I grew up in Australia in the 90s early 2000s watching these tight indoor races, but watching the sport evolve Australia tracks should be better then this for a round one Supercross

look like Arenacross round

Just speculating here…

Other than a couple of international riders and a handful of top locals, there probably isn’t enough experienced SX riders to fill a gate for a full sized SX track.

Ironically this is being held on an Australian football stadium field which is huge compared to a baseball or NFL sized field.

I think it’s at the entertainment centre?

Could be.  The WSX website says Marvel Stadium but I could be looking at the wrong thing.

Why are the measurements for an Aussie track in feet?

9/13/2023 10:40pm

I have been watching a lot of the 90's and 00's Aussie sx masters on YouTube lately,

these tight tracks can produce some cool racing,

The original Sydney Entertainment Center tracks  of the 80s would have been lucky to be the size of 2 Tennis courts.

I'm Not kidding!

When I think back to it, Phil's line of "Deathcross", would have been quite applicable.

You'd see the mechanics / riders click their bikes into gear just before the off, and remove the gearlever, as no gear changes were needed, and, in the insanely close racing, you'd have less chance of contact changing the gear on you.

During breaks / delays, spectators getting a bit fed up, would make Paper Planes from whatever promo guff given out, and, at times, you'd be lucky to see the dirt of the track. The promoters got quite Stroppy about that.

The first OZ SXs I went to were at the Sydney Showground. That was an Enormous track by comparison. Jimmy Weinert, Marty Smith, and Rex Staten (who had terrible trouble with the wind blowing his hands off the bars, mid air.......) were the 3 main US riders I can recall,  at those.  Marty Tripes, I think, at one?

We mainly got Mike 'Mad Dog' Jones at the Ent Cent, and a couple of other US riders each year.  Guy Cooper thoroughly entertained everyone in his appearances there.

I can't recall if Marty Moates did the Ent Cent in the seasons he was based here in OZ - or, if indeed there were many SXs in OZ when he was here?

Those 80s entertainment centre races, as tiny as they were, kickstarted my love of supercross. I’d only ever seen and ridden motocross at that stage and thought it was so awesome 😂

Helped that it was on tv every Saturday on Wide World of Sports. Other than Mad Mike, I remember Jo Jo Keller as a regular visitor, then later Eddie Warrren, who moved to Australia. I’m sure there were others….. But it was cool seeing our home town heroes mixing it with those guys.

Years later I remember Reedy beating everyone as a 16yo on a RM250, there were a few people who weren’t happy 🤣

They were mad times saw Jo Jo Keller ( they did like 4 LCQ to get him in the main lol ) Eddie warren the American Express top bloke met him a few times. Doug Dubach at chandler vella drome Jason upshaw famous for his LA coliseum crash at Tivoli raceway jump so big of a single it buckled his front wheel….   The 80’s scene was so good in Australia we had national and state sx championships. Sydney they even flew out Doug Domokis the wheelie king and last but not least Flash Gordie ware and his heal klickere crowed went nuts when he did them.

Thank you! I’d forgotten so much of that, but yeah that’s it, the Aussie scene was huge during that period. Dr D was a regular visitor, even remember seeing Lamson at Tivoli. What the hell happened?

I recall going to a supercross race in Adelaide in the mid-late ‘90’s.

Can’t recall if the American rider was Eddie Warren or Mike Jones.  I’m thinking the top locals were Tom Carroll, Craig Carmichael and maybe Danny Ham?

I have no idea I left Australia in Jan 91 to live in Europe. When I left it was huge… I had an amazing childhood racing I did Bondal entertainment center coffsharbour, Newcastle, acherfeild, Dalby. Rockhampton, Townsville, Chandler Vello Drome, Gold Coast trots track, sure there are some I forgot.

we had the JMCCA and Acu was an incredible scene tracks everywhere that are all gone now to housing development.

i moved to Switzerland and my dad got me a full ride with KTM in 1991 I ride the white bike and walk away from the sport looking back I should have taken the offer lol but I was a stubborn shite and wanted a Suzuki ride that never happened.

It's at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, for you Americans, here's a size comparison with the Angel stadium...

It's big enough for a basketball court!

At least they got the first corner right this time. Soooo many times the aus sx guys have completely jacked that up for some reason.

Be happy you've a Outdoor en Indoor championship, brads Tongue.
The Frenchies learn their trade also at (mostly) small tracks.
