Someone must have tipped him off. That or he was just about to jump the gate, and got incredibly lucky. I don't even think Mike Alessi could have beat him to turn one with a jump like that.

Look at the video. He rolls and the gate drops. Spectacular anticipation.

Ya I noticed that also when I watched the video. I had to watch it 3 times and you can see him roll it and timed it perfect like no other...

I wonder if the 400 or whatever it is he is riding provides less wheel spin making it easier grab a hand full.

I wonder if he knew when the gate would drop?

That almost looked like the jumps we used to get back in the day when the gate fell the other direction and you knew how to jump it. That was my specialy but when we had forward falling gates and you could watch the starter pull the pin. He showed in the second moto that lightning only strikes once though.

I don't think that start had anything to do w/the 390cc he's riding. It was pure gate timing. In the GPs he strugled big time w/starts all year. Even having the pole he usualy came out of the 1st turm between 10th and 15th..

If you watch the whole of the holeshot then you'll see that all of the 450's have caught him up by the time he gets to the first corner.

Very true.. The only reason he came out of the 1st turn in 1st place was because he railed the outside of turn one. TC would of been a hell of a flat track racer. The guy rails corners w/out burms better then anyone I've ever seen.

Traction ? Reaction ? Premonition ?

This is THE most amazing jump I've seen. I dug up this old thread as it still amazes me.
