I would think there’s a few that don’t live at a training facility necessarily, but would guess almost all top ten have a trainer they ride with at least a few times a week. The game has been upped so much it seems that’s the way it is now. I’d think the kid you described either doesn’t exist anymore or is super rare. I do question if it’s the best way for the US kids to not suffer burn out from a sport they once considered fun? But to each their own.
Steven Green in the 65 7-9 class. He's a local kid from MD and goes pretty good! Keep an eye out for him.
Pretty rare these days, maybe 5%
Brody Barth from WI might be able to get into top 5 in super mini 1 & 2. He’s had moto podiums there before but has been off the bike a lot this year. Goes to local school and lives in WI so has to deal with no winter riding. Deegan VanVreedee is in same boat in 125 b/c, a top 10 moto would be a great result, he’s riding great but not sure if LL great

Kind of how everything is going these days. 5-6 year old kids play soccer 6+ days a week as well so if you want to be good at something you need to put in the time unless you're crazy gifted.
It seems like a lot of it is centered around Fear of Missing Out. Congrats to all the trainers taking advantage of that, many of them with 5 or more riders must be banking. I personally think it's a little unnecessary, but I get each parent wants to give their kid the best shot.
Those days are long gone. All these kids are “home schooled” and ride 3-4 times a week at training facilities
And on ancient motorcycles, the only Kawi 65 there.
Hollinger on a PW is a local kid. He rides quite a bit but isn't a facility kid.
Brody got a 6th and a 7th so far. Jayce Wolff also from WI won a moto. His dad and brother run a training camp in WI so summertime only so not sure what you call that but consider it in the weekend warrior camp vs living at MTF or Club. Was also funny during announcing they actually were following Barth around and mentioned he was from the hot bed of WI, laughing it off when not realizing the leader was also from WI
That’s amazing since the riding season is short & starts very late. 2nd week in May gb had 6 inches farther north 20+ inches where most of the tracks r. Wi. Riders r usually the same at the Mini O,s 1 great moto 2nd to 6th then a 12th. They hv the speed but not the luck. Wyatt had both but living at Clud Mx burnt him out. Busse has 2nds on a super mini in Fl. I think he’s on a 125 full time now. Not sure if he,s at LL. Another Brody is winning a lot of motos at Millville. He had a top 5 at LL last yr. Not sure if he’s at LL. I feel like I just did 12 motos . 2 lane back rds in Ms. & La. R brutal. Fractured my wrist a couple weeks ago driving this pile.
Busse broke his arm while practicing in Tennessee last week 🤦♂️
He had potentially top 5 results in him
I lived in Ohio & went to public school when i went in 1987.
My son Logan Mortberg rides 2 nights a week after work. He is racing Supermini 1 and 2. He holds his own against the training facility kids.
Best of luck to your boy 👍

I thought I would see how a dad defines "holds his own..." Holy crap, a top five moto and sitting in fifth after 2 motos in s/mini1 is definitely holding his own. Congratulations to you and your son and finish the week strong (and safe). I will be cheering for him from the comfort of my home office.
Judging from his history (at the ranch), it looks like your son has been holding his own for a few years.
Thanks. We make the most of what we can afford to do. Appreciate all the positive comments!

Wishing your kid well, mate
Where did you come up with 5%
Got to love vital, people just pull numbers from their ass and make it up as they go.
It looks like yall hit some of the bigger races and do very well congrats! So I assume riding 2-3 times a week on a good week? Your kid is obviously very talented, how hard is it to keep a supermini under him? Is it just constant maintenance or is it saved for nationals and practicing/racing 125 on off weekends? Is he getting any kind of help? I always wondered what a top 10 kid can get sponsorship-wise after LL, I assume not free bikes, but maybe free gear and tires and some hard parts for the next year?
We have a 2021 KTM 105 for a practice Supermini and our race bike is a 22 KTM 112. We rode supermini until recently. He has put 6 hours on a 250 sxf. Our race bike is the same bike as last year and has almost 50 hours on it. We do try to hit the big races. We get very limited support. Mostly just discounts. We don’t get free bikes or gear, tires or anything like that. It would sure help but haven’t had much luck getting more support.
Wrong! From what i know, I’d guessing 60-75% of the top 10 live or occasional stay at a facility. While 10% of 11-42 use a facility.
Congratulations on the 3rd place finish in moto 3 of s/mini1
I came here to say same thing, thats awesome 💪
Thanks! One more to go in Supermini 2.
two top 5s, great job dad you must be proud
Killed it!
