I would think it's a "yes".

However, Brian is a smart business man, I doubt he'll be having Haiden sign anything for awhile until they see just how much his value goes up.

I was under the belief his contract with star was basically an audition ride. At this point though, that kid better be locked up. Stay with Star at least through 250’s

I remember reading somewhere that Bennick's ride with Star was basically an audition for the team, and with the way he's been riding in Futures, I'd think they would want to lock him up as well.

i see a similar future to webb. stay with star all through 250's. head into the the big bikes with star and see how the rest of the future holds up.

star yamaha also have history with deegan back when deegan sponsored the team.. so i don't see them leaving any time soon.

At Daytona on TV, you could hear the crowd roaring for Deegan when he came by.. louder than for anyone else on the track including the leaders.

I was there and didnt really notice it. The loudest I think things got was when Tomac passed Webb in the 450 race.

Deegan definitely has a lot of fans but I didnt seem to notice significant noise for him as he came by. Maybe more so for the rider intros.

This.

If you’ve already got him for his initial 2 pro years? You get, at the very least, the 1st Right of Refusal on his next contract/offers.

deegan is the real deal.....

reminds me more of the old school rookie method......respect the leaders (but not too much), log laps n learn, ride within yourself and avoid any major lawn darting ....just keep grinding.........

a few of the more recent year SENSATIONS?? in the 250's should take note........

Better question is why wouldn’t you sign him long term?  Because if you don’t someone else will.  He’s had good results so far, has (mostly) kept it on 2 wheels and seems to be riding smart.  Put aside whatever you think of his social media presence and it’s a no-brainer based on race results.

Think of it from Star’s perspective. Tack on 2 years now and maybe save yourself a million down the road. If they wait, they may have to complete with other brands and then the price is driven up.

I get it from both sides, but I want these riders to make as much money as possible for the short time they have in this sport.

The safe option would be to sign a long term extension now at X amount of money, or bet on yourself and try to put in the best results possible.

The second option could also backfire. Put in lack luster results, injuries, and the teams could lower their offers.

He's young and just starting out his pro career, so IMO, betting on option two is a wise move to make.

I still think it’s funny that people are surprised the kid has a ton of talent/speed. I guess they didn’t watch Loretta’s for the past several years.

Especially when it comes to “outdoors”..

The Canadian Moto-scene is as “core” as it gets.

A person would be wise to respect that fact.

Don't think his social media side is a selling point as some teams didn't like the idea of filming and swayed some decisions.

I knew Colten when he was 14. I seen all the racers since. Its a family atmosphere but second class the American AMA. Ive raced them all. Badlands, rosebud, washougal. RedBud is the best. You cater to the clan because they except you. Some folks in history be called a trader mate 🤣

My friend, make sure you NEVER talk shit about someone being home-schooled, ok? Laughing

And..if you think I’m some kind of traitor for loving some of the best outdoor motocross in North America? Fine, I’ll take that as a compliment.

From British Columbia to Nova Scotia…and Gopher Dunes & Sand Del Lee in the middle…real motocross lives in Canada just as much as it does here.

What does my nationality have to do with anything?

I suppose you're so core the series needs to get rid of everyone that wasn't born in the US. So let's get rid of Roczen, Musquin, Ferrandis, Noren, Lawrence brothers, Vialle, Wilson, Anstie, Shimoda, Natzke, Farres, Walsh, Lopes, Munoz, Thury, etc.

Honda is the only 250 program that ain't grinding an axe at the moment IMO. These 250 riders are all over the place except for the Lawrence brothers. Deegan has been pretty consistent so that's some hope for Star yamaha. Hard to root for most these dudes though when they're checkers or wreckers.

Especially because his presence alone is worth so much to teams/sponsors because of his following.

He was with Star at Budds Creek this summer. The line to get his autograph in the pits was huge

If I were a team manager yes. But if I were Haiden I'd prioritize short-term flexibility to choose my bike and program and go after lucrative endorsement deals.

You never know. But he's in a position financially that he can take that risk, along with the added benefit of doing exactly what he wants program-wise. I'd do maximum one year contracts for now.

When he got the Star ride… “It’s only cause of YouTube” was a fairly common theme around here.

Who knew that a bunch of YouTube followers could get you a podium at Daytona… 🤣
