During WW2, when germans kicked out russsians from Latvia, germans mobilized thousands of locals and forced them to fight. They did the same in russia too. Russians were fighting against Moscow.
When WW2 was over and russians kicked out germans, many latvians who served in werhmacht did not give up arms and kept fighting for free Latvia. They lived in a woods. Russian history portrey them as nazis, but they were latvian patriots who fought russsians long 8 yearss after WW2 was over.
At that time germanss were considered better evil. Average german solder was more civilized. Russianss did horible things here, whiped out 25% of Latvians. They did the same in Ukraine. Russians starved to death 7 million ukrainians. Russians were evil then. Many saw germans as liberators. It`s easy for us to paint everything black and white 80 years later. Majority of population in Europe found out about german athrositiess and concentration camps only after WW2 was over.
At the end of WW2 , 150000 latvians or 10% of population left Latvia to Sweden or Germany cause they knew what`s comming and did not want live under russians again.

Ukrainians, Latvians, Estonians and Lithuanians did some pretty awful things themself. It’s ok to accept some bad history. My country did some bad shit too.

I suggest you do some research on the Waffen SS, It had volunteers in the thousands from all over Europe. The 5th SS Wiking division would be a good place to start, collaboration was far from a solely Ukrainian affair which was the point of the British example that you completely missed.
Just to clarify I'm not even pro-Ukrainian, its clear neither side is going to win in what has effectively turned into the western front of 1916.
I didn’t say the SS didn’t have volunteers across Europe. I said 40 UK volunteers was a bad example compared to the 1st Galacian that murdered hundreds of thousands.
No disagreement here. The Ukrainians pretty much had to choose between serfdom for Russia or volunteering for Germany. Their decision to do either was based more in practicality and survival than it was ideology. This was a common circumstance for many people in the vast geography between Berlin and Moscow.
The point is that trying to associate Nazi ideology with modern Russia is nothing more than fear mongering because, administratively, Russia has never been aligned with Nazism. There may be elements within Russia that idolize Nazi military history as a model of combat capability and intimidation, but the nation as a whole doesn’t subscribe to the ideology. Ukraine similarly. The narrative of trying to paint Russians as Nazis fuzzies the historical context and whitewashes the history of Ukraine because, though they were making the choice between two really shitty options, they were largely sympathetic to the Nazis and that’s a difficult fact to contend with when you need to drum up support for a war.

This is a pro Ukraine thread for the most part, should not be surprised.
Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lybia. Trillions spent in the name of peace, democracy and stability and more trillions to spend in the future for veterans benefits, and interest to be paid on the printed and borrowed money. And still we dont know how much it costs to bring peace, democracy and stability but we sure know what it costs to turn all of these countries upside down and into chaos and instability. And we know how many people need to die to accomplish this.
Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, ? How about Iran, China ?
How much is enough ? I dont know but the diplomacy play book got thrown out the window long ago and it sure sounds like the US is going to keep pumping money and weapons into Eastern Europe until we find out. Or run out of people to kill.
War is an industry that much of the US economy is relies on. And the people that get filthy rich in this industry will do everything they can to keep feeding the monster.
I dont really have words strong enough but its a hell of a thing Ive been watching go on for the last 20 years.
