First off: B team? Bullshit! They're winners. The ones selected, and deserving to go. Period.

That being said, while I have huge respect for the amount of talent our professional motocross riders exhibit, and the size of the kahunas shown in what they do on the track, I have little sympathy for criticism they receive on message boards. It's not only part of the territory that comes with celebrity and sports hero stardom in our modern world, it's part of life for people who aren't important enough to live sheltered by their own PR people or their entourage.

While most of us only dream of having the skill and finesse that they possess on a motocross track, we do know a little bit about giving your all, having heart, suffering losses, and even enjoying success... and in the real world, that also means suffering the harsh criticism, and accolades that go along with every decision, in every endeavor that is a part of this life.

So, (this is not directed at Mr. Weimer, but the group as a whole) harden the F up! We all have to learn this lesson in order to persevere in life. You really think Brett Favre is too worried about all the criticism he has gotten for his on again, off again status? You think Michael Vick was so distraught over what is being said on a message board that he was afraid to show up at camp, or felt a need to respond? Come on, Guys!

I see these instances as merely growing pains of a very small sport where it's athletes aren't used to such wide (and growing) media attention.

And, to some degree, I see a sort of "protectionism" by some, chastising those who voice their (possibly obnoxious and misguided) opinions. Certainly some are out of hand, but, by and large, if the fans- and their opinions- disappeared, so would the sport.

And finally, it needs to tempered with decency, and yes, respect, by those who feel it is necessary to voice their opinions. I do. I find it hard to be critical of most riders who don't behave like spoiled primadonnas.

I'm sure many of you will find much to disagree with here. Feel free.

good post .... i agree completely .

what is worse than keyboard warrior kooks .... is so called professional athletes crying about being criticized by fans . it is getting beyond pathetic . these guys would not last a day in any other pro sport .

Jmar, I have enjoyed success in a variety of ccupations, as well as risking enough to fail in a few others. Currently, my wife and I make a living, and are successful enough to have weathered the storm, in Real Estate. I have supplemented that with a Consulting gig in the Hospitality Industry.

Lit up by Weimer? Hardly. I actually agree with what he is saying, regarding the B team shit. I never considered them a B team in the slightest, and felt those who did, were exercising their right to be morons.

He shouldn't let it bother him so much. It won't change.

Mostly I'm bagging on the people who feel these guys need protection from criticism and think that guys who are good at riding a dirt-bike fast, should be exempt from criticism regarding their level of commitment, their hair style, etc.

They're just like the rest of us, it's life, yada yada, get used to it.

I don't need to defend myself, as I am comfortable with the idea some people will disagree. Just clarifying.

The point I was trying to make is that people like Jake are some of the best in the world at what they do. Are you at that level in Real Estate or the consulting business? Even though you have seem to have done well my best guess is that you are not at the top of the field in either. Just imagine if some asshat got on a form that was either Real Estate or Consultant based and started calling you out as someone that should be fired, or a has been that doesn't know shit about the Real Estate market. I think it would piss you off a bit. My point isn't aimed at you because I can't remember you being one of those that are always saying stupid things like that but you can't denie that this board is full of people that do.

Another point that bothers me personally is that fact that a lot of people think it's all fun and games riding at this level. There is nothing further from the truth and it can be a miserable thing to train and ride at this level. That doesn't mean that these guys don't love the sport but it's far from being a fun week of riding as it is for some weekend warrior. I have been lucky enough to watch my son and a good number of some of today's top riders train and prep for racing at this level and I can assure you that it ain't no trail ride. You should be around some of these guys after a weekend of things not going so well. It can be very demoralizing to work so hard and have a bad weekend.

Nothing personal here and you seem to always be much more respectful of the riders than others on this board.

Just my opinion and I hope it came across with respect.

I think it is only small percentage of posters that give forums a bad name.

But hey it's easy judge someone when it is not you.

There are some kooks for sure. Some of you guys post stuff that's really awesome. And some? Well, let's just say that there's also stuff that's less than awesome.

It's funny, there are a couple posters here who are sort of undercover, and try to steer you guys back to what's really going on with some very accurate info. Occasionally I try and point them out by suggesting that you might want to listen to them. Often they get overrun by posters who are spreading nonsense, nonstop.

You definitely need to pick and choose who you listen to.

Libel thing: You misinterpreted my comment, which is understandably a hard thing to admit after you went to the trouble of creating a thread about it. People corrected you even before I made an appearance. Then you were just reduced to projecting your backpedaling onto me. A blunder on your part, but we can't win them all.

Well, some of us can't.Cool

I get what you're saying jmar, I just disagree.

We are all open to criticism from asshats that don't know anything about the business that we conduct on a daily basis. Do we need protection from that, or are we big boys and girls now? It's a tough world out there.

I'm well aware that it's a tough game. I've been involved with mx for a very long time, and have known and associated with some very talented riders both on the Am and Professional levels from yesterday and today. I have respect for them, but in no way think that they should be coddled or shielded from the real world.

As I said, I agree with Weimer calling out the people comparing the team to a second string "B team". I was merely saying, "Get used to it, you're not exempt". And I must stress that the people who really have it wrong, in my opinion, are the people who share your opinion. No crime, no foul. There you go.

Whining or complaining about who said what about you, and how much you don't like it is pointless and goes on in every other part of life, any other occupation, any other sport. I don't know how you can realistically expect MX to be any different.

Its funny how all the top guys read this stuff, but no one posts. And they refer to the all the loon's rhetoric as "everyone is saying this..." When it's really maybe just a handful.

I just can't imagine any other sport giving so much weight to a message board.
Amazing really.

People directly involved with the sport should really stay away, this is episode #2657 of "Industry" over reaction to the boards.

Jake is alot like many pro riders in my opinion. Young, Sheltered and have had so much positive support in their lives it's almost unbearable to step into the real world. MOM and Dad have restructured their lives to revolve around "Johnny mini-bike racer" Hoping that he one day becomes a pro.
Then they read a posting on the internet and their privileged little world is crushed. So, some dude called you a B team rider. Big deal. Knowing how it hurts these riders shows how emotionally weak they really are. Trey Canard, be happy you are a great rider and don't look to change the internet world with a message board ban. If the irrelevant banter/opinions really upset you, blame your parents. They indeed gave you everything....but the truth about the real world.

The USA team did well Jake. That should be good enough.

Sonny,

With all due respect you have no clue how Trey was raised. Nothing was given to him and he worked for everything that he has today. He comes from a very hard working family that has never place much value on flashy things. The young man lost his father at an early age and his mother did a great job at helping Trey get to where he is today. The Canards are good "HARD" working people and not anything like your post.

I don't know Jake all that well but from what little I have been around him and his father you are completely wrong on that one to. Jake and his dad were all work and no flash.

I know for a fact that the Canard's check this board out from time to time. That's exactly how he ended up racing in Tyler last weekend (where he donated his winnings to Justin Weeks and Kent Stephenson).

Sheltered? That's about the dumbest thing anyone has uttered around here in a long time. And given the IQ of many posts up here, that's saying something.

READ IT AGAIN.
Just another example of the high level of stupid that flows out of this place, reading comprehension failure.

I can understand when the riders get frustrated about people taking shit/stupid nonsense on these boards, but I don't know if "calling out" the fans does anything to help the situation. It sucks because this sport is still small enough where rider interaction can make these boards like no other, but there will always be an anonymous crackpot know nothing waiting to get a rise out of any rider.... and when they mention these guys in interviews or through a proxy it's giving the trolls exactly what they want.

Given that response, I'd have assumed that your post count would be a lot higher than 23.

As far as, "... I have been extremely critical of LB in the past but have never met or talked to the prick. lol"

Can you point me to the humorous part in that sentence that generated the LOL? I think I missed it.

This thread is about nationalism. IMHO

I think it was a pretty easy decision, and it makes absolutely no sense to me that you’re sending your people over to a foreign country to represent you, and you’re going to sit on message boards and talk trash. I obviously don’t understand it. At least stand behind your guys.
Say what you must Nerd. I never heard anyone not support the team, just some people actually believed that Italy or Australia may win, and were honest enough to say it . I get the feeling we should post what the riders what to hear, instead of the truth. And no, I have it pegged. IMHO

You two seem to be disagreeing over very little, since both of your original posts have plenty of valid points.

Motocross is a HARD sport requiring fitness, skill and bravery in large doses. All quick riders have that in spades. The extra thing that racers all need is confidence and that can come and go very quickly. So, unless the idiots on here who belittled the team actually want to damage future efforts, they should think a little harder before posting.

READ IT AGAIN.
It's just more proof that people read into posts what they want and don't read what's actually written

Can you point me to the humorous part in that sentence that generated the LOL? I think I missed it.

Do you even read what you post or are you just trying to side step your post that states that Jake and Trey have been sheltered all their lives and know nothing about the real world. I don't think Steve was talking about the so called "B Team" deal or the lack of support for the team we sent to the MXdN. I am sure he is refering to your personal opinion of Jake, Trey and their parents which took up almost your entire post.

Talk about stepping into the real world. You’re sitting behind a computer, identity unknown, making personal statements about people you know nothing about.

That is pretty ironic, isn't it!

Post a reply to: Jake Weimer talking about key board warriors.
