Feel bad for him, and for the nitwits when you crash on the sand the collarbone will break at impact, that bone is fragile as fuck. This is just bad luck and has nothing to do with being fragile
Herlings needs to (IMO) get off the bike an into a team manager/ambassador position for KTM. At least he doesn't stand a chance of breaking anything that way...and even if KTM paid him out the wazoo, it's probably still less than they have wasted on him so far.
By all accounts he is a really cheap guy and doesn't want to give up an income opportunity by not racing these start money events.
KTM should say no to everything outside of his day job, IMO...
Breaking his leg on a mini bike prior to unadilla should have ended that .

This thread title has been annual since 2012... literally. He hasn't been healthy for a full year since 2011.
This is the off season so it's not a big deal. If it were the season, they would probably plate it and he may not even miss a race. Telling someone they can't do what they like to do can lead to them leaving. Think of McGrath leaving Honda. It was as much that as he didn't like the new chassis. I do think he could have still won on that stiff sucker easier than on that Suzuki.

Jeffrey Herlings, talking of strong in the head, I don’t know how he comes back from all these injuries and is still so fast, how do you deal with it from your perspective?
Yeah, to be honest, I don’t understand (how he does it) myself. I was a tough guy back in the day, but I’m happy I never had that many injuries. I had injuries just like everybody had but not as many as Jeffery luckily. I’ve really got respect for how he comes back but also he keeps on getting hurt as well. From the team side, there is not so much you can do.
You know the boy is putting the work in but at some stage, we have to accept that at some stage he judges certain situations a bit wrong which keeps him getting him hurt. That’s a bit sad for us because we know when he is fit, he is still the fastest kid on the planet as he has proven at times this year.
To me it sometimes looks like bad luck, the last two injuries, just the way he fell. Do you feel it is just bad luck or is it decision making in certain moments?
Well, Jeffrey has been getting injured all his career, you could say one or two injuries could eventually be bad luck but the way he has been getting injured, yeah, I would not be honest if I would say that’s bad luck, then I wouldn’t believe myself, that’s not just bad luck. Then you have to analyze what you are doing and try to do things better.
Starting to think it’s a curse or karma for being cocky and saying he’s the fastest.
I think many amercans hate herlings because he is not american........look at haiden deegan who is just as cocky as herlings but they love him.......i. don't think either of them is cocky by the way
And also karma is not a real thing .
that's right
I've met JH and he's a nice typical Dutch guy, I think it is just all these crashes that conclude with broken bones make a lot of fans in America a bit frustrated, mostly because they want to see him here racing in the nationals and that will never happen at his performance peak, he will be 30 in 11 months.
I know he is really driven by making as many euros as he can before he retires and I totally get that, but some of the non-MXGP stuff that he does for start money and gets hurt doing it is not the best thing for him or his relationship with Pit Beirer.
But maybe he just DGAF about titles any more now that he can't beat Evert's total of 10?
Kinda like the euro fans. dislike deegan.
Genuinely interested to know his crash to injury ratio as a pro.
Dude barely bounces it seems.
The start and prize money he made last two races were good enough to come and race, trust me
It is a fine line between being reckless doing these races or being smart getting some cash in the off season. He was racing himself in shape again. What do you want him to do, rent tracks the entire winter spinning laps by his own? Unfortunately we don't have big training facilities here in Europe, this thing could have happened in Loon-Plage during a regular training day as well.
He was riding really well, controlled and without any drama or WFO things. De Wolf actually passed him twice first moto but crashed shortly after (two times). That's why he won moto 1. In moto 2 he had a big gap after 3/4 laps, but then he, De Wolf and Martens came into lappers. There was absolutely nothing he could do here. But as you can see this thread will turn into another MXGP vs AMA or Herlings vs Tomac/Jettson/Sexton thread

Beach racing in Not motocross. And motocross is not beach racing.. All we train with beach racing is the fastest line BETWEEN the lappers.
Okay we need to be as fast as possible and train on that. But you can be the fastest on the training track when u are alone, but we pass like 200 riders A LAP, so you will never ever ride the same line. Vlissingen is not such a big beach race but still you ride with a level difference. Crashes like these happen to the top riders like 5 times a race. Sometimes without any harm, sometimes with broken bikes or bones. The injury is unlucky, that’s for sure. But just be aware that beach race is not motocross, and the risk involved is different, specially with being able to become frustrated if you are not used to the amount of riders on track. For a rider like Jeffrey who makes around 5 to 10k start money in a race like this (because he is just the star he is), compare this to a few mill annual income and possible millions of bonus taking the MXGP title, it’s his decision to take if it’s smart or not.
Deegan who?? Oh that pussy who only races in the USA 😂. At least Herlings goes international 😋
living the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.
Pit Row
I don't think the hate comes from his not being American so much as the way he carries himself. He seems to be more arrogant than cocky, but can only be the FMOTP between ambulance rides! Dangerboy might be cocky, but at least he puts his money where his mouth is and wins races without crashing out of them, and breaking himself up.
Funny you can be the best of the best, but when it goes sideways they forget the positive and bring up the negative stuff.. he has won more gp then anyone in history that title alone is worth enough to be a goat.. when you put RC everts steward in their prime next to herlings in his best shape. I bet herlings beats them all.. who cares for season statistics.. when you crash it’s game over.. so you lose a title that only matters for the company you ride for and to boost your ego.. 1 2 3 titles add more statistics. Rosberg won F1 title and retired quit on your highest moment. Then people cannot backslash your reputation same with Valentino Rossi the shit talk when he couldn’t win anymore. Rossi has 9 titles should have won 10 titles. Herlings has 5 titles should have won 10 titles.
Wins more important than titles? Nope
I have nothing against JH, other than I'm a Gajser fan. But...
"he has won more gp then anyone in history that title alone is worth enough to be a goat" - No, only for his fanboi's.
"who cares for season statistics" - Pretty much everyone. The titles are infinitely more important than race wins.
"Herlings has 5 titles should have won 10 titles." - Should have is exactly why he's not in the GOAT discussion.
He's a rocket on a dirt bike... But the sum of his career is less than that of many others. In a single race? I'm not betting against JH. But for a season? I'm absolutely betting Everts or Carmichael...
I agree but when you consider a mx rider competing in a race ofcourse it’s a endurance not a sprint to become world champion but. Mx or sx still is a very dangerous sport if you can be champ without injury.that’s worth respect. But that same rider loses a battle head on with a guy who is faster but crashes sometimes in the season. I don’t think Herlings is a kamikaze rider. But doesn’t know how stay behind and finish is more important then stacking up gp wins and I respect that attitude.. go win every gp go all in or stay home his records proofs it so his speed in his prime time was unbeatable by any rider till this day. And injuries are part of this game he is playing. How many here had their bones broken going 10 times slower.
Jeffrey reinjured the collarbone which he broke during practice of the dutch GP. It just wasn't healed for 100%. Bad judgement by a doc.
And now make a list of any other rider who won at least one championship with something broken along the way every time. Is there any?
