It’s a great story of sacrifice and risk that paid off big.  That is awesome for them….but okay…I don’t need to hear it every interview and race.  We know the story.  Move on now.  I’ve seen privateers in the back of an old van, that barely runs, heating Top Ramen over a single burner camping stove….still chasing the dream.  That’s the allure of our sport for some….it’s a sickness really. lol. Congrats to Jett and family.  It’s a great story…but now you are multi-millionaires so maybe that story has been told enough now.

NBC just did a feature on it during the main show this week… the story sells because they’re on top so they keep getting asked for another sound bite with basically the same questions.

At least their story is consistent I guess. I do agree it’s kinda tired. Their old man was just talking about Jett’s new Ferrari on the broadcast too… time to move on.

This whole narrative is the Craig family saga for outdoors. Wait til SX, this'll be a storyline.

As the No1 member of the "cult".

NBC, WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

There is plenty of other "cult" stories that you could tell, hard work, great people around them, never giving up........

Jett just won the 450 title. I know its getting old to hear about them all the time. But it seems like an appropriate time to reflect on how they got to where they are.  A rookie , winning the 450 title and possible a perfect season.  Its hard not to talk about them risking it all, and it starting to payoff.  Hopefully its just the start for them.

I do get tired of all the Lawrence talk, even as a fan. But I just look at something else when they replay something I saw during the practice show , or I'm not interested in. I think that after Hunter moves up . It will not feel like so much Lawrence talk . But now they are both winning their classes. The 2 classes of racing so its gonna be what You hear.

It's really simple. They pushed all in for mx, took the gamble, put in the work, and it paid off.

Seems to me like Haiden can’t formulate his own thought and just regurgitates what he’s heard Brian or someone else say. It’s more apparent in interviews with serious questions, he seems to struggle to answer and uses a lot of “hunh hunh” laughs as filler. It’s like instead of just answering, he’s searching for the answer Brian would want him to give. I really hope to see Haiden come into his own and be his own person, but for now he comes across as trying to be the “character” Brian wants him to be as opposed to just being real. I don’t know them and I’m likely wrong, but that’s my opinion just from watching races/interviews.

Haiden drawing inspiration from sex traffickers (Andrew Tate) and his constant “American Boy” dog whistles aren’t gaining him any fans either.

Is the title statement layered or something like a double entendre? Is Hunter saying that Deegan (and the field I guess but let’s be honest it’s mostly directed at Deegan) isn’t applying pressure like he may think he is, while also calling him a soy boy that had his opportunities handed to him?

No doubt Deegan has put in the work but would he be where he’s at right now if his dad wasn’t who he is and didn’t pick up a camera and start filming his kid from a young age to build a following? Is Hunter just a fivehead Aussie intellect taking well phrased shots at his competition right in front of our eyes without anyone even realizing it?

Idk man I think Hunter is showing Deegan it’s a man’s game on the track and in his interviews. The reverse psychology on the kid sure seemed like it worked in New York…

Hunter is so subtle most people miss it, Way above the deganites heads.

Yea…the repeat of almost the exact same words of I’m just a rookie…learning year…doesn’t matter….seams like someone told him to say it just like that.  In the Danger boy hype people don’t realize Justin Cooper has been faster and more consistent most of the season. JC is 14 points ahead of Deegan despite missing 2 motos to Deegan’s 1.  That’s essentially like being about 34-36 points ahead….yet Deegan is talked about MXDN while JC, who came through before, is hardly mentioned.  Hype is one thing but when the numbers tell the true story then look at the damn numbers.

add…I forgot the wedding thing so JC can’t do MXDN but my point holds on the hype vs the numbers.

It’s common knowlege that J Coop is getting married at the mxdn weekend and can’t be there.

And Deegan has two overall wins this season, how many has J Coop?

Points matter and JC’s average finish position is better then Deegans.

That would be a fair point for the 450 title…but the quote that is the title of the thread is not from that.  It is Hunter..and the story has been repeated and repeated aaalllllll year.

…and previous years…

Any kid who gets to ride motocross is privileged. So whatever this cracker is talking about is loco. Maybe they bought thousands of dollars worth of dirt bike shit and couldn’t afford food. That I would believe. My parents went into debt so I could ride AND eat 🤯

My interpretation of Hunter’s comment is this - real pressure comes from facing difficult life situations, not from the expectation that you are going to win a motorbike race.

These guys are all in the envious position of being paid to participate in a sporting event.  If Hunter has the presence of mind to know and understand the difference between that and the real life struggles that many people face, it puts him in a highly advantageous mental state vs anyone else.

Takes a risk and it paid off so they are ahead of most people doing the same thing. There’s starving kids in my town with hard working parents let alone Africa so what’s your point? Like that makes their family special because they made sacrifices? Welcome to pretty much every family in the world. They made it, they are wealthy. They can buy food now. Kudos to them, no one’s trying to not acknowledge their struggle.

Every inspirational athlete has some rags to riches story which I get feels played out for some folks, but to your point there’s a lot of families out there that have tried and failed, or are still stuck and they’re increasing every day. So isn’t it worth your 30 seconds of inconvenience so that any kids, or new parents like myself can have a little hope?

swordfish wrote:

I’ve spent more that 30 seconds talking about their dream. I think it’s great. I commend them for taking the chance and it paying off. No problem. Would not be a risk I would take for my kid. They can have more than one dream or aspiration in their lifetime. My point was that most know their history, we get it. If they wanna keep making it a point that’s great. I don’t care about it anymore. I’m in the middle of my own family life crisis that I deal with every day and don’t advertise it to make a point.
Being a new parent I wish you all the best and hope you make the right decisions for yourself and your family whatever they may be. Life is a series of triumphs and tragedies.

You've obviously missed the context of the whole situation Haiden was trying to get in Hunter's head by saying he's now under pressure cause the 'rookie' is winning the races he should be.. The point was brought up on the podium and Hunter said something along the lines of 'Nah I choose to do this this is fun, pressure was when my family couldn't eat' then walked off.. Pretty hard to not respond to a question asked and to reply in kind to a born millionaire trash talking..

I'm 100% not hating on Haiden and the Deegan's having the money they've earned

The world would be amazing if we had more parents like the Lawrence’s the chase their children’s dreams…. Not just passing an iDevice in their faces as a babysitter and just letting the kids tag along to whatever the parent wants to do.. you chose to have kids then live their best lives and do what it takes to achieve it.
