What Bike Has Best Ergo's For Taller Riders

Are the stock mounts on a 23 the 31mm?

I was 6’2”.  I think they whittled me down with back surgery lol.  My Yamaha sets tall to me, but when I put my feet on the pegs I feel cramped.  

I set on a Kawi and it felt good. Set on a Honda and it felt even better which is why there is a 23 CRF250R in the garage.  
 

Measurements can be misleading. I have a 2017 Husky and despite having a tall seat, low pegs and bar clamps in the furthest forward position it feels like a mini bike. The sitting to standing transition is a struggle. When standing I feel like I’m teeter tottering on it.

I also have a 2017 TM with stock seat and pegs, it measures shorter in seat to peg distance but feels roomier. Maybe it’s just easier to grip with my legs, I don’t know, but the numbers don’t reflect what I’m feeling. The riding position feels natural.

I’m right at 6’ so I’m not sure if I qualify for the category of tall rider, but I wondered this myself as someone looking to buy his first brand new bike and being a little taller than the average rider. Seems like Kawi is the best option in that regard. 

I’m 6’ 5”, rode most of the new bikes and it’s the Kawi for me. I moved the bars to the furthest position and dropped my pegs, kept stock seat height, Renthal 996 bars, and I love it. I used to run tall seats but never liked how it made me feel turning the bike, but thats just preference. Also the front feels way better traction wide compared to Honda and KTM. 

I’m 6’3 and I feel super comfortable on a 2020 KX250. I put the bars in the forward position and pegs in the lower position. Game changer. I really liked the stock bar bend but I recently changed to what keefer recommends as it is lower and can help with corners. I might go back to the OG bend though, we will see. I’ll give it 3 rides

Parts fiche says 36mm (by description and PN) but I have no way to confirm.

"sold a bike because they could not get comfortable on it"....absolutely.  If the ergos don't work for you or can't be "fixed", it can be miserable and also dangerous.

Depending on what type of riding you plan on doing, the Suzuki DR650 has bolt on footpeg mounts and both "JNS" and "Wirtz Wire" both make lowered/rearward footpeg mounts that can make it really comfortable for a tall person.  Adding a set of Rox Risers will take care of the handlebar height on most bikes...if the cables are long enough and they are for the DR650 .

Last fall when I was bike shopping I set on quite a few bikes, except a YZF.  Wasn’t a 250 YZF to be had in my neck of the woods.  I have a 2014 YZF in the garage so kinda knew what the the Yamaha was like.  The KX and the Honda seemed like the best fit for a tall guy, Honda got good ergo’s, I bought a Honda.  The KTM seemed to set different, just felt different.  I didn’t set on a Gas Gas, dealer is across town, Houston’s a big place.  I am going to set on Gas Gas when the 24’s come out.

One thing I didn’t know bike shopping last year was the KX had adjustable pegs or I recall it does.   
 

Kawasaki and Honda have the best footpeg, seat to handlebar feel for long legs. 

I stand 5'11" I like a low bar and love the Yamahas, I got the works connection lowered peg mounts and it works great for me on my yz250fx! the 22 is definitely a bit tighter than the older models. But I feel fine with the fitment.

Im 6’6” on a ‘21 Honda.

Renthal Windham Fatbar and 1/2” lower peg mounts BUT I’m running pro pegs and they have an upwards angle so peg height to stock is about the same (feels like it anyway).

I will say the Kawi is a touch roomier in the leg department. I thought about trading in the Honda but between how used to the bike I am, how well it’s dialed in and the fact the SR doesn’t use KYB anymore, I’m just keeping it. Off topic but I don’t like the feedback of the ‘23 frame on the Honda.

I put Windham pro tapers on my 23 Honda before it ever went to the track, robbed them from my YZF they were like new.  Windham taper seems to fit my 35 inch arms, what I’ve always used.  Also lowered the pegs but haven’t ridden it with lowered pegs, hand issue with left hand.  I like to ride but it’s hot as hell, 110,115 heat index, track will be there when it cools down.  Along with my hand will get better.
