So, what will the system use to detect a drunk driver? If the lanes on the highway are not painted straight, does my car stop itself? If I maximize my momentum by hugging the apexes on a twisty road, am I screwed? If my passengers are drunk and their breath sets off a sensor?

The problem for me is that I NEVER drive drunk. There is therefore, quite literally a 0.0000000000% chance that I (society) will ever need this feature in connection with myself. However, I'd be willing to bet there is a greater than 0.0000000000% chance that this system will fail and cause me inconvenience. Will that inconvenience be outweighed by beneficial results? Time will tell, but I'd bet drunk fuckers will find a way around it, so probably not.
In a rural area, that failure could be fatal.

How crazy, my wife and I were just talking today about a drunk driver that crashed down the street from us and I told her the day will come when every new car will come with a breathalyzer installed for it to start. The shitty truth is the kind of people who would do that will inevitably find a way around it and still drive drunk while the rest of us all have to deal with this shit and when it malfunctions won't be able to drive our own vehicle. Then when I call my boss to say I can't make the meeting because my car won't start from this thing I'll be forced to pay for an uber which the manufacturer won't reimburse me for I'm sure.
Criminals will always find a way around it while the rest of us pay. I can't even buy Sudafed allergy medicine without having my license scanned meanwhile I pass by 3 people smoking meth in the parking lot. Go figure.
Insta and Facebook users are probably more dangerous, how about work on that?

Maybe you should look with your fog lights on. You might find there's a lot of things you really don't "see".

That day might come where they have some sort of device that blocks any cell reception and only allows 911 or other emergency services. I'll never understand why people can't put their damn phone away for just a little bit to drive. I don't even like to talk on the phone with my bluetooth going through the speakers. I know it makes zero sense but I have no problem talking to people in my truck or having the stereo blasting but having any phone conversation just throws me off.
I was thinking maybe one of those cans of compressed air but that could work too. Or somebody comes up with an app to hack it. Either way they'll find a way around it like always. What's even better is those are the kind of people who will scam the system to drive drunk and when they get in an accident will sue the manufacturer for "allowing" them to do it.
most breathalyzers have cameras, so you would need a more sophistacated hack then that. Moot point anyways, as everything i've read says breathalyzers most likely wont be required, but other forms of alcohol detections will be

My aunt had a dui, hence a breath machine in her suv once he license was returned. It malfunctioned all the time, was set of by a laundry list of foods, and required multiple uses on any trip beyond 45 minutes. Hopefully this new system won't resemble anything near it.
