What time does deegan race again?
I call it like I see it. Don't worry it won't be long until there's more drama with him again. I'll look forward to you and the clan to be back here defending him like you have for years.
My takeaway is that was one of the most athletic, stylish dismounts I’ve ever seen 😂
I’m here for the Deegan show and the drama/entertainment they bring, good and bad.
Not being a fan does not make you a hater....but he is correct about your posting history...

I take it you've never worked construction?
Lol...I have...and the oil patch...and lots of physical labor jobs. I've seen guys lose their shit and damage equipment and actually hurt co-workers.
Hell, I've done it myself.
But...it is childish behavior.
I have and it was definitely not my wheelhouse lol
As a former (small) race team and sponsorship coordinator, I'll give you my take:
Deegan's actions imply that he is dissatisfied with his Yamaha. You can imagine him calling it a piece of shit or something along those lines while kicking it. Does that make the casual observer want to go out and buy a blue bike?
Don't forget, there is only one reason Yamaha pays Deegan one single red cent for anything he does. It's not because he has a YouTube channel, or because he's fast, or because he garners attention on the track, or even because he wins races. No, although those factors weigh in on his hirability, the one and ONLY reason Yamaha pays him is because they believe he sells Yamaha motorcycles. Directly or indirectly, now or in the future, they believe that their large investment in him will bring financial rewards to the company. Any actions or statements in conflict with that end are not welcomed and possibly detrimental to his career.
I haven't heard anything about Haiden getting yelled at or penalized, but I'm sure someone reminded him that he's supposed to show the Yamaha in the best light possible. (That goes for all his other sponsors, too.)
I wish I had said it so succinctly.
For anyone who missed it on RDL this morning, all three commentators (Weege, RC, & Will) all said they were in favor of Deegan's display of frustration when his bike quit last weekend. They all mentioned that it shows Deegan's passion to win and that's a positive thing to see in a racer. They also mentioned that Team Star Yamaha was also in alignment with this, and they welcomed Deegan's display of emotions.
With them all in favor including the team, I'd say all the haters in this thread are currently eating a warm plate of crow.
Not a hater, but I guarantee you that nobody at Yamaha, or at Star Racing, or at Monster Energy feels that way. Did they say that? Oh, sure. I believe that 100%. It's called putting a positive spin on a bad situation. They are doing their best to sweep Deegan's temper tantrum under the rug.
Of course, we all understand how he felt in the moment, and nobody is really blaming Haiden for being upset when a mechanical DNF cost him the 250 National Championship. But think about that for a moment: A Yamaha motorcycle broke, and you could easily argue that it was THE thing which cost Haiden Deegan a National MX title. If you were the marketing manager whose job it was to sell YZs, would you rather have people's impression of your product be a smiling racer who loves his blue bike, or a pissed off guy, who could have won the whole thing if it wasn't for his POS broken machine, kicking it and tossing it off the track in disgust?
Guys, this is very, very simple. In fact, I'm sure there is language in every factory rider's contract which reads something to the extent of, "Show the brand and the team in the best possible light." Although understandably upset, Deegan did not do that.
Actually...Ricky said,"Could have done without the bike kick" but he and the others did approve of the emotions.
So how come Hunters mech DNF and crash DNF hasn't cost him a title? It's about the rebound and consistency from these incidents.
I am "this close" to lumping Deegan into the Barcia category of admiration.
Mad skills but not the greatest thought control.
Deegan is a baby so I do give him a lot of latitude.
Barcia is no baby but damn...he sure acts like one at times.
I am still firmly rooting for the Dangerous boy. I still root for Justin. I'm conflicted fellas. Oh well...think I'll have some pizza and a beer. Maybe check my sprocket bolts.
Don't shoot the messenger, go watch it yourself.
He's not wrong. Most of the talking heads said his reactions were ok.
I say...showing his monumental disappointment could have been better served without the bike abuse or helmet toss.
I watched 2 little bittys yesterday at the track...throwing their bikes and gear around after getting spanked. It's not a good look. Passion doesn't have to be expressed this way.
A bad look in my opinion would be Deegan sitting out MXDN…
I agree. If you're gonna play that hand...play it till ya bust.
Pit Row
You misunderstood my point. Like I said, of course they're going to spin it in a good way. Weege, RC and Will can have the luxury of liking the passion, and Star Racing may certainly say they like it too. I'd be willing to bet my bottom dollar they would prefer if he showed it by venting his frustrations elsewhere than on their motorcycle, however.
There's a reason you don't hear racers say, "I lost because the other guy's bike is faster. Mine's a piece of shit." (At least not factory racers.)
Oh, for sure. And if Deegan had somehow won the title, it almost certainly would have been by fewer than 25 points. Therefore, it would have been precisely because of one of those motos. (Take your pick which one, but had the motor not let go, he'd have more points.)
My point is that you didn't hear Hunter saying or implying anything along the lines of "This Honda is a pile of shit." He maintained a level of professionalism that in no way deters young kids from wanting to buy a Honda. Haiden's actions were less professional. I don't hate the kid, and I also admire his passion. He'll learn from this and I doubt he'll ever do it again.
No dog in this fight, could care less. Wouldn't change my mind if I was buying a new bike and had decided to buy Yamaha before this incident. What I will say is that you won't find me ghost riding and kicking my bike after it blows up mid moto because I work hard to afford my hobbies and also do all of my maintenance. Neither of which Haiden has ever had to do. Not making excuses for him but that's what heartbreak looks like when you don't have anything invested in your equipment. Money or time. Definitely not condemning him, just my thoughts on why he reacted like he did.
In my early days working like mechanic for BMW ( back in the 80s ) I used throw wrench cross the shop when things went wrong. What Deegan did , totally normal and understandable ! Is nice to see young kid to be committed like that !
I understand what you are trying to say, and I understand both sides of this. But not all incidents should be analyzed based on the situation:
1. The kid is 17
2. He was in a very close championship hunt that most would agree he should not be a part of as a rookie
3. He was absolutely hauling ass and reeling in the points leader, just in front of him
4. He was experiencing the championship come to him during each second he chipped away between him and Hunter
5. This is the first outburst of emotions we've seen from Deegan in the pro ranks, and his frustration was very justified
With that said, I don't have a problem with what he did in this situation, nor do any of the commentators or Team Yamaha. However, if this behavior continues over the years and becomes a pattern, then yes it won't be a favorable look.
Regardless of what side you are on, I think we all got robbed with that motor blowing up. We were just about to see some serious fireworks considering I would have expected to see Hunter put up a fight. I think they would have really gone at it considering the championship on the line, and it would have been great to watch. One of them would have likely gone down, or maybe both going down and possibly resulting in a scuffle? Unfortunately, we'll never know.
Unless that wrench you tossed hit someone in the face. See how this goes from nothing to a big deal real quick?
That is the difference between grown-up and childish behavior.
It's not exacly something that would make me gain respect for my co-worker when they exhibit that type of behavior. The savages here will continue to justify it.
Ok, so now we need a gif master to make a gif that the kid tips over (on a perfectly working Yamaha) and the Yamaha guys run over and kick him. LOL
Look....if I was his age...with the skill he has...omg. I dig this kid. I want him to be awesome. I want him to appeal to the Dungey fans. There is no real reason for someone with his talent/skill to play a character.
Once again i am placing my standards/expectations on someone else. I said I wouldn't do that. I guess I'm just weak and human.
You guys are lame, get a new hobby besides obsessing over a 17 year old. It’s getting creepy.
go chat with your counselor…there’s some deep insecurities under the surface
To the extent Yamaha is worried about this incident costing them sales, don't ya think that about 99% of that concern is their bike blowing up for all to see? Not being pissed at the bike after that would just be weird and disingenuous. You don't go around acting like that's normal and no big deal unless you want people to think it's normal and no big deal to them that the bike takes a shit.
I give him a hard pass because he's a kid. Not really sure that he will be different in the future as he grew up watching his dad make many millions by being a nonconformist. Like him or not, the kids got insane skills and intensity. You have to admire that. Even if you're "a natural" you don't get to his level without a LOT of work and dedication.
