I just snagged this Gem for $2400. Sat in a barn for 19 years. Put forks seals and shock seal head in it and it was ready to go. No seized spokes or anything. It had less than 5 hours on it for sure. The clutch cover wear was all from me. My perfect woods ride! My cousin has a 2022, only really difference in feel is mine vibrates less. This was just woods though. Didnt compare on the track but i would imagine nothing earth shattering. I put seat cover, my bars, handguards and tires on it.20230218 103818.jpg?VersionId=sex

What skid plate is that on your bike?

Great find!

It's a devol plate. It was on there already when i got it. Not sure if they still have the same style but this one is kind of a piece of junk if im being honest. Im going to do frame tabs, the mounting hardware it uses leaves a lot to be desired. I was looking at other options, but i think im just going to make my own to fit with the frame tabs.

YZ250,s can have worn 3rd gear and shift forks. That's the weakest link.

Yeah, but don't open it up and fix it because they are better unopened.

Most people just don't buy enough parts when 3rd gear goes. It's been a few years since I rebuilt a YZ transmission so I don't remember it all off the top of my head, but there's a list in a thumpertalk thread somewhere that goes over all the parts required to be good as new. Can't just buy 3rd and a fork, I know that much.

My 2016 YZ transmission rebuild was somewhere around 120-130 hours and it was as good as new after I did it.

I "accidentally" won a clean 2014 YZ250 on eBay for 3100$. I agree with you guys though, the used bike prices are still in covid land.

They've crashed and are swiftly returning to normal in the UK. Hopefully it'll follow suit over there and we'll all be back to a good, cheap, abundance of two strokes 🤣

I was just quoted $10,300 OTD for a 2023 YZ250. At that price, I’m looking at a different bike. As much as I want another YZ250, that price seems a bit ridiculous.

Brutal.

What do you mean by that? I just did a full OEM top end kit (C group) and didnt do any of that. What are you measuring and leak down testing on a simple piston/ring replacement? I did get the mic. out and my crankshaft is in like-new spec lolSmile

You should be checking for the correct sized piston (they typically come in 2 or 3 'stock' sizes before you get into +/overbore sizes to allow for different cylinder castings/batches).

Then you should be measuring the ring gap and adjusting it to within spec (check your manual/Google for a specific number/range) if necessary.

Hmm... I ordered the right piston for the cylinder, but I did not get real specific with the ring gap. I just installed it and it all felt really smooth. Fit like a glove. Everything went together great and the bike runs great. Would you pull the engine apart to look at this or just check it next time? I kind of find it hard to believe that the guys custom fit the rings as they were building it in the factory.

ring end gap should be checked anytime a new ring is introduced into a cylinder, pretty much in anything. It should be something you just do and not assume it's right. Some rings cannot be filed due to some platings. But you should check the gap in any case.

I have a brand new never ridden 2014 that’s never had gas in it I’d let go for $6000 if anyone’s interested.

Haha, no need for that. Let me know as soon as you have a price and I'll spread the word!
