?

Fountain Hills is nice, we use to have an awesome ST loop off of 136 and also Pima/Dynamite.
I'm sure you must have rode that.

Moved to Tennessee a little over a year ago after 25 years in AZ. Miss the smell of the desert after a good rain. Hard to beat upper sycamore back in the day, or the mile markers. So much good riding. Enjoy boys!
