Seems like his body fat% is up a little bit more than when he entered the '08 season after training with Aldon. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because I've always had a high metabolism and I always felt much stronger when I had a layer of fat on me.

He's sporting the cross though! Apparently he has been reading the Bible lately (from interviews I've read). I wonder if we'll hear any Jesus thanks on the podium this year? Smile

There was another thread on this... Whats wrong with it? Nothing behind closed doors but saying that spiel televised and on the podium brings down the professionalism of the sport and makes the sport appear so redneck. You can't really dispute this unless your presuming everyone watching is Christian, which of course they aren't, hence it comes across inbred to millions of people around the world...

Why do you think you don't hear that stuff in F1? Because they are consummate professionals.

Back on topic... Hurry up A1!!

I really hope you are just fishing if not maybe this make you stfu

i really can't think of many sports that they don't thank god. NBA, PGA, ATP, MLB, and NFL players all thank god at a very high rate.

Take it a step farther and watch an awards show. Most winners start with thanking god. Why do you think so many that thank god are successful?

You must really not watch sports if you believe what you are saying. Most teams pray together before games and both teams pray together after a game.

After receiving an award, and thanking God in his acceptance speech, Sammy Davis Jr. (a practicing Jew) was asked what that was all about. He replied, "That's just a Black thing".

Not sure what that meant, TerryB. Jews were amongst the first monotheistic God worshipers. In fact, most of the major world religions are.

Is it just me, or does anybody else like the fact that the pastor giving the invocation at the Daytona 500 each year closes with "amen and shalom"?

Finally, yeah, Dungey has been one of the antagonists in this whole thing by simply over-doing it. Nothing wrong with it as part of your podium prattle, but it's unlikely God was twisting your throttle, keeping your suspension from sagging, or making sure your valve train stayed intact.

Meant nothing more than, though Sammy was a practitioner, he claims that the token "thanks" to God was more of a Black cultural tradition.

Nope, it's a powerband monitor. It buzzes him as the powerband is reached for maximum throttle control.

How so? A comedian would never make light of a cultural more?

Could it be that Sammy was deeper than all of us, since at the time, most african-americans who ever got a chance to say thanks on a stage or podium were Baptists and he was one of the few black entertainers of another faith who finally got a chance to say thanks.

Never thought of that quote quite that way.

Well, duh! You're real sharp. Does that mean there's not a little truth to the statement? If you don't think so, I'd say you have to expand your social circle and experience other cultures.

I'm guessing it's a cultural thing that stems from the strong Baptist influence. I've got two friends (both Black) who were laughing about this very thing with me. That's what they said "It's kind of a Black thing, whether you're religious or not."

If James, or any other professional sports figure for that matter, wants to thank God/Jesus after success, I think it's great (I'd be doing the same thing). I'd bet they also gives thanks for just having a safe race regardless of the result. It has always been my understanding that these professionals are not necessarily giving thanks for a win(I don't think God cares about winning/losing) but rather giving thanks for their awesome ability to race a motorcycle and achieve success in addition to a safe race. No its what I think - sorry. Presume your Christian, my mum is too, she used to drag me to church the whole way through my childhood. I think shes deluded. Bless her.

I actually wonder if its more a cultural thing too, more an American thing generally, I haven't seen coverage of any of the sports you mentioned.. I'm British we get more football, rugby, F1 etc, but can tell you we rarely hear the kind of stuff Dungey comes out with on BBC/ITV sports coverage, I can't remember ever noticing it. Maybe I've just blocked it from my mind. But its not as common at all.

I also think thats why you struggle to see why I think its absurd, maybe its generally more normal and accepted out there. In my opinion, and the way some of the racers say it - (with the same dull, robotic enthusiasm they have about their tires 'hooking up') - it just looks bad/weird/silly to me and I expect for most people that aren't Christian.

And as a 'pro', I dont think its wise to go there. Respect everyones free speech, but time and place.. I want to think you are cool, you kick ass on your bike, you rule, now don't alienate me with that spiel! What if I'm Muslim? I'm never gonna buy your signature goggles now am I?

"Why do you think so many that thank god are successful?" Please do tell me! :-)

And had Schumacher ranted about God I think it would have really cheapened his image and aura of professionalism. They know where to draw the line.
