Probably getting paid more.  16th in the 250 in SMX doesn’t pay much.

Should have bowed out last week before I picked him on my fantasy team (just a joke, stay calm). Hopefully he's in good health, maybe he has a nagging injury that needs a few extra weeks of recovery?

Injury wouldn't surprise me one bit, Max was hauling at Daytona this year, thought he would have been at least top 5 on a hybrid track.

16th place in the series in 250 SMX pays $9000.  I can only assume he’ll get more than that for the Aussie round of WSX.

You're assuming he can't do better....there's a chance he could make a lot more...TBH it doesn't make any sense to pull out now to prepare for a race that's 10 weeks away...gotta be more to it...is Deano pulling out too?

Wow - the guy that rides for an Australia team has pivoted to Australia SX & the Australian-managed "World" Championship.

Why is that surprising to people? There isn't a lot of layers to that one folks.

Is Deano also taking the time to prepare?

"Hey guys, I just got my ass beat in SMX because it has the full field of 250s.  I've decided to go back to focusing on the Series' that have less competition where I'm more likely to be a top guy."

Looks like Deano is there so I'm calling BS on Antsie needing time to prepare or it being a team deal...I mean he's had since the beginning of July to prepare for SMX but he now need's more time to get ready for WSX in 10 weeks....🤷‍♂️ sounds fishy....

Yah sounds like there is more to it. An injury? Did they change any of the parts they are using ?  Bummer to see him not out there. I'm glad that Wilson is still going to be out there. If the team itself was not going to be there, it  might not sound so fishy. But if they are already going to be there, it can't cost that much more for them to support him in the race. And its still better pay than sitting at home would be even if that's as good as he gets. Maybe he feels like the tracks are too different from a full on SX track ,and feels like it would set him back for SX if hes been riding SX all summer.

He’s also racing the Australian SX championships that start in a couple of weeks.

Did you read the whole message?  Australian SX series (not the Australian round of WSX) starts in a few weeks and he’s racing that as well as WSX.

The Team is owned by an Australian, so maybe  the team owner wants Max to do better in that series?

I don’t know, ask Max.  Maybe he’s on a contract?  Maybe it does pay better?  Maybe he only ever planned on riding the first SMX round?

I’m going to assume that he’s doing what will net the biggest financial benefit for him.

Or maybe he just wants to prepare for the Aus SX series and doesn't want to continue with the SMX....

He's a big boy and can chose his own direction.

Lewis explained it without explaining it in the Charlotte Race Podcast. Max was caught a little off guard with it not being as much supercross as originally thought.

I thought Max had a chance to win if it was muddy, I'm a little surprised, too.

It actually does if your contract pays you to race WSX and Aus X….. Nothing fishy about focusing on what you get paid to race for. Should ama supercross riders get bagged on for not racing wsx and aus x? 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ I would hope not.

Yah I know, there has to be more to it I would think.  Racing the SMX races  would give him some gate drops and real racing practice. I've never ridden a full on SX track, so I don't have any first hand feel for how differnt SMX might be from SX. So maybe Max feels like its different enough that it will not help him get ready and he is a title contender in his class. Dean  is a great rider, but I don't think he is a title contender in the 450 class. And Dean has been riding SX for a longer time than Max has , so maybe its easier for him to jump back and forth?

I think racing would only help him , he took the summer off so he's not going to be burnt out, It would be good to warm up and get the nerves out of starting a season. And he would make decent money doing it. But hey if he doesn't want to race SMX , it will give another rider a chance to race that wants to. Seems like there could be more to it, but who knows.

Max, I’ve been a fan for years but this is weak. You talked incessantly about how pumped you were to race 250 SX and qualify for SMX. At least be straight up with us. And yes, the SMX tracks have some MX in them.
