Well i am sitting here reading this and going to turn 52 next month.

I have raced every year except two since 1975. I think if you are that worried about getting hurt and the "big what if's " in this sport......well time to do something else. Talk about yep, we can talk about it.
The nice thing TODAY is we have a choice. We can go buy a motorcycle, race it, and take the chances we personally are comfortable with. Wonder how that changes with a different health care process???

But sitting around "hand wringing" worrying about it at any age, you might as well go read a friggin book.

I don't run, (hell i couldn't if i wanted to), was never into wieghts or any that kind of crap. But i like to ride, race, my dirt bikes. I have two kids, I have business's that will run if I am not up and going. But ya know I owned a body shop for 25 years, and some times working on monday sucked but it's what we do. We make sacrifices to ride and race./........hopefully we will be able and our kids will be able to make those choices about when we can ride or race when we want.

keep asking the questions, makes for 10 pages of WGAF, and well the entertainment value is slim to none.

See i could have said if he wasn't on a damn 450 he likely be way safer on a 2 stroke......but that wouldn't help huh?

Guys...

How many of you were replaced by a younger man at work? Look at Guyb, he is not old but he is approaching old and his days may be number because there will be kids willing to do his job for less and with better quality. America kicks older workers to the curb and replaces them with young dogs. Same is true for motocross. Everyone of you were replaced by faster younger racers...some called SONS. Sorry but this is the EVIL cycle. You got old, move on. Move on to a friendlier sport, a sport more SUITABLE FOR YOUR AGE. You look like a 50 year old dating a 21 year old chick. How many 60 year olds are busting the half pipe at X games? Dennis McCoy is about 40 but he is an exception. You look akward and weird on the track ROLLING the doubles and cross rutting every turn.

It's not RIDING that makes you old.
It's NOT riding that makes you old.

Your chance of dying an untimely death in your Prius within one mile of your house is better than from MX. Hopefully big drives a Prius.

Don't worry everyone. Bigattack does not understand what she is saying. I think the old guy in question must have beat her that day and she's just sore about it.

Don't care what you think of me ...my message is becareful and keep it on two wheels...and if you are over 40...find a sport more suitable for your age...also I wouldnt be against banning older racers from the track. AMA bans young riders from racing pro...why not ban older guys from the track. It's your life, take your own risks.

I'm not trying to be funny. I'm serious. I have a stable of two strokes and my dad always admires them and says, "When we going riding", well I love my dad too much to allow him to throw a leg over my bikes. His bones are brittle and would crumble in a crash. No dad, sorry your days are done. My dad taught me how to ride in the front yard. I watched him race at Indian Dunes and Saddleback. He is still DAMN FAST... in his MIND but he doesn't realize his Indian Dunes days were 30 years ago. Tracks have changed, bodies have changed..if dad expires from this world because of a motorcycle accident my mom doesnt get his pension...mom would be broke...then she will have to move and live with me...yeah pops will NEVER ride again i got to keep him in healthy shape!

I'm over 40 and I don't ride over my head.

How bout if you cant ride my speed for 6 laps without crashing, you get banned from MX AND Vital?

I think everyone could easily agree to that.

Age has little to do with any of this. I know guys I went to school with that are fat and bald and can barely walk. They take eleventeen different pills a day and still have health problems. Turns out, playing 'safe' video games on the couch with the kids doesn't burn many calories. Who dies first? The guy who broke an arm once or the guy who clogged all his arteries at 44?

Was it your dad that crashed? This seems to be very personal for you. I assume you are a younger girl who was scared to see this happen before your eyes.

2T,

Sounds like you have a good attitude regarding life and that keeps you young. Look what happened to Ross Maeda, I still feel sick to my stomach about it. I'm scared, I may never race again. Motocross is just too dangerous. Why are we going in circles? What are we trying to prove? When we were 12 it was all about that plastic trophy...going home to show mom what you won....and every kid on the street. But at 45 what is your purpose? To tell the younger guys you are still a bad ass? YOu can still hang with the young kids? Are you racing just to keep up with your sons? I dont get it. SOME OLD GUYS JUST NEVER GROW UP.

I bet most chest pounding 40 plusers here have no kids, no home, no responsibility so the squander their life at the track trying to keep up with the kids. If I hurt anyones feels please forgive me and keep it on two wheels.

You obviously have never known a racer still racing in his 70s. We all know some or have known some bless their souls where racing kept them going.

I call BS on your dad losing his pension from getting hurt.

Means if he trips going to the pot and breaks both hips, he'll lose his pension.

You're so full of shit.

Andy I take it reading isn't your strong suit! Your reply is as far off as his original conclusion! Have another read and try again.......

Bigattack, you make a lot of valid points for your personal decision about when (and when not) to race and ride. Luckily for everyone else we live in a free world and you have absolutely NO SAY in anyone else's choice - long may it stay that way. I have no wish to live in your Brave New World.

Mattyvicious - I take it your signing off, adios!

If you want the the complete offroad motorcycle industry to collapse, keep all of the bill paying over 40 crowd at home. No gate fees paid, no entry fees paid, no food bought at the local track, no District cards purchased, no AMA cards purchased, no RV sales, no additional gas and oil purchases and of course no t-shirt sales and most importantly no new bikes being sold. So if "WE"e are not invited to the party, there won't be a party. In my area of the country the greatest growth in racing is in the Age Based classes and Minis. So if dad stays home...the kids will to!

Saddleback 30 years ago? Better than most new manufactured tracks by far...Bring back Saddleback for the 2010 Des Nations!

Good! More room on the track for the rest of us who have a pair! While you're at it, quit your moto board hobby too!

The only way to know your limits is to go past your limits. "Be careful"....what a pussy thought. Last time I went riding I replaced the clutch cover and front brake lever, then bent the shifter back into place. It was a great day! Be careful at that desk job. You have a high risk of getting paper cuts. ( 9.99% on the paper cut scale)

unfortunately it's people like you that fuck up our beloved sport, So please please go crawl into a hole and die, you'll be doing us and the world huge favor.

Wow...just wow.

You are ignoring the fact that most of us Vets race against people our own age. I have no interest in banging bars with a WFO 16-year-old trying to impress his girlfriend.

I actually hear this all the time from my brother. He spends just as much money on mountain bikes and broke his leg riding a horse- but he tells me to quit because of danger and cost.
It's like walking up to somebody and saying "hey, you should quit your marriage."

MX is a huge asset to my life and i take it more seriously now than I ever did as a kid. The hardships on the body--and there are many--are more than worth it.

I have come to the conclusion that this friggin' idiot will never get a clue as to why vet guys race.....or anyone races for that matter. He doesn't understand the sport what so ever. "IF" he did , he wouldn't be making statements like he has.

Dude , seriously , you need to just sell your bikes and get into another sport. I don't care what fuggin' sport you get into , but this is what's called a "MAN" sport ( well....women can do it pretty well too!) And if you can't grasp the concept of that , you really need to leave!

Can i ask why you even signed up on this message board? Granted , years ago , a +40 and +50 rider might have been pushing it " a little" , but with the way a lot of guys take care of themselves , getting the right nutrition , excercise , and so forth.....the longevity of being able to do this sport ( and do it well) has gone up with the age limits.

I know you think "you know" what the fuck you are talking about , but you are looking at it from only "your" perspective!.....which is so wrong , and brainwashed , you haven't got a fucking clue!

I am still in awe that someone would actually sign up on an MX message board , and spew the shit you did on your opening statement. IF you really loved your dad as much as you say......you let him do what he wants to do. Smarter than your dad....pppffttt! Please , .....what is he fucking retarded then?

I'm begging you to please leave this message board , as you have no value what so ever , and i can honestly say that your opinion really sucks and is biased. You ARE one guy i would love to meet up with one day!

One other thing.....you have NO racing experience at all! the reason why i say this is because if you did.....you would NOT think this way. You would actually have an understanding on why older guys still race. Sure....maybe you did a couple beginner races , but i'll bet , that's about it. That's why you have no concept about this sport.

BIGATTACK : Prove me wrong dude........did you ever even race MX at all.....or are you just some stupid by stander that thinks he knows what this sport is about??

Post some race results PLEASE! I really want to see how a "real " racer could even say things as stupid as what you have!

This dude got a head like the head of my penis, all meat! I tell people this same shit all the time. Show me the rules where it says that you have to quit riding or racing at "X" age. I can't find it anywhere better yet I find the entry sheet for the vet world championships where it's racing for nothing but the old farts. I wonder if this jackass used his logic on other sports as well. So much stupidity in his original post like people or riding dirt bikes purposly to get hurt. Do you really think for a minute that the "dad" said man I am going out there and not keep the rubber side down and to top it off I am going to break my wrist just because I am not too old for this......really dude wake the f**k up!

It's just a discussion point. Accident kind of hit home with me. I'm just saying for the older guys out there take care and be safe and know your limitations. But I would favor having a age break say 40. After 40 or so you can't race anymore unless its with a vet club. Or you must practice with the vet club rather than at open practice sessions. I would love to see statistics for guys over 40 who get hurt. I bet its more than the kids!
What a Twit. I still ride at 54, some shit I know I can do but don't, I know my limitations that's why some of us are still riding and not all broken up, anybody can shit shit on any given day...
