The 14-52 has plenty of power to carry 3rd + 4th gear around the whole track  (Glen Helen main, or REM) and the bike feels much calmer.

Not a techy, dont know how to post a pic, any instructions?

Also, Backyard graphics offers catchy designs, good quality backings too.

New 2023 YZ 450f question. The fork spring rate should be fine for me @ 210 lbs but it was bottoming and clanking sometimes. I had to run the compression @ 6 clicks out to make it rideable. I pulled the fork and dumped the outer chamber drained it for a while and measured the oil one side was 240cc and one was 250cc I figured some oil was left in there. The book says 270 is standard but you can go up to 365. I put 320 back in each leg. Is this a legit way to do this? I've searched for a couple hours now and can't find an answer but if I messed up someone feel free to tell me so I can do it correctly tomorrow before the weekend. It's okay to flame me, it will be worth it if i can get an answer. LOL Thanks.

I would think at 210 the standard fork springs would be too soft for you. As for adding oil normally i would add it in 10ml increments, you've done a fairly large jump but take it for a spin and see how it goes

My fork was soft also and ended up being 40cc low on fork oil as well.

Did you just go back to 270 standard? How much do you weigh?  I am thinking 320 I put in is going to be way too much. I'm heading up to the country to test it then probably coming back home to take some oil out most likely. I will report back.

You should be ok. I think Race Tech calls for 330cc?

Thats depending settings. I went from EU 285ml to 275 with stock settings and now 300ml with different setting by my tuner but im just 165lb. Manual gives different oil settings(270ml vs 285ml) to US models in stock, not sure if shimming is different.

I forgot to look there when i was looking at spring rate. They call for 340cc. I just went to the country to ride it, there was a bumpy rocky washed out fire road and it did fine. I have a jump I do over the driveway onto the front yard and stock it bottomed but at 320cc  it was really nice on landing. There's a 7 foot straight drop off ledge onto a concrete driveway i did it really slow in first gear and landed with the gas off and it was pretty amazingly soft. IMO the real test will be on a rough MX track braking going into turns. I will probably ride it like this some, start fresh flush the oil correctly then try to find the sweet spot. I appreciate the replies and help from everyone and will report what I learn. If anyone else has messed with fork oil levels please post your weight, fork settings results etc. One thing I forgot was I went from 6 out on the compression to 16 out and it seemed to ride better and never bottomed harshly but it hasn't been test in real conditions.

I am 6'0, 185, my suspension guy revalved Forks +Shock, put 330cc oil in my forks, springs are stock, Fork height is +2-3, Sag is 105-106, F+Shock clickers are 12 / 12, Hi Speed 1.5 out, and she feels real good.

Well the weather has finally broke and I have spent a decent amount of time on the new bike. I have four rides on it and so far this is what I can report.

Track Conditions

Tighter track with mixed terrain. Some sections of hard pack, sand also a mix of flat turns, rutted turns and banked turns. Several offcambers as well. Decent size jumps overall the track was pretty dry minus a few mud holes

Set up

Started with the smooth control map that I downloaded and for the most part stuck with that. Went with the keefer set up on the forks and shock as I do not like a twitchy bike and did not want to experience that at all and risk losing trust in the new bike. Lastly did 3 days with the stock 49 tooth rear and one day with a 50 tooth rear. For reference I am a 190 pound local B rider

Suspension/Chassis

Bike felt very very balanced with no indication of twitchiness on decel or instability. Thank god because that was one of my biggest concerns. The bike is extremely easy to get into and through a turn. With my 21 I could corner good on it but I had to put a lot more thought and effort into and one little mistake was usually penalized with the bike pushing out on exit. The bike also feels very light in the air and can be maneuvered very easily with little to no effort. All in all from a chassis/suspension side I am very happy and am pretty confident I wont need to make any further adjustments

Motor

I'll start by saying I am a third gear rider. The feel of the bike along with chassis compliance for me just feels so much better if I can leave it in third. This is the case for corners as well as a nice luggable third gear for me helps me keep smooth constant momentum in corners. With the stock 49 tooth rear I felt that 3rd gear was just ever so slow to recover on corner exit. Even with a quick stab to the clutch it still felt a tiny sleepy to me off bottom. It was rideable and I could live with it but for me and my style I did miss a little of that third gear luggability down low. I did try to utilize second gear just out of curiosity as that has been opened up. For me that 2nd gear hit is just too massive and as that bike got high in the rpm range you could definitely feel the chassis binding up and some rigidity/deflection.

I then tried going up to a 50 tooth in the rear with the hope that it would give it a little more bottom but not become too touchy. With only one day on the 50 tooth I am still on the fence. It felt like it did make it too touchy but right after my second moto when I was about to write it off I started to get used to it so I think I'm going to give it more time. I did right one moto on map 2 which is the pre installed smooth linear map and it felt like maybe that combined with the 50 tooth hit that sweet spot of more off the bottom but not being too touchy. So I'm going to spend more time with the downloaded map on the 50 to see if I can get used to that and if not maybe make a few small adjustments on the power tuner app to tame it a bit.

Conclusion

For me this is an awesome bike that is really enjoyable to ride. Chassis and suspension is great. The motor is also great just trying to dial it in and perfect it to what I like.

Has anyone had any experience on this bike going up to the 50 tooth rear and what were your thoughts/experience compared to the stock 49?

I tried a 50t as well to try and get 3rd a bit more usable as that was how I’ve run my last few bikes. My ‘21 was rarely in any other gear and the 50t was perfect.

It didn’t do the same thing for the new one. It was maybe a touch better than stock as far as 3rd goes, but nothing like my ‘21. I ended up switching back to the 49t and stay in 2nd around the track a bit more now. I’m still trying to get this bike dialed. It works amazingly on some tracks and conditions, but I then struggle on others, and whether it works well or not hasn’t really been consistent. Definitely not easy to get set up for me but I’m sure I’ll get there

I feel the same this 23 lugs more than my 20 did waiting on a sprocket this week

pages and pages of what it’s like to ride, impressions compared with the previous models, how radical the changes feel, macro-observations - the first thing we skip to on test videos for a new bike

Go back to posts made when the bike first released if that’s what you’re after. Lots of first ride impressions out there. The rest of us already bought the bike and we’re working collectively to make it better. I need more settings suggestions as I still have a few things I’m struggling with 👍

I grew up in the 80s when greasing the lip of the air filter was automatic.  I started racing again like 8 years ago and assumed that was still what everyone did.

The last page in this thread has me questioning everything.  Octane, grease, mathematics, aliens, even whether my blucru is actually blue or even part of a crew.

I should probably try to ride mine again.. kinda getting the itch.. shoulder still hurts tho..

I appreciate reading all these things people are trying. I'm most excited to try enzo. However, it all of this says one thing about me, it's that I'm not too picky or dont care enough anymore to fine tune lol..

I literally took my stock bike, (besides WC lever) rode it a couple times, then raced Daytona on it. I set sag once at 105 and a few mm on forks and it helped settle in corners with less push. Got to Daytona and FC said I had the spring way to crunched creating to much boingy boing. He put it at 114 and I literally raced it that way.. lol

Coming from Hondas, this bike is still 10x more forgiving in every area. If you struggle with this one, the Honda may eat ya up. I rode mine pretty stock with FC revalve and liked it, but I had to be sure I was doing my part.

I still maintain that my air filter won't get that way.. simply because I'm a fair weather rider and don't ride enough hours a session for it to get that way..

For the guys that have managed to get the twin air wash covers, does anyone know of a place that has them in stock that will ship to Australia?

Heads up on Light Speed Carbon Glide plates, I ordered 04/07/23, 17 days and it still hasn't shipped. I was told it may be in the next batch if not it would be 10 more days. That was  Thursday, I ordered a case saver too it would be cool if they had went ahead and shipped that separate. $225.00 for the glide, 69.00 bucks for a little piece of aluminum stock for the case saver plus 15 shipping, feeling pretty stupid for not going some where else.

Yeah…good old Lightspeed😂 I’m still waiting on a case saver I ordered May 2020. Called about once a week. “Umm.. should be done with the next batch” 👍🏻
I eventually gave up and it’s somewhere in limbo. Maybe Varner has it, who knows?

I’ve learned to call and ask if it’s in stock. I was fortunate enough to get all the lightspeed stuff first batch.

I’m not sure what retail is, but mine was $280 shipped.
