I’ve always wanted one of these cars

I never thought I'd say these words but you should listen to your wife on this one. What color you getting ? 

No not mine but I like the silver. I told my daughter she could pick out any car at 18 and I suggested the corvette and she said the craziest thing I ever heard a kid say, "How do I take my dogs with me dad, I want an Equinox. " I have never been so disappointed in her. Lol 

Why you asking us? If you have money to burn go for it. 

Chevy engineers based the motor very very heavily off the 458 italia, which is one of my favorite NA cars of all time.  Get it.

Orange is the only right answer.

A buddy got one awhile ago and I got to drive it. If you’re in a position to get one, do it. Went like a scalded cat and was just an overall hoot to drive. Plus they look amazing.

2 ways to go. Many years ago I really loved the Porsche Boxster. Never really thought I'd buy one but I really loved the look of it and how it was said to handle. One day my wife and I were out test driving cars (back in turn of the century time), no intention of buying a car that day, just a fun day out. There happened to be this one special outfitted one and my wife was relentless that I should buy it. I ended up with another car that day. Looking back, I still love that car but financially, if I thought it out about how I would be driving that car. I'd have spent the money and bought a high quality Cobra replica. Instead of losing a lot of value, I'd have made money. But since I have no intention of selling the car, that's a moot issue. So if you're going to have that car a looong time like me, you probably don't care about the financial hit. But if that's an issue, I'd look at some classic cars that will go up in value instead of down. There is no right answer, It's all about what you want.

The newer body style of the Corvettes is awesome! I'd say go for it and maybe consider a lease or a balloon payment loan so that you have an out if you end up not liking it as much as you think.

Go for it. I was at a car show this morning and saw the orange color in person and its pretty awesome. Tons of metallic flake in it.

I have a 22 GT500 with the Tremec DCT (mine is a 7 speed vs the 8 in the C8) and its awesome.

It is the best value supercar on the market!

I absolutely love the look of the new C8.  They are far better looking in person than in pictures, also. 

Hopefully the roads are smoother up in Plano than down here, though!  I don’t know if I could live with extremely stiff suspension on the roads around Dallas. But those Corvettes are still a hell of a value, even now while demand is probably higher than supply.

                          I am sorry to say that you are wrong. There is always room for two sports cars in a man’s life. My suggestion would be that you purchase two C8 Corvettes. One convertible, one ERAY. This way you will not need to let your wife borrow your Corvette, as she will have her own. This type of devious thinking has served me well over the years, and I am happy to share my knowledge. If this does not work out for you, and you must sell the Corvettes, please call me at 1~900~her~cars.               

Ain't nobody asking for your man card if you're driving a vette. I would have loved to have one of those Caymans for a daily driver. The Boxster doesn't come out in inclimate weather. I may have been caught in a random summer rain storm but looking back, and knowing now how often I take her out, I think I should have bought the Cobra. There was just no thinking involved, epitome of an impulse buy. I don't regret it, as I know you won't if you buy the new vette. I will say it should be a loud color, the orange for sure. The white may look elegant but that car screams performance and fun. The color will put you in the right frame of mind for driving it.

Once upon a time, in the olden days of Turbo-Hydramatics and the like, manuals, having been updated with the latest in syncromesh technologies, were indeed better than old school slushboxes that still used whale oil for lubrication. Those days are no longer. Dropping three gears on the paddles heading into a corner and then blasting out with near-instantaneous upshifts will make you forget all about clutches. And that's from someone who's primary daily driver still has three pedals (and no fucking screens), unlike most of the blowhard save-the -manuals crowd that commutes in their 3-row CUV's.

And a C8 in a really cool flat white on our used lot made me love those cars. Might not necessarily be what we'd all get if we could, but it's really one of those questions with no wrong answer, isn't it?

White is clean and timeless.  And don't worry, you don't want a manual in a modern car, it's all about triptronic.  Manuals are for muscle cars.  

Great looking cars, and incredibly good value from a Brit’s perspective. 

Cars are fun. I recently rented one of my dream cars while on vacation in Vegas. Long story short, it was amazing…then the damn thing broke and I got to drive a 2nd car. Well worth the money to me

Yes sir. We drove out to Hoover Dam, Lake Las Vegas and then cruised through Valley of Fire State Park. 
 

When the kids moved out my wife wanted a sports car. Got a red Genesis coupe, 6 cylinder 6 speed manual. Fun car until the cops ruined it.  

Since this is a fun topic and everyone is posting different cars anyway, and I know TXDirt is getting two Corvettes, I would be remiss not to mention, if you're looking at cars in the Vette/Cayman range, an often overlooked one that I guarantee you will never not look back at when you park it and is just a really fun car that gets lots of attention, this one: 

A few years back Toyota/Lexus was saying that the only car company they feared was Hyundai/Genesis. That particular model is supposed to be a real fun car.

It was super fun, front engine rear wheel drive, you could slide it around like a go kart. But that car was also in the shop for a variety of things more than any other car I've ever owned. Long story but the techs / mechanics at the dealership weren't the brightest bulbs on the string either, which didn't help.  I sold it when the warranty was up. 

Drove a white one like this about a month ago, super clean looking with black and red trim and gray black red interior. 

Super fun to drive, but man it just begs to be opened up more than what is smart to do on the road.

Hiring the lead designer from BMW was smart. They've stepped their quality up a fair bit lately, too.
