Reed has a pop at Stewart - Let the mind games begin!

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 3:32am
Taken from MXlarge, Reed is asked about JS and U.S Nations team:

''I don’t really care about James Stewart, he was asked to come to this race and he didn’t come, I think he has let his country down''

Sets the SX season up nicely..

Reed is right! 23 years ago, riders fought over being able to go.

I like Chad, but I would think by now he would know that that stuff would only motivate his competition to train, practice and race harder. IMO

Can't help thinking some of this banter between the two of them is just a bit of a PR stunt.

Exactly! The fastest guy wouldnt ride for his own country and support the flag! It should be an honor to compete at that event.

James IS letting his country down by not being there, that's an undisputable fact.

all right there guys enough.

Lets acknowledge then ignore the the point that James didnt feel he deserved to go because he didnt ride the nationals . Valid point , you choose to see it how you want

Fact time: James raced to 24-0 last season developing his kawi the whole season and raced that bike in the des nations . He still had a hell of a time trying to race Seb Pourcel after competing all year summer long and riding a DEVELOPED bike.

He didn't test/ develope his yamaha for the outdoors at all. So he would have to show up with no races on this bike and carry the pressure and the flag of the USA . Regardless that all you "EXPERTS" know he would and could w he could win on a Razor Scooter , athletes like to go in knowing they will bring there best , its an internal confidence thing , yes riders are insecure too... weird right .

Again dont bring up the racing the national thing, he signed with the team he felt put him in the best position , because he felt he had the best chance at winning a SX title , not ideal for him or his fans , but he put himself on the best team with the best chance of winning ... and he did.

All you haters are beating a dead horse, let the dude be...you don't pay his bills and havent't lived a day in his boots. Most were impressed in the beginning of the outdoors when he had the respect for his fellow racers to say that he would not take the spot if it hadn't been earned i.e. if he hadn't raced a national. The outdoor season was exciting in part because he chose not to race (new winners and a sufficient amount of parity). Team USA will have to work for this one but c'mon fellas - have faith in the dudes we sent over there, I know I do!!

It is definitely a let down. I can understand taking the summer off and skipping the nationals, but without him our guys can't have a bad moto to win this thing. I wonder if Phelps would ever turn down an offer to go to the olympics? I think not!

He has lost a lot of fans and tons of respect. It won't make any difference to him until he starts to loose sponsors and money which won't be long.

I'm not usually one to say athletes should do this or that.......but basketball is an interesting example here.

Guys like Lebron James, D Wade, and Kobe Bryant all went to represent the USA at the Olympics last summer. They had NOTHING to gain and everything to lose. These are guys making salaries that make James Stewarts look like loose couch change.

Lebron said that winning a gold medal for his country meant so much that he couldn't imagine an NBA title meaning more. ...and if you follow babsketball you know how bad that guy wants a title.

This is something that in the future James may have to think about in terms of when he is 45 years old and his career has long been over is he going to look back and wish he had taken the torch from Carmichael and drove his sport in his home country to a great sense of national pride?

Many times a guys time in the spot light is short lived and usually shorter than he envisioned it being.

Sorry for the long post, but this is something I have been thinking about all summer with this JS not riding the nationals/ Des Nations.

Why do some of you guys think JS not racing made the outdoors more exciting? What's exciting to me about the nationals is seeing the best in the world race. Without the best in the world going outdoors for the last 30+ years the sport would of never grown to what it is today. If you think the only thing about mx that's exciting is guys dicing for the win then head down to your local track and check out the 250 beg races. We all line the fences for those motos every week. The 1st turn of the 250 beg races is the most exciting 3 seconds in mx. I never thought it was boring watching RC dominate nor did I think it was boring watching JS smoke everyone. I think it's amazing not boring watching a master at work whether he's 1 or 45 sec ahead. I'm praying we see RV,CR,RD,MA,JG,CP and James Stewart on the line at Glen Helen next year.

Guys just let it go ......goddam what a ridiculous thing to say "Im not buying this or that that has to do with James" you sound like a bunch of little kids!

IF HE DID IN FACT GO THERE WOULD BE A 25 PAGE PLUS HATE THREAD GOING ON COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO GO BECAUSE HE DIDN'T RACE THE NATS AND SOME OTHER RIDER DESERVED HIS SPOT

It never changes ....we get it you don't like James .....GuyB please send this thread to the dumbegon before it really gets out of hand

I guess he gets ZERO credit for going the years that he WAS prepared.

How did Chad do at the MXDN when he did not ride the Outdoors for 2 years?

You guys are Awesome.

You make a valid point. You could say it as Lebron got hurt halfway through the season and they still asked him to play in the Olympics. Whereas James tries being a hero and making more people like him. Instead, he should've just gone to Italy and smoked everyone. And he could've done it with the testing, it's not like he owns a motocross track or California has like a bagillion. It's due to the fact that he wasn't getting paid and Sam Manuel wouldn't pay for his shit to get over there. He's just a cheap prick that shou;d've gone. In a way you're fighting for your country. Shit, I would take a one-hundred thousand dollar loan out if i could go over there and race. He needs to work at McDonalds for a month to really appreciate what he has.

So, what you're saying is that you don't care if he supports the country? So, that could mean that you don't care if military personel don't care about their country while fighting for it?
