Hi I was wondering if someone could answer on questions. How much does a fully race tuned engine improved the laptimes.
Ex. My kid is on the sx125 2023 with the suspension setup done. Hi is getting to A level speed. The bike is stock with pipe. If I go all in on the engine. Ecu, head and porting. What will he gain in speed/laptimes. What is your experience with this.
thanks Dan
Hard to quantify but it will make him much more competitive in the A class on a 125
Talent and technique are the biggest factors imo. A faster engine only helps if you have the technique and talent to utilize it.
Hi is racing junior 125 i Denmark it is a combined B-A class.
He is very smooth. Good teknik.
Ignition will help allot and remember engine mods mean more maintenance and using race fuel. Find a local TRUSTED engine builder and go from there. Stay within your class rules or its wasted money and nobody likes it when your bikes 144 and suppose to be 125.

Yes I now all off this.
I was wondering what you experience was with laptime gains with engine mods on 2 stroke
You shouldn't have to come here and ask these questions if your kid is as fast as you say he is.
Ok great thanks 👍
There is no way to tell how much faster per lap engine mods will make. I have seen riders go slower on a built motor. MX is 90% rider ability. Lance Armstrong said it best in his book "its not about the bike"
It’ll help. Obviously, good air intake filter (possibly holes in the airbox), good reeds /reed valve, Boyeson water impeller. I’d also make sure he has good brakes too. (Also, 25-50 push-ups and setups per day will help tremendously). You probably know all this already
Lance Armstrong meant to say "its about the drugs".
I am surprised he got away with it for so long, and that's the most drug tested sport there is.
Where ever there's money there's corruption.
Ok I will try too explain. I have been in thes sport for 30 years. I am not new. I am asking for your experience. My kid is in good fitness. He pushes Thu til the end and most times he is gaining 2-3 position the last 5 min off a race. I have no experience with racing mod engine because it has newer ben a problem. Now he is racing junior 125 everyone is on amazing bikes. And now he is filling that the bike is slow. And is looks slow compared to the one's he is racing. Do I spend the money? Is it worth it
If you want to help your son, leave him on a stock bike for the longest possible. Let him find a way to gain speed to beat guys with better equipment, it will help him in the long run. I'm sure Jett would win that class on a bone stock bike. Meaning, let the rider make the difference, not the equipment and think long term, not what's better for tomorrow...
It's just that, it's basically impossible to quantify laptimes to bhp in MX. There's too many variables, and truthfully, most non-pro riders will turn basically the same time on any bike. Now, situationally, the story is a little different. Need to win a corner to corner drag race to pass a guy? More power. Jump that's just a hair too far? More power. Deep sand? More power. On the other hand, a track with a surface that's greasier than a used car salesman in a mud wrestling pit and choppier than a date with that Liz Borden chick, still more power but you want to smooth it out.
Most riders will have faster average lap times with a stock engine but in saying that the easiest way to pass 40 riders is to get the holeshot!
That’s the thing it wasn’t “just him” I would bet a paycheck at least the top 50 guys were doing the same or similar. Someone just finally decide to give up his secrets for one reason or another
If you could get him a ride on a modded bike that would be the best way to tell. Not all mods are equal. A pipey motor with too much hit may be harder to ride. If you go down the modded side choose wisely.
