Unless you are in the top 1% of racers then be prepared to run same or better lap times and be less fatigued.  Sooo…look out for trying to get your buddies off their asses and back on the bikes for rounds 2,3,4,5…..

Linkage will have little to zero grease so disassemble completely, replace the chain guide and really the chain too before riding it at all.  Check all bolts carefully....and of course the vulcanized grips means you basically need new bars and grips unless they changed that grip setup.  

I went from a CRF450 down to an 21 kx250 and it’s one of the most impressive 250’s I’ve ever ridden. Forks are stiff, lowering the oil height helped some. There’s literally no grease on anything from the factory so go through and lube it up. Lower chain roller and guide will be junk in about 10 hours. The air filter is about 3 times too big for the hole they want you to fit it in but once you get a hang of it filter changes aren’t so bad. Just sucks you can’t run your finger around the whole thing to make sure it’s 100% seated. Other than that it handles great, brakes are great, the shock is damn near perfect and the engine is powerful and reliable. You will love it.

Ive rode a 21 kxf250 and felt it had more bark than a 20 rmz450... nice bike

if you wanna make that engine last as long as possible, run 10-60 Motorex.  Otherwise awesome bike.

Is the left grip vulcanized on? Lock on grips are $25. A Motion Pro throttle tube is $22.

congratulations!   There's nothing like new bike day.

Grease up the linkage and steering stem bearings when you get a chance.....Doesn't have to be right away....just try to get it done in the first 10-15 hours.   Get an hour meter.  The chain buffer lasts around 10-18 hours so it's not a huge deal to replace that right away.  I would get axle blocks from Works Connection to make it easier to line up the axle.  

on a side note.....the air filter removal and install is a bit tight.  Don't get frustrated on the first couple of changes....it gets easier as you learn the angles.  

Vulcanized grips can easily be taken off. Use a sharp knife to slice off most of the grip, then use a VERY light touch on a grinder with a fine wire wheel, and let it eat off the rubber (mark the bar with a sharpie where the grip stops). On the throttle tube, try to do it length-wise, hold the tube very tightly, and use a very light touch - too hard and the wire wheel will grab the tube, possibly damaging it. It's really very easy...or buy a Motion Pro throttle tube as was said above...

Congrats! They are an amazing bike. Like others have said, grease everything sooner than later, especially the steering head bearings on these.

Congrats on the new bike! Those are fun. Just grips chain guide and lube as stated.  You’ll love. Plus they look cool. 
 

however, speaking with your wallet on here is supposed to be about buying a new two stroke for all the die hard gas mixing junkies on here. So you basically spoke with your wallet against them 😂😂. All good though. I prefer 4-strokes and A new bike is a new bike.  

My new-to-motocross buddy has a 22 KX250.  He hasn't greased anything or changed anything with the bike (except rear tire).  His maintenance is meh....no hour meter.  He changes the oil "whenever."   The air filter gets changed every third or fourth ride.  It bugs the shit out of me because i change my shit every ride.  Anyhoo.....i would estimate that he has 50 hours on the bike.  It looks like it has been through a war because he barely washes the bike.  He has crashed several times and revs the bike instead of shifting.   The handlebar holders get twisted but they twist right back.  Not a single issue with the bike in all that time.  I have been impressed with the KX durability.

 Hahaha it IS supposed to be a “2-stroke” thing … BUT every guy here should buy, ride & love whatever bike they want! While I really enjoy riding my 2005 YZ smoker, I also let my wallet scream for a new YZ450F recently too!
