Jettson Donuts at the Supercross races,  But the privateers can’t sell their r-shirts? (Privateers need the money more then Jett)

Its a business selling a product, not a rider selling merch.

I agree its not fair on other riders, but its a smart move on his (agent?) part.

If the privateers setup an LLC, would it be ok then?

It costs money to make money. Privateers have the same opportunity to team up with Feld but most don't sling enough product for it to be to be worth the investment. I can't go to the local mall and set up my own kiosk for free and sell stuff.

It's not a matter of fairness as any one of these guys could do the same. Not that I agree with the rules Feld has in place but nobody is receiving special treatment in this scenario.

As Johnny Ringo mentioned they’re basically setting up as a vendor and paying a free with profit share to Feld. They do it for his donuts and I’d it for merch at multiple rounds of outdoors last year.

Yep.  Lucas explained it all on Pulp a few weeks ago.  They presented the idea to Feld and made a deal.  Any rider could present similar opportunities and they may or may not do it.  Strongest wins and he pulls tons of fans.

That said, I cannot understand why teams and riders cannot sell merchandise in the pits.  The t-shirt stands would still do just fine with all the fans that only come for the night show which is most fans anyway.  Even of Feld took a cut, it would be cool as a fan to have more than a few options of ugly shirts etc like we have now.

Your 100% correct but I bet you could get away with your mall

kiosk for at least a couple days/ weeks 😂

Why can't I take a hotdog cart into the stadium and sell hotdogs?

You need to apply to get a vendor's stall. Pay the fees feld and the stadiums ask and sell your shit.

Ppl act like jett gets special permission. Nah. They pay there way. Just like others who set up vendors stalls. Alpinestar, fly, fox, and dbk have also.

But I do think feld and mx sports should set up 2 stalls for privateers to sell from. Maybe allow 4-5 riders a stall, $100 each and let them sell 4-5 different items. They should help them and make it simple for them. Coz selling shit out the back of a van isn't the way forward.

While I do agree that privateers should be able to sell merch at the races, I believe it should be done in a professional manor. What that truly looks like, I dunno? Maybe dedicated vendor trailer for privateers? Maybe specified booths for privateer merch sales only? I think it should be done in conjunction with the promoter. It’s their event, the riders are there as attendees to race. Selling merch out of the back of vans swap meet style isn’t the most professional look. Probably not a popular opinion but trying to look at it from every point of view. I have never heard, not to say it has never happened, a privateer rider going to the promoter asking to sell their merch in the licensed vending areas.

A couple of guys do a bitchen job at advertising drops on social media to drive merch sales. I know those guys sell out most of the drops every time they do them. The hardcore fans of these riders will go to their site and purchase.

At the end of the day, I believe everyone (riders and teams) should have the opportunity to sell their merch at the events. It would be great especially for privateers to generate extra revenue, and great for fans to be able to buy merch to support their favorite rider on a whim. It just needs to look professional and benefit all parties involved if done at the races.

When you’re leading the west coast series, you can sell all the donuts you want.

Believe his agent explained it on Pulp

Feld gets a cut and Jet and his camp take all the financial risk.

Pretty simple, if a privateer came to feld and said If you let me sell my Lobsters on a stick and I can guarantee you 500K, they would let them do it.

For a privateer, the cost for a booth from Feld wouldn't be worth it - even teaming up with other privateers. It would make more sense to go with the one-time expense of having a banner printed with your web address and sponsors' logos, so people can go buy your merch and no one gets a cut except you.

The logistics of selling T-shirts out of a sprinter van with 2 bikes, an easy-up, tools, gear, spare tires, fuel and other misc crap would be daunting. Add on top of that giving a percentage to Feld... Nope not worth the headache, especially when you could funnel people to a website to buy your merch.

You can buy donuts anywhere. What they are selling for $20/box is Jettson.

I had occasion to visit a greasy diner in Escondido last Tuesday…. Anyway, I ordered a burger and, with my view of the kitchen, was able to see the cook grab some uncooked meat- and slap it into his armpit to form a patty, and throw it on the grill. Horrified, I called for the manager to complain, to which she responded “that’s nothing, honey, you should see how he makes the donuts!”         Chachacha….73252732-38D7-4DB9-9415-65C938D84518

Not only is he paying for the privilege of selling his donuts, but Feld would be stupid not to allow it.

As of right now Jett Lawrence is one of Felds biggest assets. Yes, he is an asset. He is going to earn that company so much money over the next 5-10 years it isn't even funny. If they allowed him to sell for free they would be just investing in their own company. The bigger and more popular Jett gets the more valuable Feld Entertainment and Supercross is. The thing people who bitch about Jett on broadcasts and Jett everywhere fail to understand is that guys like him are who is going to grow the sport. That in turn will end up putting more money in every rider's pocket. Think of the Tiger Woods effect and what he did for the game of golf.

Slight tangent: What are the chances that Jett is actually sitting on a gold mine with those donuts and 30 years from now nobody knows Jettson used to race dirty bikes just like nobody knows the Tim Horton used to play in the NHL.

I’ve seen the prototype of the privateer merch trailer. Looks promising.

Im just spit ballin here.... but I would buy a shirt that supports all the current Privateers for each season. Make it a $100 for one shirt (Designed by a quality PROVEN artist) and then divide the payout by the finishing order of all of them. Maybe the top 30 privateers.

Kind of like Mathis was doing but add a few merch items to get these guys some bread.

After attending Dallas and Houston and walking the pits, Deegan is quickly taking over as the most valuable asset for Feld; insane to see his pits and how many young kids are just there to see him.

The kid has 1.24 million YouTube subs and gets a couple hundred thousand views on weekly videos. If he can win races, he is going to be the bigger pull of the elusive “new fan” than anyone else out there.

Ask the riders and they will tell you different.  I think a centralized option would be good or displays that require Feld approval etc would work just fine.

You guys are both right, I was going to mention Deegan but I didn't want to start a shitstorm.

It is not a stretch to say that the future of the sport rides on both of their shoulders.

Thank you, but I'll stick to Marys donuts.  If you're a San Diego resident (birthplace of many of the greatest mx racers) and like donuts, you know about Marys.

Old building (they've since moved into two newer locations).

Yes, because they have never attempted to do it. It's difficult, and the juice is not worth the squeeze. I was on the road in the 90's and had to manage giveaway swag in a box van and it was a pain.

I agree that a combined trailer with say the top ten privateers' swag would be cool and probably the most effective way to do it. Also give them something to fight for.
