Knee Braces and Shroud Graphics.

So I recently made the switch to braces as my knees were getting bruised to hell when squeezing the bike. But once I made the switch, I rubbed holes through the vinyl on my fresh graphics kit on the first ride with the braces. How do you brace guys keep from destroying your graphics? Extra layer of clear vinyl? Want to find a way to stop rubbing holes in my graphics before i spend 400 bucks at Decal Works for a new kit.IMG 1823 0

I don't squeeze the bike enough... As a result my shit stays pristine. I recommend bad technique for better looking graphics.

It’s just the price of doing business. Graphics kits only last one or two rides before good riders go through them.

you might as well add it to your budget and call it a badge of honor.

A more serious reply from me...

Looks like Attack graphics on there now which is a cheap brand. Good chance a high quality vendor would be using a thicker vinyl. Some even have options for thicker vinyl. Still, tough to avoid going through them eventually if you squeeze hard.

Yeah i just threw them on instead of running a bland bike. Never worn through without braces though. I do tend to squeeze pretty hard though.

Knee Braces will be hard on any graphics. When you go thicker you risk grabbing an edge and peeling them off so keep that in mind.  Anything you can do to make the hinge less sharp. a sock over the sharp parts. Tape.  Your pants will wear out faster too if you do not do something.   The textured finish laminate can last longer in muddy races. But for dry rides it will wear the same or quicker than regular gloss. It will be interesting to see what people say .

Sell the braces and buy a new set of graphics. Get the EVS TP199. Will solve all your problems.

The Laett braces that do not have the inner hinge might be less harsh on the graphics.   They look like there is less to cause an issue on them.  But by now You already spent the money on the braces You have .

Yeah, my CTI 2's were absolutely brutal on any graphics so I bought a set of the TP199's and they are pretty damn good. The knee braces never saved my shitty knees from damage anyways.

When I order my graphics, I also get clear pieces cut to go over the knee brace area. It gives a bit more protection, and you can replace them if needed.

If you are looking at the full tp199 I would recommend the Axle Hodges version over them. They fit better. The tp199 lite fits fine though.

1. I believe you can re order just the shrouds and not the entire kit.

2.  I typically try and run simple graphics that don’t have much going on in that area that is being rubbed or make sure that the area of the graphics is the same color as the plastic.

I bought a roll of clear skate grip tape off amazon and put that over the wear spots. It peels off pretty quick from wear, but doesn't seem to hurt the graphics. Its more labor intensive to replace, but at $12 a roll its much cheaper than graphics. Just gotta make some templates once you get the desired cut.

Just don't throw out the old sticker kit, take largest pieces and cut out with scissors the same shape and size as pants knee leather details and stick them in, your radiator/tank shroud stickers will last longer and also those leathers.

I used to wear out mine also, I got a set of throttle syndicate graphics and haven’t, actually look pretty good still. Are your pant knees worn out? Could also be the newer pod braces i have? My old ones ate my pant knees

Good thing a lot of you guys didn't ride back before plastic tanks, You would rub the paint off your tank in a few rides. But then again we cared how fast we rode not how our paint or graphics looked. Blush

Not sure if aftermarket companies offer it, but my Yamaha stock graphics are inlaid in the shrouds, and they look good after 130+ hours. You can't change them, but I haven't felt the need for custom graphics since my early 20's.
