In season 2 we find out that part didn't really come out of OP's motor, this was all some sort of social experiment
Disappointingly, this story ended with the bike shop tearing down the engine and finding a few more pieces of spare clutch pin and no other damage. Reassembled and I raced a LL regional and destroyed my shoulder. That was 2 years ago and I haven't even washed the bike yet from that race, but that's another story.
So the conclusion was that a rogue clutch pin was dropped into the engine during manufacture. It found its way to the bottom of the engine where it was held in place by the magnetic drain plug and must have been crosswise across the drain hole. So when I drained the oil it just sat there, and I never poked my finger into the hole because, well, you don't ha ha!. I changed the oil every 2 to 3 hours and the bike had almost 30 hours on it at the time. I only discovered it because it got dislodged while riding and I heard a crunch and the bike stuttered a little. I did an immediate oil change and discovered the broken clutch pin, then came on here and wrote my original post.
THE END.
Cheers
Simon
all's well that ends well
Sorry about the shoulder but thanks for the update!!!
Hope you get back on the horse one of these days man
Yeah my bike was born female, but now identifies as a man so it grew an extra clutch pin.
Cheers

Top job on quality control there. Two Austrian bike owners from a small sample of owners worldwide with the same issue? Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me.
Thanks for the update. I hope your shoulder heals up 100% and you're able to ride as much as you'd like!
This is still baffling.
Your bike was a 2016. From the factory this rogue clutch pin is dropped in the engine from new. It floats around the engine for multiple oil changes before showing its face.
My 2021 has the exact same issue. This pin shows up in an oil change after 80 hours. Engine and gear box work normally. No pins missing from the clutch.
anyone with intimate knowledge of KTM engine assembly recognize this pin?
Clutch pin, nothing else it could be.
Overly conservative.
I have a 2014 250SXF, and this looks like one of the 12 clutch plate guiding pins. I know because when I took the pressure plate off ours a few weeks ago, there was one missing and I am near sure it fell inside the gearbox. I cannot find it yet. I have used a magnet without success.
My question, how did this come out the oil drain hole? It seems like a tight fit. I will try tonight and hope I get lucky - otherwise hoping for any advice to help me fish it out without disassembling the motor.
Thanks!
