Infront is playing it safe with MXoN venues... Matterly, Erneé, Red Bud, St jean, Maggiora... Just put it somewhere else imho.

I would like to see MXoN in Lierop when Namur is out of the question. Or put it in Latvia, Slovenia or Finland.

Unfortunately it is not many venues that can handle a MXoN event. It's not just about a great track. It is more about everything around it.

Travel, parking, pit areas, 20-30k crowd, local government support etc.

This has been discussed countless times.

They pretty much confirmed that it is going to be a track in Italy, France, GB and USA rotating from this point forward.  The infrastructure in the other countries might be enough to handle a GP, but not MXoN.

So Matterley Basin was expected and is not a surprise.

Latvia in 2014 was an attempt to run the event at a so called more normal GP venue. I was there and it was a great event and good for us Swedish fans because it was pretty easy to go there.

but it didn’t really got that real mxon feeling. It was more like a GP with some spicy in it. These were also when mxgp wasn’t that stacked as it is nowadays, back then it was Cairoli Paulin Van horebeek, and clement desalle who pretty much were the big shots in mxgp at this time. The us team was there and it was some nice racing.

but compare to teuchental in 2013 and Ernee the year after Latvia it was a completely different experience to visit those.

unless you want to put it onto a MotoGP venue, it needs to be at some of these more usual nations tracks. At least in Europe. In USA there is a ton of tracks that can handle the crowd and infrastructure with no problem.

Sweet! I plan to take my son to this as his HS graduation gift. Then we will go visit our former exchange student and her family near Grenoble. Do they run any amateur events prior to the MXoN like they do the US AMA outdoor nationals? My boy is a very solid 125 rider and would love to try out Matterly Basin. Bucket-list stuff there.

You are right, MXoN is more. It's not 100k for logistics. They calculate both days (or even 3...) in the total number. So 30-50k on Sunday alone. Still a lot, twice as a GP.

I’d say it’s fair to give those 3 countries one every 5 years. I’d say the other 2 should be elsewhere though. That would be a good 5 year rotation cycle. 2 wild cards and 3 set countries.

The event should be on a 4 year cycle. Not once every 4 years. But in a 4 year span it should be in Europe twice, USA once and somewhere else in the world once. It will never happen but that would give it a much more global feel.

I’m not saying I agree with their plan…. But I think the Kegums race in 2014 changed the trajectory.  If they had the 4 countries they’ve chosen and then worked hard to come up with a 5th location that moved around, that would be better for me.

I did not see they announced an actual date yet?  Like Hammers I am taking my son and wife for his senior trip.  I have to block my work calendar early though or I will get committed to something else not nearly as fun as going to Nations!

Yes you need a massive amount of accessible land with infrastructure to host a MXON these days.

The total footprint Ernee takes up dwarfs the size of the track.

It seems that from now on, all MXoN will be in France, Italy, England, Belgium/Netherlands and USA, it's very sad, this event is like the Olympics or the Motocross World Cup.

There should be more variety of hosts, not only in Europe and USA, South America could be a good destination, Argentina has one of the best MXGP circuits (AND the best stage), in Brazil there is a lot of motocross fans, or South East Asia, Sumbawa (Indonesia) is also one of the best MXGP circuits, besides being the country where more motorbikes are sold in the world, I am sure that in Australia there must be circuits capable of hosting MXON, or if you do it in Europe, experiment in Portugal, Spain, go to the north, Finland or Sweden, or places like Greece, South Africa. .. The possibilities are endless.

Same locations and it’s going to lose its aura. Country’s will lose interest.

It’s also not right that a lot of country’s will constantly need to travel half way round the world every year. These country’s will get sick of reaching into their pockets for zero return except maybe bragging rights.

In Villa La Angostura, Argentina, this is where the Argentinian MXGP round is held. It's only used for the MXGP race 🥲 but as you said it could be a moto/adv destination, the countryside surrounding the track is also stunning, could be a good vacation trip for an MXdN.

Imagine the costs for every country to travel to Argentina?
when was the last time Argentina sent a team to the MXoN?

Anyone know when they will announce the date?  If you assume the same weekends off as this year, it should be the 1st weekend in October 5th and 6th?  That would allow AMA riders to participate and have a weekend off between Nationals and SMX, then another weekend off between SMX and Nations.  Does that sound about right?

10/10/2023 11:07pm

Forgive my ignorance, but how come Hawkstone Park is never an option? And I'm sure Donnington Park would still work for an MXoN.

Man, I always thought Trentino, Italy had the best background scenery in motocross, but this place is incredible!

On Topic: If Australia doesn't get a des Nations at some point during the Lawrence era, that'll be a massive fail on the Australian sanctioning body's part.
