After a spinal injury on a 250 Smoker, I returned, feeling safer, just being on the track on a 125. Done with the speed, for me, not what it's about. Just being out there, havin' fun. And, making it look hot in the process, maybe a little too far!
I’ve stared at that thing trying to figure out what brand it is - KX?
04+ KX125 had a lot of fun on my 04 beating up on those fancy new 250f's.
04 is a is a Great yr for 125,s and the most interesting for sure . That everyone made a 250f. Hv you seen MC on his PC 04 kx125 at Mamouth mtn ? My local track is all hills & valleys, hard pack like concrete with silt on top. Jump faces dug into the side of a hill all jewed up. 4th wo it kicks ya sideways a young rider said dick whip. I laughed & said I didn’t mean to do that. But landed perfectly every time . Linking corners together threw the hills & valleys it feels like your flying threw the air. When your brain says brake you don’t you send it in there Hot. Just keep it on the pipe at times in the lower mid range linking stuff together. A little slip of the clutch in corners. You can try diff styles Get pegs with decent grip, a good clutch perch Bud racing has 2 styles the cheaper 1 is great. I installed a cr easy pull lever , use 2 sided tape on both levers. Get the springs rt. That’s all you need . They make more hp than Decoster,s 500,s.

Local trk you hv to be really smooth . It forces ya to hv perfect body position it’s like riding on ice. Just stay loose & hv fun .i only do 4 or 5 laps but keep the intensity high. Brakes ovr heated & soaked in sweat. I might throw in fender taps- helmet to fender. Old school brake taps r always fun. It’s the only bike that you can improve or try something different each time. The 12+ 125 class has lap times near or equal to the A class.
Plus you can hv a few serious injuries & still ride. One of my many is a shoulder I couldn’t raise my arm at all off to the side.
Don’t listen to these fools.
A 125 is for old guys with lots of dough and already have a few 4-strokes in garage and want to add a sick old school two stroke to the mix. They are “made “ old dudes with extra cash to spare. I don’t blame them 125s are sik.
The only other guys that get them are serious ex fast guys that can truly rip on them.
If you don’t fall into those categories get a modern 250F
See if you can try one first. I grew up racing 2 strokes but there is no way I'd have a 125 as my only bike. I'll spin a few laps on my wife's yz125 every now and then but for my everyday bike its either a 250 2 stroke or 450
We ride for fun. 125s are fun. Make sense?
Just got my 150 going today after the keihin swap. What is everyone running for gearing? I ride more fast single track type stuff most the time and I'm wondering if I need to gear it down at all or if I should leave it.
Also I'm having a problem with the rear brake, it's non existent. I tried to adjust it but no luck. When I pushed the piston in on the caliper it shot brake fluid out the weep hole on the top of the reservoir. Not sure if I have a seal gone bad or something, anyone else have this happen?
I guess I’ve been doing it all wrong the whole time…
Nobody told me this was supposed to make sense!
But, 125’s are awesome.
The 13 48 gearing on the 150 is good... I went to 13 49, it's the wrong way, but I run 49 wheel on other bikes.... the 150 is a bit quick thru gears with this setup, but it still pulls 4th no problem on deeper tracks
13/46 on mine currently it doesn't go thru the lower gears as fast. But as expected it does make it more 125 like. So you have to rev it more clutch it more be more aggressive riding style.
But 2nd n 3rd will pull longer going to the 46 gets you to the same gear ratio as the 125. Or the other option is going to a 14 front. Which is equal to about taking 3 teeth off the back.
I want to try a 47 out see what it does
Seems kinda dumb to ask if I should even try to use this thing for semi gnarly enduro stuff, seems like the low end in kinda non existent. I did look up the cylinder part number between the 150 SX and 150 XC and they're the same. Sounds like I'll just you speed and some clutch!
