These moto dudes are pretty pathetic with handling good media questioning.

you guys that are standing up for them pushing back on the media questions, you need to go and watch other real press conferences. When Tiger Woods and his wife were going through their nasty divorce the media would ask him about that in his post round golf interviews. Actually you could even watch the golf series on Netflix called, Full Swing. After their matches they grill them asking them if they were going to join the new LIV series and not even about the match they just played.

Quit acting entitled and answer the questions moto dudes and they won’t keep asking you about it. Plain and simple.

He did answer the question with a very clear fact. Smith is not in the title fight. The delivery was slightly cocky, but nothing the F1 guys wouldn’t say.

Thanks for those great pictures! There's your Proof right there--the Veteran of the class showing the rookie (on his own team) how it's done.

Obviously Deegan remembered that and gave it back with some added sauce. CASE CLOSED! Laughing

I like it and you know the kid is going to have to be wary from here on out and get some Cooper Webb eyeballs in the back of head....🙂

Bingo.

Smith had the speed over Deegan to wait and make a clean easy pass later on or wait for a Deegan mistake cause he was making many, like a rookie does.

You have to ask why you would risk yourself and the other rider? We are talking 2 team bikes in one shot. Is it really worth it to show Smitty when the entire world other than yourself can see he was faster. He wanted the win and imploded just like his critics claimed he would.

I have a feeling Star Racing is not with the Vitards on this one.

I’m sure you’ll be banned before I could cash the bet anyway so this is pointless but none the less I like my odds.

I accept.

Whoever asked that question was a complete douche…I could hear his lip quivering

Izer gives alot to amateur motocross. He lives and breathes this sport. Inappropriate or not, if anyone is entitled to get paternalistic towards a rookie, it's Izer

Deegan speaks from a position of power. He’s arguably the second most popular rider in 250 SX, perhaps even the first.  And that level of attention drags $$$ in its wake.  Star will not put that revenue stream at risk.

Star management will also work diligently to neutralize the Smith situation.  Jordon likely understands his position as well, and should take the high road, as he undoubtedly damaged his long-term prospects with last night’s performance.

It's not the smartest move by Smith to develope a in-team feud with the future/current star of the team. Especially considering that he is kinda fortunate to get a Star Yamaha ride after his last 3 or more years in the sport.

Gotta love Deegans comment about Smith being 5th, i laugh at people trying to say Smiths title hopes are over after this. I don't think there has any been any realistic title hopes for Smith this season.

But Deegan should also learn from this. You have nothing to gain by racing a team mate in this way.

Yes I have. But I kinda stopped because it seemed as though forkner was on every other episode and I can’t stand listening to him speak.  That doesn’t justify him patronizing riders if that’s what people think he did though.

Stupid question. Smith ran into the side of Deegan. How is it the lead rider's fault when someone hits them from the side? Don't give me the "Deegan checked up in the corner before!" crap either because that didn't make Smith go into the next corner too hot. Then Smith goes on to crash two more times in that one with no help from Deegan. Gets a shit start in the LCQ then stalls it early on trying to pass around the outside in a packed corner? Then he does the same thing with a couple corners to go when he just needs one spot to transfer. Smith screwed himself over at least three times purely based on bad line selection. Maybe Deegan has mind control powers and was making Smith take the worst possible lines all night.

We expect these kids (yes, kids) to have the EQ of someone twice their age and it's up to the team/coach/parents to reign it in. If you want to see an example of a very talented kid with a seemingly high EQ look to hockey's latest superstar prospect Connor Bedard and how he conducts himself in an interview.

It amazes me how many people are judging Deegan’s response. He’s 17 years old with limited formal education. At that age, I was running my mouth without thinking.

Nobody says Deegan ruined Smith’s night. You are adding that context in your head. Everyone said Deegan’s riding is what is wrong. Smith putting his front tire into Deegan’s back tire everyone agrees wasn’t right.

get with it haha.

Slightly off topic but I don’t think I have ever seen a career like Smith’s. In 2017 he was right in the championship hunt against 250 vets Savatgy, Osborne, and Cianciarulo. And he’s been in the 250 class, never getting back to that level, ever since. Just strange.

I didn’t think what Deegan did was all that bad. Thrasher jumped over an inside berm to slam Lawrence and then Lawrence straight up took out Thrasher. Given those instances already this season, his was mild. He did slam Smith and Smith lost his cool about it, pinning it down the inside, but Deegan (correctly) blocked the line and prevented himself from getting taken out. Smith was clearly rattled by the entire thing, which is not something a 27 year old in the 250 class should be allowing to happen. Then he crashed two more times in the heat and missed the main.

The difference.

Lawrence was always racing forward even when dealing with Thrasher or taking him out.

Deegan, before the corner you mentioned came to a stop and then next corner didn’t even follow the racing lines to hit Smith, effectively racing backwards. Very similar to what Barcia does that everyone complains about.

Title hopes, not so much. A win last night, absolutely. Funny you perceive Danger Boy to be the star of the team when Smith has more wins and was faster all year.

To me, the whole thing was Smith's fault. He has been around a long time and should have ridden much smarter. Especially in a heat race! Come on Jordon! Geez.

It was almost like the moto gods punished him for not riding smart as he should have. Clearly, he was faster. Don't be stupid.

I'm not defending Deegan or think he shouldn't be asked hard questions. I just think your take that Dave, or anyone in the media for that matter, is entitled to lecture anyone.

Second corner Deegan runs him wide and takes lead. Smith makes pass in whoops and Deegan takes him wide making contact. Two corners later Danger Boy tee's him up. Smith loses his shit and runs into the back of Deegan in next corner going down.

If anything Smith was trying to avoid contact the whole time.

Did I get it right?
