He has zero interest in facts or truth, he is only here to get a reaction, he knows stark doesn't claim 80 rwhp
They life motors in 10k hours , normally 10k, 20k 30k or even 100k
Most mxbikes don't reach 1k
I was referring to battery life, I'm aware the motor should last quite a while. 10k hours may be a bit much though, wasn't 3,000 hours tossed out at some point?
Unless it’s a KTM according to the bike brand quality thread going right now.

You obviously have one right? If not then why don’t you have one?
3000hr is nothing for most industrial motors
Basically I think the motor will be the last thing that wears out ,the frame will probably be super flexy by then
Tesla say around 500k miles to 1 million miles for there motors
What's your issue buddy ? I can say a Lamborghini is fast and not own one, or a yzf 450 ....
I don't have to own one to come here ...relax
Even at 3K hours its an insane amount of time on a Dirtbike. Are you meaning runtime or charge cycles when your talking about extended life?
Oh, I'm well aware in an industrial setting motors can last over 100k hours, but a set RPM and load in a somewhat consistent temperature is different than what a MX bike would go through. But yes, I also think the frame would be sacked out before the motor goes. I'm just trying to get a realistic idea of how the bike will be in the average person's hands.
I was originally wondering if you could get a longer ride time at 50 hp on the 80hp model vs the same setting on the 60hp model, hoping it was a different motor and it would be more efficient at a lower percentage of max power, but in one of the early stark threads someone who worked there said it was the same motor, only firmware difference between the models.
It's very hard to say , imo the battery will be the 1st to degrade.
It's not something I spend my time thinking about as you can't know the answer, look at the recent yzf 250 and 450 problems , the 250 hasn't changed for years and they are going pop all over the place
One concern I don't have with emx bikes is motor life...I don't even have that concern with ICE 450's...but I still get a new bike every 100 hours because the rest of the bike is clapped out by then (and I like the new bike feel)...so the fact that the motors will go 3000+ hours is irrelevant...I'd still be wanting a new one every 100 hours...(which is the root of one of my main concerns-after range-which is price, replacing them every 100 hours the lack of maintenance and fuel doesn't have time to recoup the extra cost of the bike...so its just a much more expensive bike).
How much longer would the battery life be at 50 hp/60 hp? From those dyno's it looks like the top speed was the same at 50 hp and 80 hp (it just takes longer to get there at 50 hp)....so does the battery last longer at 50 hp?
the (up to) 60hp bike and the (up to) 80hp bike are exactly the same components and hardware, except for probably 1 line of code in the firmware (software) like, in laymans terms:
enableAlpha = true / false
Which is likely then referenced all through the firmware. Every single Stark Varg is capable of producing 80hp. The 60hp is firmware limited to up to 60hp, and those who purchased 60hp bikes who feel like they need more will be able to upgrade (for a fee, probably more than the price difference of the two bikes) and receive a software update to do so.
Motor, battery, inverter, everything is exactly the same. The motor itself is likely capable of producing much more than 80 horsepower, the battery tech is the limitation (do we even call it a limitation if the bike can produce more power than any production dirtbike ever made?).
That said, other than the battery, the components on the bike are about as light as they can be without being insanely expensive. You should see the bar clamps, for example! Stark went to great lengths to cut weight all throughout the bike, and even went as far as making the lightest bar clamps i've ever had my hands on using, likely, a 5 axis cnc ($$$$$$ and TIME). Also, the new feather weight tubes! etc etc.
With advancements in energy density we'll see lighter battery packs over time for the same amount of range. That's where all the weight savings will come from in the years to come.
I dont think it will be any different as even pro riders detuned it when in 60hp mode
I've always said even pro riders struggle to use more than 50 hp
Most weekend guys probably go fastest with 40hp
The battery is the only limitation on that bike...but because of range and weight, not because of power. I'm anxiously waiting for battery tech to advance (and the price to come down) so range will come up and I can ride/race off road on one of these. Hopefully it happens before the end of my riding days...
I wonder if Electric bikes are the blue ray dvd's of the moto industry...better than an ICE bike (standard dvd) in performance (picture quality)...but will ultimately-and quickly-be replaced by something better (digital and streaming services). Who knows?
I’m just asking man, lol. You’re like the most passionate poster about this thing. Yes it’s cool. We’re just not as excited about Bryan’s bike as you are. Maybe he’ll let you ride it sometime.
You're right though, people get weird around Lamborghini and Ferraris too.
This is pretty cool. I have posted some criticisms of Stark as a company, and don't care for the e-movement in general. But as a fellow moto gearhead, the dyno curve intrigues me. It would be pretty cool to twist the throttle on that thing!
Yes that is one of the things I found exciting with Electric power. Safely being able to adjust the power .I'm sure that will get more and more tuneable. And just the way electric feels as You accelerate , it's unlike anything else I've felt. Go out and try riding an Alta or test drive a Tesla , or even go drive an electric Go-cart . I think You would see why people are so excited about these bikes. Plus they are also near silent so you can get away with riding places that You never could on a gas bike. Like Your backyard , or a sandpit /woods track that only noise complaints get you kicked out. I know like everything, there are downsides to Electric MX bikes. But the upsides can be worth it for a lot of people.
Pit Row
I think I hate this thread.
I follow these E-bike threads with curious interest…I appreciate Bryan’s info, his enthusiasm and MOSTLY I am crazy impressed with his ability to keep it classy! He has managed to avoid telling all the usual obnoxious trolls to “get bent” well beyond the normal tolerances for “ass-hat-ery”! Why so many with NOTHING of any positive value to add, and clearly never learned the old adage, “if you ain’t got nothin’ nice to say, just shut-up & go away” continue to post their negative/naysayer crap is a mystery to me, but I digress…
What I DO KNOW, is that despite the continued effort of a significant handful of haters trying to convince the rest of us that we should ALL submit to the world according to YOU…please know that I don’t give two drips of cold piss about your opinion, your negative reasons why the Stark sucks, the batteries are crap, Bryan is a Mole, Anton is a turtleneck dictator, Seb Tortelli is too removed from MX, blah blah blah…
IF & WHEN I can get my hands on a Stark Varg, I will buy one and I will ride the SHIT out of it on my 20 acre property on the MX track that I will build immediately behind my house, that I CANNOT currently ride my new YZ450 stroker or my YZ250 smoker on! (Or ride it on my Bro’s nearby 45 acre property that again my ICE bikes cannot be ridden on!)
I will dress in the comfort of my own garage, unplug my Varg, ride right out the shop door and get my Moto on, put it back on the stand and charge it while I step inside and sip a glass of tea and chat up the family at the kitchen table… ride/charge/repeat
I will also continue to ride my beloved ICE bikes and support my local MX facilities every chance I get too! I love to ride ANYTHING with two wheels…whether its on dirt or pavement, pedal or throttle, MX, downhill or XC, the manner in which the propulsion is provided will NOT be on my list of things to worry about! 😎 👍❗️
Carry on…flame away…all the same 🤪
Plant some trees around your track, if your neighbors can't hear and see you riding, they can't complain!
Dude, don’t be so blasé about this. If none of us heed the desperate warnings of the “trolls” this thing is gonna cause a catastrophe the likes of which the world has never seen! Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!
Hahaha NO KIDDING!!! 🤪
Sheeeesh we frickin’ GET IT! Ya hate em, Ya won’t ride em, Ya won’t get fleeced for YOUR money!!!… GOT IT! GOOD FOR YOU!
Now MOVE ALONG… Don’t worry for me or my $$$! I have managed to ride my ICE bikes for 50+ years now without suffering a severe burn, haven’t chopped my fingers off in the rotating chain/sprockets or brake rotors yet!!!? I think I’ll be OK and not electrocute myself with the batteries on my E-bike!!! And I’m just as likely to have my brand new YZ450 snap a con-rod as the new Varg locking up! Either one will send my ass over the bars just as fast as the other, but its just part of the hazard I assume when I go out on an MX track and turn the turns, jump the jumps! Also I’ve managed to fly RC aircraft with large Li-Po batteries for several years too and I haven’t burned my house down or shocked myself yet, SO thanks for your concern but … I’M A BIG BOY!
And dadgum it, if them rotten ol’ batteries quit working on me while I moto down, then shit, I guess I’ll walk the 75 yards back to the house and call 911! (Same way I’ve walked back to the truck for my gas can when my dumb-ass forgot to top off before hitting the track!)
There are a lot of things I don’t really care for, I can’t really see the point in nascar, driving in a circle for 500 miles? or Monster trucks, blowing axles out week after week?…BUT I got WAAAAAY better things to do with my time than haunt the forums of those endeavors and try to convince the unwashed of MY holy perspective!
I can’t wait to get my hands on a Varg and put it in the arsenal right along side my YZ’s, the Africa Twin & CRF Rally! It will give me yet another tool to get my Moto fix with and I truly hope my dog & cat live happily ever after too! 🤪 👍❗️
100%
Flying RC is actually what convinced me that electric was the future. Nitro is cool but electric just works better.
Okay I had to laugh over this one. 👍
Well said. Exactly the reason ICE will get pushed back on the burner.
Wanna bet all the manufactures will release eModels within 2 years to compete with Varg?
Ktm will be the second to release even thou Pit saying they can’t.
Honda within 2 years.
I think Pit actually said at the moment ( for pro riding I believe ) batteries are not there yet , he didn't say you can't make a good mxbike with them
The other companies imo are way off making a e bike imo
Just like ford etc they are way behind people Iike china with ev cars , even KTM seem way behind
I doubt the current OEM's have anything comparable to the Stark waiting in the wings, more likely they won't have anything for 4-5 years and by then the Varg's performance would have improved. If Stark can deliver the Varg in volume they may own the market by then.
Honda/Mugan developed their prototype electric motocross bike in 2018/19, it was rumored to have similar performance to the Alta Redshift MX, Honda's team was disbanded in 2020, the bike hasn't been developed any further. Honda will need to assemble a new team to develop a bike to compete with the Stark, it will take time.
The Stark is not currently eligible to race in any AMA amateur or Pro event, if you want to race a Stark Varg you'll need to race a non-AMA sanctioned event, or race in the UK where it's eligible to race in the open class. The OEM's will push back on any rule changes allowing the Stark to compete, until they have their own electric motocross bikes with comparable performance to the Varg.
Given than Stark has only been able to manufacture and ship one production bike…I doubt the big 5 (or big 7) are even slightly concerned about trying to compete with them at this point. If they can sell and ship half their pre orders…I think the big manufacturers ears will perk up a bit. But until then, I think the Big 5 aren’t even giving it a second thought (possibly to their own detriment, but who knows where they are with their own e development, and how fast they could bring one to market, if they wanted too).
