Fox Motion Boots Defective

Buy boots from a company that only makes boots so you know they will be good 

Buy some Gaerne boots. Idk why people let gear companies get away with these bonded sole craptasttoc boots that are made in China and sold at a hefty markup. 
 

even Gaerne’s most budget friendly boot is made in Italy. Can’t say enough good stuff about them. The truth is fox as been bought out by private equity, they are making gear as cheap as possible and selling for as high as possible in order to turn a profit. 

Wow, that is a bummer?! I have had a pair or two of FOX brand boots over the years (both pair were made by other companies & sold as a FOX brand tho!) and I don’t believe either pair would essentially “collapse” like that and pinch my foot?! That seems like a strange way for a pair of MX boots to flex to me!? Obviously you’d expect that with a running shoe etc but that definitely seems a little bit lacking in “protection” if ya ask me… I went out and checked the three pair of boots I currently have (all 3 pair are the same / but from a different brand!) none will flex to that degree and create a “pinch” like that!

Good luck sorting out a resolution with the boots! 😳 👍❗️

That’s shocking for a motocross boot. How can that provide any support on hard landings!?!? That looks like guaranteed broken metatarsals. 

I’m wearing Gaerne for the reasons you addressed.

Try contacting Fox directly. Chances are the defect wasn't communicated properly to them by your dealer.

I’ve had fox instincts for 3+ years. I went to send them off to replace the soles, but fox said they have discontinued the program.
 

I’ll be buying some tech 10s next year. 

Everyone knows fox boots are crap (now OP does too). When they first came out there was a photo of someone casing a jump and breaking both ankles.

Boots are the most important piece of protection next to a helmet. Proper enthusiasts wear a brand of helmet who just make helmets, and wear a brand of boots that just make boots.

Bought the first gen Instincts, even the slightest overjump hurt my ankles because they were so soft. I friend of mine just bought a couple of pairs of the updated model and they are pretty much still the same, i did shake my head when he told me he was gonna buy them.

Light and very comfortable boots but definitely not up to standard when it comes to protection, which is the most important thing with a boot.

 I’ve got tech 10’s and instinct 2.0’s, both do it. I don’t see AC or Roczen breaking their feet in the boots…

I made the switch from Instincts to Tech 10's. I have one ankle that will bother me here and there and decided to get a more protective boot. I couldn't be happier with the A-Stars

Lol to everyone saying they're going to buy Tech-10's, then someone posts a picture of them doing the same thing. I'll stick with my old fashioned sg-10's. 

Gaerne or Sidi if you value forefoot protection. Forma might be okay too, but I haven't tried them. I can confirm the Tech 10 will pinch your foot there too with your foot in the boot. I never noticed it while riding, but I noticed if my foot hit anything like a stump or log. It didn't take much contact to feel it. I smoked a stump about a month ago in a set of Atojos, and it hurt pretty bad for a minute but other than some bruising no other issues.

I’ve been disappointed with anything from Fox in recent times. Blown stitching, cheap materials etc. it’s sad as I had a couple sets of Fox gear around the early 2000’s that were very durable. Of course they’re not the only ones.

Whenever another one of these threads come up I just feel relieved that I decided to go with Gaernes

Im pretty sure when these came out Fox was marketing them as being really comfortable with good feel hence the name so maybe this is just the nature of the boots, probably awesome to ride in if I had to guess but maybe sketchy on big hits obviously. 

I love my Sidis I dont see how a boot could be anymore protective and still comfortable plus everything is replaceable I thought those Fox boots were cheaper but at $450 you can buy a set of Crossfires on sale. 

Fox is now part of a conglomeration of brands with Vista Outdoors. Coming from a standalone company, a lot of times mergers affect the original company's culture and product quality, and good people connected to the original culture leave.

I think this is a bit different. The only helmet companies common to our sport that actually make helmets themselves would be the Japanese brands Arai and shoei. Bell outsources the production to China but likely does all or most of the design work themselves.  
 

Fly and bell and suomy and others have shown you can make a good helmet by having a third party building to a designed spec, even if you don’t build the helmets, and even if those helmets are made in Asia. 

This! While not the end all be all, it’s my general philosophy for both helmets and boots.

Does the brand actually manufacture it themselves, conduct R&D and own/operate their own production facility? Or is their product white labeled by a huge manufacturing partner along with several other brands?

It’s a big reason I’m a Shoei and Sidi guy.

buy from the companies that specialize in one thing if you want the best safety product. 

I get the contempt for products that don’t work and the idea that a company should stand behind its products…but…just because a company makes “just helmets” or “just boots” certainly DOES NOT make them the best. 

I wear a helmet made by a company that was started by a sign-painter. They make helmets that are among the best and they, along with a coupl’a other companies like 6D, pushed helmet testing into the new millennium. 

My helmet is made by a company that makes superb riding gear including protective items like chest protectors, under garments with padding and I even wear their knee pads. 

I wear Troy Lee Designs. 

I work in composite material development and product design. “What” actually makes a good helmet…a good product…goes a lot farther than what type is product a company specializes in. It goes to the core of the company and its culture. 

Edit: Btw, you could come back and say,”Yeah, sure, Manny. WHATEVER! But, what boots do you wear?”

Answer: Gaerne. All they do is make boots! 😂

Vista bought Fox Racing from a private equity fund last year so even if they wanted to change the quality of the product it wouldn’t show untill somewhere next year. Also under Vista Bell came with good and new products so I wouldn’t say its all bad this take over.

Then you’ll be replacing soles every 20 hours and the toe box flexes as bad as Instincts.
