Concrete barriers? This just doesn't seem very thought out. I know we're trying to change up the sport and grow it but this just seems silly to me. There's gotta be better venues to build a track on than a drag strip like this. How much would I cost to erect your own bleachers and build the track in an open field somewhere? Just spitballing.

Surely they’ll have sufficient padding on them come Saturday.

TP199 thinking about coming back and doing backflips off the barriers while racing! Woot!

I know the track and area pretty well since I lived there and gone to NASCA Flat Track and USGP races there (not dragstrip) and where I suspected the Pro will call to be probably isn't where it will be at all.

The Charlotte Fair is going on all of this week till Sunday and that entrance is where I thought the will call would be located. Also explains where the concert might be. Im guessing inside the dirt track.

There is going to be Lots of other stuff to see while at the race!

BTW if you have never been here before find time to do a tour of the Nascar teams shops. Shocking everything they do and technology they have.

The GP was originally to be built on the drag strip but it was moved up to the dirt track.

I'm excited to see this SMX thing get started, but agree 100% this looks pretty sketchy 😳

They'll pad it with a thin layer of Monster Energy vinyl.

SMX has been in the works for years. They've got this barrier stuff figured out.

They better have some good padding on those lane barriers....

Monster Energy?

Non-closer mindset. So much potential for new brand synergy on these awesome barriers:

Another angle I saw on Motors Addict.  It is a wider four lane drag strip.

I’m not entirely sure why everyone is so pressed over the barriers? The layout seems to make it when you cross over them that it’s a low speed section. No different than hitting whoops or a quad running along the sidelines of a stadium. Track is shaping up nicely.

I remember that mxgp track at the dirt track being kind of cool. Almost like a hybrid SX and MX track.

It's not really what's on the track, it's what's off the track, where there is not normally a head-on collision with  a concrete wall awaiting if you make a mistake.

It’s like you didn’t even read my post. Look at the sections where they’re crossing over the barriers. It’s all lower speed areas, like coming right out of a corner for example.

I did, and I don't see the head-on issue addressed.

I don’t see how there any more potential head on collisions with a wall vs. a typical SX or AX track  the outer walls, a tunnel/flagging tower, etc. all the fast sections are running parallel with the barriers.

It doesn't matter whether a "fast section" or not. What is different is that there are head on collisions with walls right there on every section of the infield.

I thought this was supposed to be a hybrid supercross/motocross track.  Where's the motocross portion?  Elevation changes, natural terrrain, off cambers?

Well I completely disagree. I think if you’re coming out a corner in first gear going over one of the barriers is a bit different than crossing over a barrier mid rhythm section in 3rd. I’m sorry but I’m failing to see what’s inherently more dangerous on this vs. any other SX track.

What gear would you prefer to be accelerating into that wall with?
