Washougal Nationals 2023 Questions, 1st time going!

Hey everyone,

Wife surprised me with tickets for Washougal next weekend and I have never been to a motocross race before.  Tried to find some info on their website and online but couldn’t find any recent info.  Any help is much appreciated!

1.  Can you bring in backpacks with water and snacks and sunscreen?

2.  Are the beer and food concessions cash only or do they take CC?

3.  How dusty is it?  The races on TV don’t look that bad…

4.  Is getting in and out as bad as it seems?  We are staying in Camas for the weekend and guessing 1.5 hours in and 1.5 hours out…is that a safe bet for Saturday?  What about Friday?

thank you!

If you are in a position to ride a motorcycle in then it's not too bad getting in and out.  In a car it's a multi-hour experience.

Washougal is awesome.  We always have our chairs set up on the hill in between horsepower hill and the big downhill before the s-turn.  I do a lot of walking throughout the day - probably the best way to really see everything.

Get an elephant ear and shishkabob, walk into the infield beer tent on the side of the wall jump in some shade and have yourself a day. Don’t rush to get out, hang at the car for awhile then leave. The line to get in last year was ridiculous for some reason so maybe get there early?

I went there once and really liked it. Venture up the hill and way over west, toward the end of the lap... you can usually grab a great, shady spot in the trees. Can't see the whole track, but you can get a different perspective.

If you’re in the area hit up PIR Thursday night. Great people watching and the pro class is always a good race

I've been once and I thought it was an amazing place. Make sure between "timedqualifyingpractice" and the motos you walk around the whole layout. There are many many cool places to stand for a lap or two and take in the place and the action.

Getting in is easy. Def not 90 mins.

Getting out can be slow, depends where you park. 90 mins is worst worst case, but could be possible. Wait until later then leave, won’t be as bad.

Asian food on other side of finish line(woods side) is rad.

make sure you wander to the top corner where the step up / table top is (upper left side of track by powerline) for 250/450 a group practice.  Big whips are likely from some guys.  kenny was the best, but he isn’t there

Make sure you get a Washougal 2023 pin from Ryan Huffman or someone in the vip tent.  It’s a nice Trinket and ralph huffman started doing them years ago.

couple of cool restaurants / breweries on the water  right there in town as well

I would say traffic starts really backing up at 7:00. We used to drive in same day, but now camp at the track. My advice is to get a real early start, When the gates open it is a steady stream of vehicles right at 6:00.

I go early and hang out at the track for a good long while after the races, I would rather be at the track than wait in the vehicle in a long line of traffic inching along.

Welcome to Washington 🍻

To your backroad comment..  It has been a while since I have been there for a national.  I swear the dirt road the track is on, had an "east" entrance (everyone is coming in from the west).  Is that what you are talking about?  Any more info on that 2023 style?

Side note, The Deegans were on my flight from Atlanta into Portland, cool to see them, nice guys.

This was my first Washougal National, around 1977.
Depicted here please find the Official Ms. Washougal Contest. These post-race classics ran until around 1982, things got a little out of hand and the contest has been cancelled to date.

My standard as a 30 year spectator is to arrive around 8am no later.
Another tip is to get near the exit gate for the final 450 moto. When the checkers fly start heading to your car and you’ll beat a ton of traffic out of there. Good luck and have a great time.

Thanks for the insights everyone.  We had a blast and getting from Camas AirBnB took just over an hour till we parked and had first beers in hand by 9:30am.  Left after 250 Moto 2 and hit no traffic.  The Shoug VIP wasn’t worth it (kudos to my wife and friend for surprising me tho) as we spent the whole day walking and wandering around the whole track and beer gardens.  Will definitely go back, and that Jett kid is like MM93 when he hit MotoGP…
