Must have missed it if it was already mentioned , I was just curious if they had diagnosed what caused the bike to fail .

I think the issue was it blew up.
Where there is smoke, there is fire…or at least very high intense friction.

They never say what actually happened for some reason.

One of the great mysteries. You're more likely to find out who shot JR.

It will be a 'bad batch' of something, but they wont say what, which throws all their suppliers under the bus.

Sometimes shit just breaks.

Bad piston, rod, bottom end, or other lubricated part = Honda's fault and people stop buying bikes. Can't have that.

Bad batch of engine oil = throws the oil sponsor under the bus and people stop buying. Can't have that. Same with the coolant.

Weird electronic gremlins in the mysterious black box, made and sealed up by space aliens = to be expected. Nobody can get mad about that; after all, electronics are ineffable and they are so complicated that it's no wonder an ECU breaks now and then.

For real. Frigging secrets. Still don't know if Jeffrey's footpeg broke, or the cotter pin got smashed, or the frame bracket cracked..or the footpeg pin. Frigging secrets.  No wonder we're a niche sport.

It was the Johnson rod. I was there. I saw it happen. When it blew, it took out some poor sap standing by the berm. Apparently he's ok, but will be permanently scarred on the port side of his face with a scar that looks like a Johnson rod.

Bad picture quality but this is from the broadcast. Looks to me like the front half moon portion of the valve cover gasket is blown out. Extreme crankcase pressure can cause this. I've seen a nitrous motor go lean melting a hole in a piston which then blew out every gasket on the motor including the dipstick.

Better quality than my first TV..

Looks like the motor has a black eye. Thanks for the info.

So will extreme pressure from exploding valve train parts.
