Hill 2010 X-Games preparation...

I remember that crash and Larry's thoughts on it.

Cant imagine he's thrilled with his guys doing freestyle stuff.

“Parents please tell your kids, “Racers should stick with racing and leave back flips to the Freestyle guys.” I’ve been trying to tell Josh this for weeks and he just wanted to show everyone that he could do a back flip in Speed & Style. Was it really worth it? Was anyone really going to be that pumped that he pulled a back flip? The risk was and is just way too high and for a guy that races motorcycles for a living, injury’s are just devastating to their career. I’m really bummed for Josh.

“Yes, I know he’s a kid and doesn’t always make the best decisions, but he is a really good kid and has huge talent racing motorcycles. Right now I’m a little upset at him and trust me I’m holding back not to say “I told you so”, but please don’t bash him too hard, he was just trying to do something spectacular for you guys?the fans.” -LB

Holy shit man...don't criticize anything Roczen...you'll invoke the wrath of the easily offended mob.  (See Kens bike thread)

I thought the same thing when I saw the vid of him doing that jump.   While very cool,  as a team leader paying salaries or sponsors, I'd be pissed.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Adam Bailey would be the ones to be perturbed

Timely thread. Wasn't this like 4 months ago? And then he won the following weekend? Yeah I'm sure Larry was just as perturbed about it as you.

Ken won Indianapolis a couple days after the jump. Don't think he was too mad about that..

If there is one thing the hardcore, old school, couch warriors hate, it's fun!

Oh, NO! Did Kenny go out and have fun on his dirt bike? Ohhhhh, the HORROR!

So, uh, no..yeah... Laughing

Pretty sure Larry's aware that his rider is known for hucking whips when he's out free-riding.

Everyone there including Roczen knew he could easily do that jump he just had to get his mind around the size of it. The tricky SX rhythms are much harder and more dangerous than that. As long as he at least cleared the knuckle any case is not as bad as casing stuff in SX which he has done thousands of times.

The only thing perturbed about this whole situation is my butthole watching Roczen case that landing on his first try. Jeeebus Christmas!

While this wasn't exactly Josh Hill territory, it took watermelon sized balls to huck that gap, especially considering all of the injuries Kenny has had. Colour me impressed. Dude just tucked in and went for it.  Wowza. Kenny can ride a dirt bike, no doubt about that.

I have wondered if he is perturbed he did not get me fired (as he threatened) when I made what HE THOUGHT was a derogatory comment about San Manuel Indian tribe?  Hahaha here I sit retired in Havasu drinking beers in my pool.  Oh, Larry Larry Larry good times.

Exactly! Folks don't want to deal with the details so they go where their emotions take them. Kind of like dealing with teenage girls.

Ya know, I’m gonna say,”No. You’re wrong.”

Pipes, a racer himself, knew enough…was smart enough…to go get Larry to help manage a team at this level…

Both Pipes and Larry are doing all the work needed..keeping all the people, parts, resources and all the minutia needed…and flowing property…thru 3 different race series…to keep Kenny and -BOTH- teams RACING competitively at the premier level of this sport.

At the very least, from my outside pov, they need each other equally. HEP changed their whole program to get Roczen on board. Who were they picking up if Roczen didn't come around?

It's probably a great relationship. Both sides' needs are being met and they seem to be working quite well together.

Doubt Brooks gives a shit about that jump.

Well, Travis has made a pretty good run of it. Has anyone that’s a “racer” out produced him?

Asking for a friend.

Yea but how many did he win BY doing a backflip? Zip zero yep one could say he would have won more had he not got into freak style. No disrespect, Travis was a huge contender. Loved watching him race

Uh, are you asking how much did he make by doing a back flip?

Do we start with the one he did into SF Bay?

Again, my point is Travis made more than any “racer” I can think of…doing flips all the way to the bank.

no one has won a world or national motocross championship by doing back flips. back flips don’t make you go faster is the meaning sorry. I’m speaking about motocross championships not money that is a different conversation yep

Every person I know remembers what they were doing at the time and that feeling watching it live when Travis landed the double back flip, no one remembers what was going on when Osborne or Anderson won a championship.
