So, what are you going to do about it?  This board is littered with “woe is me” postings by people apparently waiting for a knight in shining armor. Don’t like paying taxes?  Then don’t! There are ways to live off-the-grid. But complaining on an internet chat board isn’t one of them.

I like your vigor bro but please recognize that you're bitching on the internet about us bitching on the internet...

Up here, let's say you're buying a tank of fuel. So, you have the cost of the gas, you have a provincial fuel tax, a federal excise tax, and a federal carbon tax. And then, they also get you for a federal sales tax...on both the fuel and the goddamned taxes!!!

So in this tax-free society you envision how do you propose we fund our defense, law enforcement, fire, education, roads, sewage treatment, water treatment, trash collection, border protection, judicial system, and on and on and on. If we want a civilized society we are going to have to pay for the services whether they are provided by the government or private entities. If you want to eliminate the government and privatize everything, cool but that will be far more expensive. If you don't care to live in a civilized society that is also cool but you are living in the wrong country, possibly on the wrong planet.

Since you apparently don’t know much about history, there was no income tax whatsoever until 1913.

Perfectly willing to openly take our tax money to live on, with no shame at all.

And politicians who become entrenched in a system that enriches their bank accounts, lobbyists, insider trading, money laundering disguised as foreign aide.

And more corruption than we'll ever know.

All adding up to our tax money being used to buy votes, and anything else that they can do to remain in power.

At first it was instituted as a war funding necessity.

But now...

It's pure theft, with very little services returned to those who have it forcibly remove from their wallets.

I wouldn’t want to spend one day, much less a lifetime, in the US circa 1919. WWI, a poor, mostly agrarian society, primitive healthcare, and few chances to dramatically improve one’s living standard made life a living hell for millions.

There’s a fantasy that people worked harder 100 years ago. If we’re talking manual labor, sure, but thats all that was available.  Illiteracy, poverty, and lack of basic facilities and services was rampant.  For these folks, it wasn’t a matter of pride, but survival.

But hey, if wagging fingers at your real or perceived foes makes your day brighter, then go for it!

Healthcare is still very primitive. The TV makes people think otherwise. They think we can work miracles in the hospital, but we just slow down Darwin a little bit.

Gotta love double taxation also.

Example: Receive money and pay tax on that money. Put the remaining amount in savings. When you drop dead and want to give that money to a family member, they pay tax on that money.

Yes, you’re right. In 100 years people will look back in shock at today’s practices. But medical technology has made unbelievable advances since the early 1900s. Sure, there’s still a lot of guesswork, and your Darwin analogy has merit, but even the most basic services today would have been only a dream at the turn of the previous century.

Saved my nephew's life, had open heart surgery at 2 months old to correct his backwards heart arteries. Don't think they had that technology in 1913...

My sister in-law died and we didn't have to pay taxes on her life insurance or savings? I know if the inheritance is over 5 million there's a tax on it, but not many people have that amount of money to give people.

That's awesome. He's so lucky to get a donor in time too. They have been doing lung transplants for 60 years though, and the first open heart surgery was over a hundred years ago. I know the success rates have improved immensely, but I was speaking more along the lines of people's expectations when they come on to see their doctor. They watch Dr House using a 3d printer to make a titanium femur for somebody. While we still haven't had any real big advance ls for cancer or things like renal failure or type 1 Ddiabetes in a long while.

I don't know about renal failure, but for cancer and the diabeetus, it's pretty simple; there's no profit in a cure.

Exactly.

All the money is in treatment not the cure.

And always follow the money.
