I'm not a fan of his and never was actually, I always thought he was a cocky kid, with no respect for others. But you can't deny his ability to ride a dirt bike. He came in 2nd at a GNCC race which opened some eyes and now apparently has an AX ride, so he still has some skills on a bike. Him being in the series will probably fill some seats cause lets face it, he's like an accident on the highway, and everyone will stop to stare.

And although I'm not a fan I'm also not a hater, so I believe in letting him work for what he can in life and if that's an opportunity to be a good person, so be it.

I’m not knocking him so don’t take it that way but he took 2nd in the industry class and 33rd overall in the morning race. Either you don’t know anything about the GNCCs or you’re making it out to be something it’s not. A bunch of people in the Sportsman, Schoolboy and women’s class beat him in the overall. He didn’t race against the men’s pro classes, A classes or even B classes. Those classes race in the afternoon for 3+ hours.

He did very well for his first time and I’m betting he was the most popular rider in the pits. But don’t act like he did something spectacular like racing the pro class and finishing second.

Correct, I do not know anything about GNCC, I just read he got 2nd in the class he entered (Industry class).

Which sounded ok to me for the first race in over a decade, but again I'm neither a fan or a hater but thought it must have been ok if it got him a spot on an AX team.

His GNCC ride didn’t get him an arenacross ride. His name got him the arenacross ride.

Wow a lot of hate in this thread

Yeah I don't understand it... Can't everyone just be happy that he is doing good again and we get to see him ride and race? I like Jlaw, he was my childhood hero and I'm thrilled if I see him race in AX.

Aside from all his past antics, I just hope that he might be one of the very few that can come back from that hell of addiction and be a contributing member of society and our sport. He's the only one that can make that decision to do the work.

Props to Jason for still wanting to ride for fun but the jokers in here that want to see him line up again, where is your brain?

Ryan Dungey gave it a whirl last year and had a pretty good run but was still not at the top, keep in mind he was a training freak, j law on the other hand, not so much. I mean really, what are you expecting from him. It’s mind boggling to think that people believe at 34 j law still has something in the tank at the pro level.

We are talking about Arenacross. Dungey would mop the floor with them. And to think that J-law couldn’t be competitive in Arenacross at 37 is a bit naive in my opinion. 37 isn’t that old. He never really stopped riding as far as I know. If he’s in good riding shape, he will hold his own just fine.

You totally missed the point, but what’s naive is to think that coming off the couch after 10 years and a few weeks months prep he is going to be battling with the likes of Kyle Peters and co at 37. Name one other pro that was ever at the top of AX at 37 much more, one that came off the couch. I’m on the J Law train but I am also a realist. Want proof let’s talk Alessi an AX results, a guys who has never quit racing. AX is no joke like you infer

All you gotta do around here to ignite a multi-page shitstorm is put 'Jlaw' in the post title.

Comprehension is king. The only one that took some time off after SX was Bradshaw all the others raced AX into their early to mid thirties, they didn’t return to racing at 37 after a plus 10 year layoff.  What about that scenario leads you to believe he is going to come in an be a contender? Genuinely curious

I just find it funny that both Don and Weege has material of J law now while Gypsy probably crying in a corner since he sounded so confident that he was gonna be the one who brought J law back to the public.

Hope Stank dog and J Law are both at the races. Will bring back a kind of 90's vibe.

He's a dumbass not a bad person, you guys are just bored.

Yeah, he really affected him. Too bad Dunge never won any championships...oh wait.

You missed him saying Ryan's, plural. Yeah his mental warfare with RV and Dunge sure gave him an edge. What ever happened to those guys? I don't know why everyone is so hot and bothered over him though. Let the dude be. Does anyone know him personally? If not then as far as we know he's kept out of trouble for 13yrs. I wouldn't doubt the reality of his age and what he missed out on is hitting him pretty good. He wants to do some racing and get some of the good feelings that go with it back, good for him

I'm not saying Jlaw is going to win, but he for sure at some point in the season will have decent rides if he stays in it and stays as "serious" as he is in the interviews now. My reasoning for that is that instead of having one AMA Arenacross series, there is now three. Watered down is the wrong term, but it's not as stacked as it was back in the days.

Stroupe won AX after some time off and his story was very similar with Jlaw in many ways.

My main point is that it's really good to see him again and I do think it is good for the sport. Look at the buzz he has made already, I think it is only a good thing.

Can’t you guys see he’s just getting his feet wet again before stepping up to the big leagues… the Indian SX series.

Weege has a good video interview with him up on RacerX / YouTube.

https://racerxonline.com/2023/11/02/weege-show-jason-lawrence-at-phoeni…

He seems to be pretty happy, with a lot of options  through the Phoenix  set up.

I'm probably  wrong, but I've always thought he had a stake in ARMA. He's there sporting said logo on his cap.

As to his character,  and what he did or didn't do, I've never been a hater or  ball hanger for any rider. Though, I, like a lot of others, I assume, was somewhat aghast at his various travails years ago.

His take on other riders when he raced against them,  was quite Hannah esque, and his thoughts on rivals then and now are pretty  generous and reasoned.

It will be interesting to see if he does go onward with his riding, and race participation. He / Weege mentioned the Sipes style of 'eventing', and that surely would be fun, but, a lot of work.
