Thanks for the pictures!
The shifter linkage is interesting. I don't know a lot about CZs to know why that set up is used on that bike : be it a product of peg changes / relocation, Big Feet / whatever of previous user.
But, I've done many linkage set ups on hybrid builds over the years - 4t engines in 2t chassis, and vice versa. Often, the lever shaft location on an engine, just won't work well with the donor chassis. Quite often on builds, I've done linkages from the shaft, to a lever using the swingarm pivot bolt as the gear lever pivot center.
I think a few companies marketed such things on some YZs in the 90s that had difficulty with shifting?
I have rebuilt 72&73 CZ250's and never seen or imagined your shifter linkage (20-30 years ago). I do remember that you had to move your foot a lot more to shift. Long throw. Thanks for the pics. I have a friend that still has his 72 and looking for a snake pipe. His pipe has been crushed/repaired and needs replaced.
The gentleman that I picked the bike up from said that he found the pipe and then set out to build the bike because the pipe was so cool
I problem. I think it was Doug Dubach that ran a linkage shifter on his yz at Loretta’s in the stock class and they DQ’d him for it.
Tony was def the best guy to come out of Arkansas. My Dad was really close with him from the beginning, racing and partying. Phil Reed was one of the kids Tony used to help out with parts and stuff from his racing shop. A really nice guy, I have never heard a bad word about him and even the World Champ Lackey gave him props for being a really fast guy. Here’s a cool shot of Tony in 73 racing the intl class in Ohio Trans AMA
