I have started using ChatGPT for research at work and it cut my googling in half. It's far superior to googling for info and reading a bunch of different sites. It might send Google the way of Myspace. It's that good. I have also gotten it to correct its responses by giving it a little more information. This thing is updating its knowledge and abilities by the nanosecond via millions of inputs. It's fucking terrifying, really, but early adopters will be at an advantage. I've used it for everything from detailed research to buying tires, sightseeing, coming up with business ideas, etc. However, it frequently makes errors and has some limitations that still require traditional searching methods, I have noticed.

I'll really worry when the AI writes a song or a poem which I cannot tell is made by a machine. Maybe it's a bias because I know beforehand, but so far, so good; they're all trash! 
 

my oldest son is an exterior designer in the Automotive industry.

he has friends that work for the studios designing movie vehicles (futuristic cars, spaceships etc.)

The studios are using AI for this purpose and these guys are being let go.

Only a matter of time before my sons job is effected.

This Jersey load has tracking app like most . Many details to it. But 1 is I hv to text a AI robot . I think I can call the robot also. The shipper had countless details & task. It was 99 degrees also. I text pics of how I secured the load & the Bol. It responded with Thank you Very much. I apritiate the excellent comunication & hard work.  I responded  no problem 10-4 good Buddy . Kinda joking to see what it said. AI said nothing.  I talked to 2 brokers with this co both where cool.  I had robots load the trl a few times. There controlled by someone in Eastern Europe- cheap labor. A few places had robots or AI we speak to with our numerous po & pu #,s. AI can be a pain in the butt in so many ways. 

Bringing this back from the dead. Long winded ramble coming - my apologies in advance gentlemen.

The response above reminds me of Adam and Eve. Things that live longer than us, and have been around for a lot longer than us, are dumber than us by our general interpretation.

The story of Adam and Eve, found in the Book of Genesis, details the creation of the first humans. After making Adam from dust, God placed him in the paradise of Eden. To cure Adam's solitude, God created Eve from Adam's rib. They were forbidden to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Humanity can't align with humanity as far as our best interests as a whole, and how to be stewards of this planet. We keep getting "smarter" and more technologically advanced, but when you zoom out we seem to be fucking a lot more shit up, a lot more quickly.

What mechanisms are in place that make us feel so confident that an AI intelligence form amongst however many countless agents will somehow magically be aligned with itself, let alone remain aligned with humanity too? Especially in the hands of a select few global empires trying to control the whole shebang at present(so the other guy doesn't get there first).

The techbrodudemans were actually trying get consensus on slowing down AI development, which was the very topic of this thread three years ago. Now we are even more wide open regardless of these concerns only intensifying and not having any mitigation or guardrails being set. And it has been the ruling empires of the world stoking the fire, the very entities that should be trying to address this.

Nuclear weapons being deployed still passed through the hands and minds of humans before they reached other humans to inflict immense harm and damage en masse. It's also why they were only used once (and by us mind you)...AI is capable of making its own decisions, and has already shown instances of going rogue (read about Alibaba's own security model). And we just can't get ourselves to check ourselves, before we wreck ourselves, because the other dudes could potentially get there first..

AI/algorithms have been used to make social media what it is today. Since the inception of social media, suicide has become the second leading cause of death in this country amongst young people.

Check out the 2017 Rohingya Genocide - FB and it's algorithms/unmoderated environment was the primary communication tool for the country, and was the catalyst to mass violence as it proactively amplified hate speech and military propaganda. Or 2016 election cycle here in the States, and Cambridge Analytica's involvement in targeting and influencing people during the election cycle.

The individual loads the gun, and inflicts damage on themselves and/or others. Who loads that individual up with all the ammo to get them to that place? These instances weren't as common before the Internet and social media. And it is more easy to mentally break an individual today than ever, or brainwash them, or even a whole group of people. It's pretty hard to peel a young person away from their phone these days.

Is AI a self correcting mechanism we happened to develop/discover, to ultimately help address the current trajectory of mankind on this planet? 

For a while, even with it's bad actors, mankind was working together in pretty amazing ways for a good run.

This technology could (and certainly will) do a lot of good for humanity and the world. Let's hope we don't crash too hard before we get to this place. We don't send little Joey out on a stark varg in alpha mode out of the gate...This happens enough times and the whole track could be forced to shut down for everyone.

I had a property manager at a condo tell me the chlorinator in the equipment room is causing the hot water heater to wear out prematurely. "ChatGPT" says it should last 30 years"  "We're only getting 6 or 7".   Show me ONE 30 year old water heater that hasn't rusted out, ONE. I hate all this ai bs  

Jenn runs a small medical practice for a facial surgeon.

She's found quite a bit of misleading, and outright false, information on chat while she's been transferring Dr's notes into the permanent files.

Any of this AI crap is only as good as whoever's programming in the info.

Because it damn sure isn't coming up with the shit on its own.

It sucks that the Internet has been boiled down to just a handful of outlets and they are all-in on AI, it's their business model for the foreseeable future. AI video, photos, music, and writing are just about indistinguishable from the real thing now, anything you see on a screen can be fake. People seem to be unaware or don't mind it. 

As they say the victors write the history books, soon AI will be responsible for all the writing. That's not progress, that's a hostile takeover.

More and more I am convinced on the

You may or may not believe in Jesus, but there is a lot of people who are of the opinion that AI may be the antichrist. I won’t go into detail as I don’t want this to be a theological argument, but if you were the devil and you wanted to deceive billions of people, AI sure seems like a logical avenue to accomplish your goals. Just my .02 cents.

1st round of layoffs ever are coming she says. Wage freezes next then at worst 10% pay cuts.

All this is being hashed out without any of the employees knowing its in the works.

My Son in law manages A high rise

The billing , maintenance,  leases on and on was a paper work hassle. Now he scans all of it and chat does the math and its dead nuts spot on , he loves it !

I see AI images being used for things like golf news stories online.  Someone used to have to pay the PGA for the rights to use photos, who hired a photographer to take the photos.  Now they use a generic looking AI golfer that most people don't know isn't a real golfer, and nobody, including the photographer is getting paid.  These losses aren't even being seen yet.  The photographer may never know he didn't get hired by people using AI.
