Ok, long story short… I was at my local track, a hard packed, dusty place. First ride of the new year and my bike was just how I left it from last year. I believe traction control was set to the 2 position and I really didn’t pay it too much mind because I was just out play riding. Anyway, I come into a long, bowl corner. I turn down from the berm earlier than I had been all day (I was riding the berm all the way to the end). Again, I wasn’t going crazy or anything. So, my rear wheel begins to break loose and my instinct is that I’m just going to slide out. Next thing I know, the bike grabs and starts to pull and I begin to high side. It felt like I was holding onto one of those bulls in a country bar. The bike grabbed so hard that it threw me sideways with my knee out in front of me. Instead of my knee going under me and me landing on my side or shoulder, it sticks and I land on top of it. My leg became a 90 degree angle. Result: torn meniscus, MCL and ACL.
It all happened so quick, I was totally baffled as to what happened. I’ve tried to play back in my mind and what happened because I never experienced something so unpredictable before. The only thing I can think of is that TC had everything to do with this. Has this happened before to anyone? Is traction control this sketchy and touchy?
I know rider error played a role in this as well, but the grab and toss has never happened to me before..

Did you have the Traction Control turned on or were you just in Map 2?
I dont want bikes or cars correcting my mistakes cuz it may overide or mess up my own correction
Traction control was on, I believe the second setting. I was experimenting with it last fall (actually I only wanted to see what it does) and I had just left it there for this ride.
Yeah, that’s how I feel now! It was nothing more than a routine slide out and then the next thing you know, I’m holding my leg crawling to the side.

I'm assuming your talking an Austrian bike and don't they have 2 map settings AND a Traction Control setting?
Was the TC on the bars lighted up?
A 21 crf450. It has three settings for traction control as well as three engine maps.
Sorry to hear about your knee, hopefully the surgery goes well... my son went through this right in the middle senior high! He made it through.
Don't forget, the traction control on MX austrian bikes isn't really traction control where the bike senses wheel spin.... when you select TC, it just loads a slower map in each gear, with most power backed off in 1st and not much backed of in 5th... at least, that is what I was lead to believe.

He's pretty good MX rider but goofed his knee skiing of all things. Keeping off the bike until the trails open in October, then after few trial rides back to MX.... only bummer hes good at volleyball, so that got derailed. Got his guitar skills down during past op as well lol.

I really doubt the traction control caused the crash. I don't think it's that effective. Then again, I don't have a lot of experience on T.C. bikes.

Same for CRF, just three maps with limited engine acceleration values, no actual wheelspin detection or anything.
I also have had this happen on Hard Pack. IMHO it says more about the hard conditions, towards blue grove where the tire is breaking loose one sec and grabbing full hookup (nearly) on that hard clay, it’s like pavement.
When losing traction initially, that tire is slicking off the thin layer of dust until it hooks up, it’s sudden, the question is does the TC make this worse? Great question.
I also have a 21 CRF450 and use the TC… FWIW I use TC 1 or NONE, if Mud 2 or 3.
Didnt read all the replies, but, BUT! If you haven't ridden since last fall, i would put my money on you were rusty and ran out of talent, got caught by a high side. Shit happens. Dont think the bike settings had anything to do with it. And to be clear, this is how i would feel if i were in your position. Good luck in your recovery, hope you heal fast
